Venture capital in complicated markets The buffeting the technology sector has received has forced a serious reevaluation of venture capital community positions. M&A analyst Melissa Incera digs into the current situation with host Eric Hanselman and points at that there are some bright spots in all of the gloom. While portfolio valuations are down, expectations for valuations are also lower. That presents possibilities for both VC’s and corporate acquirers, but cash flowing into funds is more selective. The green shoots of spring?
Application Networking Networking has long been the static plumbing that just made connectivity happen, but that’s changing rapidly to address the demands of modern enterprise applications. Interconnect has to happen at higher levels of abstraction and with greater levels of automation to get to the scale required. Fears of robots gone wild in the network should be shelved in favor of managed API’s and automation platforms. There are still a lot of moving parts, but the transformation of a lagging field is underway.

TikTok Organic Can Lead Product Innovation Is it possible to find a gap in the market and find your own creative ways to authentically fill it? What are some ways to leverage social media interaction in ways that really build loyal, longterm relationships with your customers? Listen in to hear Adam Simone share the journey Leaf Shave has been on and where they’re headed next! “And then Doja Cat Shaved Her Eyebrows”{00:05:18} When two engineers get together and are grumpy about a hole in the market, you get a pretty cool little piece of machinery that is safe to put on your skin and shave with{00:11:18} Adam loves to engage with customers on social, and after customers asked and asked for a specific product to be developed by Leaf, they finally were able to deliver and launched it recently{00:17:05} It’s easy to use gimmicks to amp up the metrics of an ad or a technique, but it’s important to look at what actually worked and why it did to make sure we don’t get stuck using those gimmicks{00:22:07} “Stop chasing the views, stop chasing virality, and just focus on educating. And that has been my recipe,” because that is what drives noticeable impact{00:26:19} When you do something differently, you naturally have to explain and educate your audience, which is a point that is often overlooked{00:30:36} Why Adam has basically shaved every part of his body and how that has helped the company is so many ways{00:36:35} Adam shares about two interesting moments, one with Mr Beast and another with Doja Cat’s eyebrows, and which one actually drove more impact to their business{00:40:55} Adam and his team have big plans for more incredible innovation-driven products that will be branching out and launching in the near future (and beyond)Associated Links:Find out more about The Visions Summit at RICE 2023 and make plans to meet us there!Learn more about Adam Simone and Leaf Shave.Have you checked out our YouTube channel yet?Get your copy of Archetypes, our newly published 240-page journal. Leveling the Playing Field for U.S. Small Businesses What do you do when there is an area in public affairs with either fast change or major conflict happening? You send in the sophisticated research team Mark Drapeau leads and find out what is going on and why. Listen in now to our conversation with Mark as he shares insights from years of research and also more about their newest report called Maximum Impact: How Digital Ads Level the Playing Field for U.S. Small Businesses!Data, Digital, and Disruption{00:05:45} “We want people to be armed with the best data points to tell a great narrative.” – Mark Drapeau{00:11:38} Every single thing could be seen as a threat or an opportunity depending on where you sit and how you react to it.{00:17:13} How does sports gambling and gaming effect other areas of the economy and why would that trade off be interesting and necessary piece of data to look into?{00:27:18} “Digital tools are a force multiplier for businesses trying to sell.” – Mark Drapeau{00:36:35}  Across all small-medium sized businesses, about 67% of the overall ad budget is digital and that includes social media, video search, and other kinds of digital advertising. For small businesses with less than ten employees, it's 74%.{00:41:39} “We write in a very broad way and don't go too deep on anything. And then we frequently kind of follow up with shorter in-depth pieces that dive deeper into something that we're very interested in.” – Mark Drapeau{00:36:35} There are many interesting data points through the years from the studies RXN and DCI have conducted, and a very common thread they’ve noticed is that it is very difficult to separate the person from the business when it comes to decision making.Associated Links:Find out more about The Visions Summit at RICE 2023 and make plans to meet us there!Read Mark’s Op-Ed on  Why Are Lawmakers Attacking Digital Ads?Check out the new report from DCI Maximum Impact: How Digital Ads Level the Playing Field for U.S. Small BusinessesLearn more about Mark Drapeau, RXN Group, and Data Catalyst InstituteHave you checked out our YouTube channel yet?Get your copy of Archetypes, our newly published 240-page journal. Blended Learning in Schools – A Universal Design Approach with Joanne Banks Inclusive education as a concept is elusive. No one definition exists, but instead much diversity in how we conceive and understand it. Ireland, like most countries, has an increasingly diverse student population where the ‘one size fits all’ curriculum cannot possibly work for everyone. By understanding student variability and identifying the barriers to learning as students navigate the education system, we can inform ways to create more inclusive learning environments for all.

We are joined by Dr Joanne Banks, who discusses the history of special education in Ireland and shares highlights of the Blended Learning in Schools: A Universal Design Approach (Erasmus+ UDL-BOE project).

ChatGPT and AI in the Classroom w/ Hazel Farrell and Pete Windle Hazel Farrell and Pete Windle are academics at SETU who have been playing with ChatGPT (and other AI tools) to see how they can be used in the classroom to assist teaching and learning. They both take an open approach towards the technologies, rather than shutting down conversation. They sat down with Rob O'Connor to talk about the potential of these technologies to be a useful tool in education. Pete is a lecturer in Computing, whereas Hazel is a lecturer in Music – so there is a cross-disciplinary aspect to the discussion. The podcast doesn't lead to many answers for academics or students who may be struggling with AI, but it does spark some interested questions and dialogues. This is definitely a topic we'll be discussing again.
During the podcast, Hazel recommends following Mushtaq Bilal on Twitter @MushtaqBilalPhD for interesting threads on ChatGPT. Pete recommends the ChatGPT Insights Facebook group.

You can follow Hazel on Twitter @renshigirl. Pete's profile on LinkedIn can be found here. Rob O'Connor is on Twitter @roboconnor_irl or on Mastodon http://mastodon.ie/@roboconnor. Follow the podcast on Twitter at @machine_podcast

As chief of the National Security Agency’s Cybersecurity Collaboration Center, she’s responsible for bringing highly sensitive threat information out from behind the walls of Fort Meade and onto the desks of defense industry leaders who can use it. In the latest episode of WE’RE IN!, Morgan shares how she helped build the CCC into a vital public-private conduit for cyber intelligence, rewriting existing NSA operating models along the way.“We knew that it was important to be able to have this type of direct engagement, because we knew the only way to really counter a nation-state actor is to get ahead of it,” Adamski said of the CCC’s “fast and furious” history. ——–Tune in to hear Adamski’s thoughts on: * Strategies for getting more women involved in the cybersecurity field * The Biden administration’s new National Cybersecurity Strategy* The importance of being part of something bigger than yourself

Quentin Saleur & Matthew James: OTT Risk: Business Interruption for the sharing economy (237) The consequences of non-damage business interruption (NDBI), when events like pandemics don't cause physical damage to a business but do result in significant drops in revenue, have been particularly clear since 2020. OTT Risk, an MGA founded during the Covid-19 pandemic, is developing new approaches to underwriting non-damage business interruption insurance. It's now partnered with Apollo ibott Syndicate 1971, at Lloyd's, to offer revenue protection to the users of digital economy platforms.

Examples of how small businesses and gig workers could be affected by future NDBI events
How digital economy platforms could offer revenue protection to their users
The data sources you need to underwrite NDBI insurance
OTT Risk's experience in the Lloyd's Lab

Ney Corsino, Nanolumens The 16:9 PODCAST IS SPONSORED BY SCREENFEED – DIGITAL SIGNAGE CONTENT
Nanolumens was an early player in the LED display space – known mainly in its first few years for innovative  display products that were super-light, thin and flexible … at a time when just about everything else on the market was heavy, thick and solid.
The Atlanta-based company was still pretty much known for that kind of product when Ney Corsino was hired on as CEO, at the start of 2020. Experienced as a business transformation and turnaround guy, Corsino has evolved Nanolumens from a company with an interesting niche product to one that has a full range of display options – from conventional video wall set-ups and all-in-ones to transparent mesh displays and the thin, flexible units that first gained attention.
Nanolumens has also got more focused on some key vertical markets – arguably the biggest ones being airports and public spaces. Several new air terminals that have been built or renovated in the last couple of years have featured Nanolumens product in its signature public art, messaging and experiential installations.
Corsino and I chatted about how he has also put in the hours with his team to clarify how it goes to market, and how it specifically works with integrators and solutions providers.

TRANSCRIPT
Ney, thank you for joining me. You joined the company from Barco, so you would've already been well-versed in LED displays. What attracted you to Nanolumens?
Ney Corsino: Thanks for having me. Yes, I came from Barco before Barco, and before that, I was at Phillips, Philips Electronics, a European company, and Barco, also a European company, and now at Nanolumens, a US-based company. But to be honest with you, at Barco we paid little attention to LEDs. We have a deep engineering base in projection there and we venture with click share.
LEDs have been up and down at Barco and at Nanolumens, all we do is LED, so we are pretty much focused here.
Because you knew the business, was there something in particular that attracted you to Nanolumens? Because they're relatively small and US-focused as opposed to a big global entity like Barco. What was your perspective on all that? Why join them?
Ney Corsino: I think for good or bad, I developed my career in improving businesses, transforming and improving turnaround, and I felt that the impact I could continue to do would be more valuable in companies like Nanolumens. So I think it was a good encounter between a company that needed this kind of action and someone that had experience in doing this at a corporate level in many different business units. So now I could come, and exercise all I have learned all by myself and I'm very glad I did that.
When I first got to know Nanolumens, let's say 10 years ago, their calling card, so to speak, was these flexible, almost rug-like displays with removable modules, they called them nixels at the time, and I think they still do.
It was very unique on the market at that point, and those were the early days anyways for LED displays. I wouldn't say they're not still unique, but I don't get the sense that's the kind of the main growth driver for Nanolumens these days.
Ney Corsino: The company has run for about 17 years. It has been one of the pioneers in the LED display market, has been involved in many innovations, and has almost a hundred IPs, but most notably, like you just said, it is the invention of the flex module, which is still called nixel where you can basically do smooth curve wall. So we hold IPs on that. But since then, it has evolved quite a bit especially in the last three years, we continue to do of course very well on the curve. But we have re-engineered and extended the portfolio for cabinet-based modular units, also mesh, all in one. So we now have a very extensive portfolio.
Now if you ask about the sales, it's almost half of it. It is still customized, which includes the curved modules, and the other half is more on the standard flat solution.
Why do you think it's played out that way?
Ney Corsino: I believe that the brand commands that customization aspect, the DNA of creativity, wow effect, doing things that are let's say complex and difficult, but we engineer to make it possible. So I think that's the inheritance of the brand and continues

Brad Koerner is a Harvard-trained architect who has spent decades looking at how technology affects and defines built environments. He has a specific interest in technologies like lighting and digital displays.
An American based now in beautiful Amsterdam, Koerner works with both end-users and technology companies. By his own admission, he's obsessed by the question of how digital and interactive technologies are starting to disrupt centuries-old thinking about architectural design.
We met recently at Integrated Systems Europe, where he did a well-received talk on his ideas and observations. He later sent me the presentation deck, and it was pretty clear I needed to get him on this podcast.
In our chat, we get into a whole bunch of things – but focus quite a bit on the terms immersive and experiential … what they mean and how they get applied.

TRANSCRIPT
Brad, thank you for joining me from Amsterdam. Can you give me a background on what you do and what Koerner Design is all about?
Brad Koerner: Yeah, thanks, Dave, for having me. It's really an honor. So Koerner Design is my own design firm, and I focus on the future of the built environment, iSPAN, architectural lighting, digital signage, and circular economy product design.
What would be a typical engagement? If there is such a thing as typical.
Brad Koerner: A typical engagement for me is working with lighting design companies to create sustainable products. I've been engaged with a few digital signage and marketing firms looking at trends in digital media. I'm also working with DC Power folks, thinking about sort of infrastructure-level improvements that help lighting and digital signage.
So a company would come to you saying, we are thinking about doing this, but we don't have our heads wrapped around how it would all come together?
Brad Koerner: Yeah I speak a lot. I talk about the future of the built environment through a variety of different channels, and a lot of people find inspiration in the pieces that I do. For example, I just spoke at Integrated Systems Europe on immersive digital environments, and an earlier presentation I gave was called “Every surface is a screen, now what?”
The year before that I presented at Integrated Systems Europe, also on DC Power Systems. These videos go out there and they get people really inspired. They start to see these industries in new ways. They look at their problems with a fresh mind, and they really want to engage them in an innovation process, right? A proper design-driven innovation process. So I help them do a future envisioning session: what are the trends, what are the options, what do they have? Then we turn that into a sort of proper wishlist of product concepts or new business concepts, and then we drive it into the roadmap where it's scoped and prioritized, and they focus on that.
I also then take it all the way out and help 'em with product marketing and marketing communications for those new launches.
So they would come to you because you're not selling them anything other than your insight and expertise as opposed to trying to angle them toward how they're gonna use a fine-pitch LED wall?
Brad Koerner: Correct. I'm agnostic when it comes to all the technologies and equipment.
You talk in your presentations a lot about immersive digital experiences and I'm very curious about how you define immersive because I just wrote the other day about a company that described a billboard along a roadway as immersive, and I thought, boy, that's really stretching to call that immersive, but maybe I'm wrong.
Brad Koerner: I think it's helpful for your audience to understand by background. I'm an architect. I have two degrees in architecture, and when I was young, I always wanted to be a Disney Imagineer as a kid, and that's what drove me into architecture, and then as a side interest, I took up theater lighting and stage set design.
So I really think of immersive digital experiences from that sort of the architectural point of view where you are in physical places, you are surrounded by six surfaces and in today's world, all of those can become digital, they can become luminous, they can become a portal to the internet or to the digital world in

Wes Nicol, Videri The 16:9 PODCAST IS SPONSORED BY SCREENFEED – DIGITAL SIGNAGE CONTENT
If you've spent any time in bars and pubs – not me, but I've been told – there have always been signs of walls promoting beverage brands. They were neon, or backlit plastic, and they were there to perhaps be the last thing someone sees before a server asks, "What'll you have?"
Imagine if you could do that instead with digital displays that were changeable and had the kinds of motion graphics or video that drew eyeballs and influenced decisions.
That's what a New York-based company called Videri offers up. Very quietly, guided by a whale client it can't talk about publicly, Videri has almost 100,000 networked displays operating around the globe – driving brand awareness and delivering a consistent 30% sales lift, month to month, on promoted products. That means an ROI on the investment for the brands who put them in that's measured in months, not years.
The big reasons why it works? It's a turnkey solution based on super-thin, super-light custom-manufactured all-in-one flat panels that a beverage brand's field staffers can install and activate in a matter of minutes. If they can hang a picture on a wall, they can put these in.
I had a great chat with Wes Nicol, who came on as CEO about a year ago and is busily bringing Videri out of a somewhat stealthy period, and making some broader marketplace noise.

TRANSCRIPT
Wes, thank you for joining me. Can you give me the rundown on what Videri is all about?
Wes Nicol: Hey, Dave, thanks for having me. I am excited to be on the podcast. I've been a longtime listener, first-time interviewee. But yeah, the history of Videri, it's been around for about ten years, in 2013, we started with digital out-of-home, ruggedized products working with Outfront, which was CBS Outdoor at the time, and then subsequent to that, maybe a few years later, developed a series of thinner indoor displays, Videri Canvas that we built hand in hand actually with one of our large customers And then continue to expand that globally.
We're typically more of a white-label shop. You don't really hear much about vi I think when we talked before you mentioned, “I have never heard of you guys.” That was probably on purpose. We can talk about that later but we have a complete end-to-end solution: we build hardware, CMS & device management software, and I’m happy to get into the details.
I had heard vaguely of you in the past, I think one of the jobs that Videri was doing, you mentioned Outfront was on the MTA in New York?
Wes Nicol: Yeah, exactly. So anything that you see on the MTA is our product.
Oh, okay. Now, do you still do that sort of work, or was the move to these thin canvas displays something of a pivot for the company?
Wes Nicol: We're still doing that. We are still actively deploying right now at the MTA, and there's gonna be a refresh cycle that we're hoping to participate in. But I think strategically we want to become more of a software company and there's a lot of green space in the indoor product. As you know obviously in the industry, there's a lot of opportunity there. So that's kinda where we're focusing most of our efforts right now.
You have been very quiet. I would say almost stealthy, but in the past year, you started to make some noise in the market, right?
Wes Nicol: Yeah I'm new to the company, so I joined about a year ago…
So you're the noisy guy?
Wes Nicol: Exactly, and I'm Canadian. So typically we're pretty humble folks, but it's funny. We were at the ISE show. I think we saw you there at your event, at the actual show itself, people are saying, “Hey, we've been trying to find you guys like. We've seen this product somewhere, we just didn't know who made it”, and there's nothing written on the actual display that actually says, Videri on it. You have to kinda pull it off the wall, look at some serial numbers and do some Googling to figure it out.
And that's been great because some of our partners love that. They love the fact they got something really special and unique, and we're going to continue to do that kinda white-label approach. But when you see your list of the top display manufacturers in digital signage, we're nowhere near where I think we should be based on deployments, and that's cause we're

Release The Bard! Improvements to Content Organization in Google Docs, and Add/Remove Encryption Bring on the Bard! Not only did Google announce Google Bard, their answer to ChatGPT, they gave some of us access, and Steve and I were lucky enough to be among those who did. Now, that being said, a couple of things to note. It does NOT currently work with Google Workspace accounts, so I had to dig into my ancient original gmail account from high school to sign up. I asked my Google Assistant what it thought of Google Bard and it immediately had a panic attack switching screens and trying to show me different youtube videos until it got stuck on a black screen. Introducing Come Along for the Ride Podcast From Gentle Horse Trainers to Complimentary Horse Therapists, from people working in Equine Assisted Therapy to Entrepreneurs of the horse industry, we are here to go deep with extraordinary horse people who live their lives making the world a better place for horses. Our weekly interviews will entertain and engage as well as educate horse owners who are always learning and want to know more about these incredible creatures.
Kirsty Hagger Willowvale Spanish Mustangs In our very first conversation here at Come Along for the Ride you will hear from Kirsty Hagger of Willowvale Spanish Mustangs who decided that she would be the first ever person, and so far, the only person ever, to import this critically endangered breed to the southern hemisphere. This is not only an incredible story about a woman who brought the first ever Spanish Mustang horses to Australia and is thus far still the only breeder here. It is also a story of transition from traditional dominant methods of horse training, to natural horsemanship, then to a very gentle way of training and being with horses where relationship and choice are paramount.I have 4 horses and when I asked the photographer to come and take photos for the cover of this podcast I thought that Gypsy’s mother, Kiowa would be the cover shot as she is so photogenic.Little did I know that Gypsy had other plans. She brought herself into position for the photo and proceeded to stare straight into the camera and gave us the shot we were after! It seems she had her own plans to get her face and the Spanish mustang breed known. So it seemed only fitting that the first ever podcast would be about this beautiful breed and Kirsty who was the first person to bring them to our shores.Kirsty speaks about her life with horses, the one horse, Woody, that changed everything for her when she was younger and who changed the way she trained all horses. She talks about her Australian Brumby Mare Sienna who made her change her ways even further to have to be so gentle as even looking at her was far too much pressure for this traumatised horse to handle. After years of seeing soundness and confirmation problems in many horses here in Australia, Kirsty came across the Spanish Mustang breed. This led her to a lifelong love and obsession with the breed. Kirsty tells us how she travelled across America and how she chose the horses, or rather how they chose her, who have been the foundation of her breeding stud here in Australia. She goes deep into the breed and the type of horse they are, the type of human you have to be to own one and the type of training they need in order to thrive. She also let’s us know the horses that she has up for sale at the moment, just in case you became as enamoured for the breed as I did when I first met them all those years ago.I have known Kirsty for many years and I am thrilled to be able to bring you her story. She is one of those people who is part horse, she is so gentle and kind with her horses and on her Facebook page you can read the incredible stories of her journey with the breed, how and why she trains them as she does and the results that she obtains. To find out more about Kirsty you can find her on her website or her Facebook pageI hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.
Angela Davison The Horse Herbalist Angela Davison is The Horse Herbalist, she has spent her life and career with horses in many different ways. Starting out in showjumping in her native country of England, she came to Australia to visit her Dad and decided to make a life here.Angela was one of the first licensed female jockeys in Australia. Now her story up until this point would make an excellent episode in itself. However, it gets even more interesting when she decided, after seeing so many horses who were not able to be helped by modern medical methods, when she herself was always back on the horse quite fast from her chiropractic treatments and the herbal remedies that her chiropractor gave her, to go on and study herbalism and body work for both humans and horses. This led her to a career of giving back to horses in quite a fascinating way. Angela took 7 years to develop a technique she calls hair testing. This is not taking hair and putting it into a machine and getting a report back. This is about connection with the horse on a deep level to find the cause of the symptom. In herbalism Angela learned how to treat the whole being instead of just the symptom so she developed this method to give her this edge and be able to get real results faster than she could without them. There was no need to do hundreds of dollars worth of tests to try and find the problem, she created a method to get right to the source. It might all sound a bit hard to believe, but after 20 years of results and thousands of cases of success under her belt, Angela is definitely the real deal. As a Horse Herbalist Angela has treated top performance horses including the partnership she sponsors Shannan Goodwin and her horse Astro who are competing in dressage at Grand prix level. This episode is full of great information for how we can all understand our horses a bit better and see them as whole beings. But the best part, for me, was hearing all of the stories of horses that she helped along the way. She tells such great stories of the results she has gained for horses all over the world from all disciplines and breeds. You can find more information on Angela and her hair testing and products at her website. And you can follow her on her Facebook page.
Emma Bryant Equality Equine Services Episode 5 is with Emma Bryant from Equality Equine Services. I was lucky enough to attend a clinic at Emma’s place and I was blown away with her patience and gentle way of teaching. Some people talk about wanting an equal relationship with their horse, Emma lives this every day. She takes the time that it takes, and will do whatever it takes for the horse she is working with to feel safe, and ready, before taking any more steps.Emma learned so much of her craft by working a long life with horses, especially traumatised ones, they taught her new ways to reach them, and all because Emma showed patience and put herself in their shoes time after time. Even the time Emma had to leave training horses and took what seemed like a sideways step, she still learned so much about herd and prey animals and it helped her with horses in the end as well. She then returned to her first love, training horses and has many stories to tell of the positive changes she has been able to make in both horse and rider’s life.Emma teaches bravery in her clinics for both horse and rider. This does not mean she teaches us how to face our fears and jump big jumps or take on something huge. She empowers both horse and rider by teaching safety and clear communication. You can find out more about Emma and her work at her website and you can also follow her on Facebook or Instagram or her YouTube Channel.
Mel Fleming Connecting with Horses Riding with Synchronicity In this episode you will hear from Mel Fleming from Connecting with Horses and Riding with Synchronicity.Mel has been lucky enough to spend her life around horses. Her family were well known horse people and she was able, through hard work and support from her family, to go through the ranks of the horse world and work at a high level of dressage, to the highest level of natural horsemanship where she worked internationally with Pat and Linda Parelli among many other internationally renowned trainers.Mel is one of those people who keeps asking questions, she never settles for less. It seems she needs to go deep and make sure the horse is alright on every level as her deep need to connect fully with the horse and make a true partnership comes before the end performance result she is seeking. This is what has taken Mel all over the world developing her skills as she goes, the need to find someone who has the answers to her questions. In asking these questions Mel has been able to form her own style of horsemanship. On her website she says. “I think that true horsemanship is horsemanship from the horse’s perspective. What would horse’s call horsemanship and who would horses call a horseman?”“TRUE HORSEMANSHIP means putting yourself in the horse’s skin, seeing things through their eyes, thinking how they are thinking and feeling how they are feeling. Going beyond merely perceiving them as prey animals and knowing the individual beings (the spirits) that they are. In equal proportion to understanding the spirit of who horses are, true horsemanship also means understanding their physical bodies, so they can be ridden with true balance and healthy biomechanics. This is the only way that the ridden horse can stay sound, be healthy, be calm and yet responsive, enjoy their work and maximise their performance. This is what “Connecting with Horses & Riding with Synchronicity” strives to achieve.”Mel has the ability and the formula to go deep into each horse and help build a bond between horse and rider that is strong, and because of the biomechanics element, long lasting and sound. You can find out when Mel is coming to a town near you on her website and you can follow her on Facebook.Mel will open your mind to the difference between the use of techniques versus true connection when working with horses. She will challenge your current beliefs around horsemanship, and that can only be a good thing. I love learning more about true connection and Mel certainly gave me a lot to consider.I hope you enjoy this interview as much as I did.
Cristina Wilkins Horses and People Magazine One of the reasons I chose to do this podcast is because I believe that everyone has a great story to tell. We have all lived interesting lives and I love to hear the path people have taken to get to where they are.Cristina is one of those surprise packages that I was fascinated by! She has a wonderful story to tell about her childhood in Spain. She recounts being a small and timid child and how her mother, who did not want her to miss out on a life with horses, decided she should learn to ride on a pony, instead of on a large horse as was normally the way children were taught in her country. Her mum brought a pony from England for Cristina to learn to ride on and, sometime later, one summer, her sister began offering riding lessons on him. In just a couple of months she was booked out! Thus, soon after, with mum at the helm, they began the first children’s riding school to use ponies in Spain.Cristina went on to compete in eventing and came very close to representing Spain at the Barcelona 1992 Olympics. She trained in England for several years and, although she missed out on Olympic selection, she represented her country at 3* CCI Events, including the Young Rider European Championships. Her level of riding, as you can see from the pictures on my blog, was right up there with the best!Life then took her to New Zealand and subsequently Australia where after some years she came to work at horses and people magazine. Once she decided to become an owner of the magazine with Maxine Ellison, who you will hear from on next weeks episode, the magazine began to change. It went from an event schedule that let you know what was coming up in the horse world, to a magazine with a clear vision of making the world better for horses by educating their owners on the many facets of owning and interacting with horses. It's a fantastic story of the vision and passion it takes to put something of such a high standard to print each month and the values that she is driven by that are evident in every page of the magazine. To see the magazine, to subscribe or to get in touch with Cristina you can go to their website or find them on Facebook or Instagram or Twitter.
Maxine Ellison Horses and People Maxine Ellison is the co-owner of Horses and People magazine. Maxine is one of those people, who never leaves you wondering what she is thinking. I can see why horses love her as congruence and honesty is what they crave. Maxine is a natural leader who is on the forefront of standing up for horses and speaking out where others may hold back, especially when it comes to her love of harness racing. This is an enlightening talk many wonderful things about Maxine’s life with horses, we go deeper into Standardbred horses and their incredible nature and all of the things that they can go on to do in their life after racing. We talk about the magazine, why she bought into it and what her values are.To connect with Maxine you can go to the Horses and People website or find them on Facebook or Instagram or Twitter.
Tony Robinson The Wanderer In this episode you will hear from Tony Robinson The Wanderer. I have a feeling you may be a surprised as I was to hear what Tony has to say. An Australian country kid, growing up in Narrabri, the only horse riding lessons he had was to not fall off, or if you did fall off, try and figure out why and try to make sure it did not happen again! He met some interesting people, way ahead of their time using chiropractic methods on horses and cattle, this was to be his new path and he spent many years working and having great success as a body worker learning and teaching different methods as he went. But Tony it seems, was not put on this earth to live on the surface, that question of “why” kept making its way into his life and he, as the seeker he is, would work until he found the answer. This is not a practical interview about the construct of a horses body. Tony goes deep into the spiritual nature of horses and humans, he is a philosopher and deep thinker and there is every possibility he might challenge your belief system a little. The one thing that I know about Tony is that he always, always puts the horse first, he cares for horses deeply and his mission seems to be to help us humans look at them through new eyes.To connect with Tony you will find him on Facebook here or you can email him [email protected] or simply give him a call as he is the kind of guy that will help you in any way that he can his number is 0412 925 260.
Sandy Robertson SEQ Brumby Association On today’s episode you will hear from Sandy Robertson from SEQ, that’s for South East Qld where she is located, Brumby Association. Sandy has always had a place in her heart to rescue horses and find them a loving home. She hasn’t ever seen a problem horse, just misunderstood horses who need some time and kindness.Sandy has worked for many years in land conservation so knows a lot about how to take care of the land and is someone who has spent her life giving to others. When she was asked to take over the SEQ Brumby Association she jumped at the chance to do her part and for the last few years has been bringing in, retraining and rehoming Australian brumbies for life in a domestic home. There is a lot in the news at the moment about the Kosciusko Brumbies. The Brumby bill has just been passed and will serve to protect the Brumbies and acknowledges the part they play in the history of Australia. Their numbers will be managed, and the aim is to strike a balance between conservation of the brumbies and the land where they are grazing. If their populations become too big they will be trapped in the most humane way possible and given to associations like SEQ Brumby and retrained for domestic life. After hearing Sandy’s story about the incredible nature of our iconic Australian Brumbies, my hope, is that we can all open our eyes and our hearts to these incredible horses and have a think when it’s time for us to purchase our next horse. I certainly have an eye on one as my next horse, with 4 horses currently I will have to wait a bit before taking the plunge. When the time comes, however, it will be an easy choice to make.Sandy is an incredible human and her passion, and tireless work with these gentle guys, all voluntary and from her own pocket, shine through, the brumbies are as lucky to have Sandy as she is to be a part of their story. You can connect with Sandy via her website or Facebook page. You can see pictures of Sandy and all of the horses she spake about in the interview and much more at the blog on my website.
Elaine Heney Grey Pony Films On this episode you will hear from Elaine Heney from Grey Pony Films.Elaine has grown up with horses in Ireland and is lucky that her Father has a gentle hand, however it was on her travels around the world that her horsemanship changed forever, when in New Zealand Elaine saw a horse being ridden bareback with a single rein. It’s the old saying you can’t be what you can’t see.Once Elaine’s eyes were opened to this new way of being there was no going back for her, she then travelled to Australia and once home in Ireland she travelled to the UK to find a new way to train her horses.Elaine is a natural go getter in the world. She doesn’t seem to believe in can’t, she sees an opportunity and says yes, or makes a suggestion herself, and then figures out what has to happen next.Elaine is also an entrepreneur, she is the CEO of her company Chocolate Lab Aps. She has written 4 books, 3 of them on horses and horsemanship, one is called Ozzie The Story of a young Horse, it’s about her grey pony that she named after her journey in Australia and learning from Australian trainers, I've just read it and it's a lovely journey of how to train a problem horse. You can find these books on Amazon. So it’s absolutely no surprise to me that after being involved with a Mark Rashid movie in the US, she decided to teach herself how to become a movie maker. The Mark Rashid movie, Out of the Wild, which Elaine was the Executive producer, won the Directors Choice Award at the 2016 EQUUS Film Festival in New York.Elaine then went on to make a short film about Steve Halfpenny from Light Hands Equitation in South Australia. This film has been selected for 10 international film festivals, and won 11 awards, including best director, best cinematography and best documentary. The next natural step for Elaine was to make a feature length film about Steve Halfpenny, this film called Steve Halfpenny, Light Hands Equitation has just been released. I watched the film and it is beautifully done. Steve is a gentle and kind man with horses and the movie gives you a real sense of the type of horsemanship he does and how he was worked long and hard to make the world a better place for horses. With this movie Elaine has done her mentor proud.Elaine has now decided to expand her film making skills to incorporate anyone who is working with horses in an extraordinary way. She is still taking applications, you will hear more about this in the interview so sit back and enjoy this incredible woman. To connect with Elaine you can go to her website or Facebook Page.
Donna Anderson One horse Life Australia In this episode you will hear from Donna Anderson from One Horse Life Australia. Donna is at the end of many years of learning and is at the beginning of her teaching journey with horses and people.Donna started her life with horses as a lot of people did by getting her first pony when she was young. Then there was the catalyst that changed her horse training for ever. When one of Donna’s horses died while she was in the UK visiting her Mum, she felt lost and unable to go on with horses for the time being. When Donna finally made a promise to the horse she lost that she would change the way she trained and make sure she was always kind and gentle with horses, the universe delivered her, with one last test of her word, a new horse.Donna found One Horse Life  with Anna Marciniak and spent years training online and then in person. This is the foundation of her training methods.Donna teaches connection with your horse and always giving your horse a voice. No matter your discipline or level of riding, Donna and her training can teach you to have the connection that you have always dreamed of.Like so many other trainers on this podcast series, it seems deep connection with your horse comes from deep self work, the horse is a mirror of your soul and seems to be here to teach us to let go of all that is holding us back.Donna has a great story to tell and is yet another brave and wonderful human who is here to listen to as much as she is to talk to her horses. To connect with Donna you can go to  her Facebook page.
Kate Pilcher Globetrotting In Episode 12 I speak with Kate pilcher from Globetrotting. Kate is a person who not only loves horses, but loves to travel the world, and after a spiritual crisis in her young adult years, she trekked off around the world riding horses along the way, and  decided to make a living out of her two loves. Hence globetrotting was born. When we become mothers, business owners and horse owners it can be easy to let the every-day grind stop you from doing the things that you love. Kate has kept such great balance in her life as every trek she sells, she rides herself first, before anyone else, she designs the whole experience for you in person with her little family in tow. She says she has the best job in the world, and after this interview, I am hard pressed to disagree with her!I had the pleasure of going to the Margaret river ride in 2017 and it was a trip of a lifetime. But when I booked it I knew that every trek on the website had the same feel about it, and after talking to other globetrotters it seems we all felt the same. It was after that trip that I really wanted to get the full story of how such an incredible business was brought to life, so I was thrilled when Kate agreed to be interviewed for the podcast. So this episode is a little different this one is not about training or working with horses, it’s about the pure pleasure of travelling the world and having a full cultural experience on horseback.During this interview it was a bit hard for me to stay focused as the virtual tour I had on horseback was so great I found it hard to come back to earth for a while. So for this episode I invite you to sit back, relax and enjoy your very own virtual tour of the world on horseback. If you would like to get in touch with Kate and her team and organise your very own life changing horse trek somewhere in this incredible world of ours, you can find her at her Globetrotting Website, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest or Google Plus. I hope to meet some of you in person out there on horseback one day! For now, enjoy Kate and her incredible story so far.
Gary Wells Emmett 4 Animals In todays show I speak with Gary Wells an Emmet Therapist for horses and humans. Gary’s name in the horse industry is held very high. Any time I’m on social media and see people ask for a body therapist, his name is always in the mix so when I started this podcast his name was one that I always kept in the back of my mind for approaching for an interview. And now you can find out why.Gary’s spent a lot of time in the horse racing industry and I am so glad that there are people in the industry who care for their horses enough to employ people like Gary, they care for their horses and their recovery and by using Gary and his Emmett therapy work, they are choosing a kind, gentle and so very effective way to keep their racers on the track.Gary works with all types of horses and as with most people I have interviewed on this podcast so far, the story of how they came to be doing their line of work is just as interesting as the work that they do.To connect with Gary you can go to his Gary Wells Practitioner Group website, or Facebook page or his Horse 360 website or Facebook page.
Fiona Darroch-Speedie Dancing with Horses In todays episode I speak with Fiona Darroch Speedie from Dancing with Horses. Fiona spent her early life in north western queensland and where her sense of freedom and adventure was nurtured and horses, and relaxed baby boomer parents, were the facilitators of that freedom. On moving to Brisbane she began dancing lessons and became an instructor, but it was the time that she found a true Latin dance teacher that her life with dancing changed for good.In time Fiona decided that dancing, horses and leadership, which she was teaching in the corporate world, were too good a mix to not explore. So began her life creating Dancing with Horses. When I speak to people about dancing with horses, they either feel excited and curious or they squirm in their seat. It’s something that can really be an incredible mirror to your behaviours when it comes to your leadership styles. Once again we find that horses are here to give us so much in their gentle and non-judgemental way. I wonder how this will make you feel?To connect with Fiona you can go to her website, Facebook page or instagram account.
Mosie Trewhitt Liberty Horsemanship In todays episode I speak with Mosie Trewhitt from Liberty horsemanship. Mosie is someone who gives me great hope for the future of horses on the planet. She is young and had the courage to understand there was a different way of being with horses from a teenager, and as a natural part of the social media generation, has a large following on Instagram, and is showing the world of horsepeople young and old, what is possible through choice and positive reinforcement. She is still young and knows that even though she is working in a new way, that there is even further for her to go. She is at a stage of really listening to her horses and seeing what they have to say, on where they can go together. I will be keeping a close eye on Mosie’s work as she develops it over the coming years, she is a real leader for her generation and I love that she was willing to share her story with a fellow podcaster. Mosie could easily have seen me as competition, but she instead saw me as a fellow traveller working with the same dream, to make the world a better place for horses, and she was happy to be interviewed and share her story. You can connect with Mosie on her website or Instagram account. You can also find her podcast on her website or on most podcast aps, it's called In the Spirit of Horse.
Rod Lockwood EQUITANA Australia In this episode I speak with Rod Lockwood the man who brought EQUITANA Australia to our shores 20 years ago.Having run my own businesses over the years I am one of those people who goes out for dinner and calculates the seats in the restaurant and staff and meal costs to see how profitable a business like this is. I go to QSEC and look at the same thing, the staff, the overheads with equipment, the planning and promotions and I do a few sums in the hope they are being profitable. I love to see small businesses thrive. So when I think of a mammoth event like EQUITANA and the sheer amount of overheads they would have to have before tickets are even sold it makes my brow sweat, that’s an incredible business all done by a small core team. Then I find out that Rod and his partners company worked from pure heart, a love of horses and a deep knowing that it would turn profitable eventually for many years before they actually made a profit. This is when I know that EQUITANA is something special. What I love about EQUITANA is the way it brings such a diverse horse world to one place. Where dressage meets reining and so many tens of thousands of people who attend from every discipline and horse breed known to Australia, all walk the same ground.Equitana is a place where all horse people can find common ground and where our pure love of horses brings us to this mammoth event, and over the 4 days, might just break down a few of those misconceptions we may have about each other. From all the profitable businesses around the world, this one has a beating heart, and that heart, is horses. To buy your tickets or find out more you can go to the EQUITANA Australia website, Facebook page, Instagram or Twitter account.
Kim Walnes The Way of the Horse In this episode I speak with Kim Walnes from The Way of the Horse. This one is along one folks, I thought about doing it in 2 parts but couldn’t make you wait that long for this incredible story. Through most of this interview I had a lump in my throat and at the end of it I just wanted to reach through the internet, all the way across the ocean to America and give Kim an enormous hug and say “My word you’ve been through a lot”.Kim Walnes knows what it’s like to live your dream at be at the pinnacle of the horse riding world winning Rolex on her horse the Grey Goose in 1982. She tained with internationally renowned Jack LeGough and rode at Badminton. She has also ridden as a double to Melissa Gilbert in the movie Sylvester. However in 1991 she also experienced the lowest of lows when she lost her daughter who was murdered. I now right.Kim then later had a car accident where she had to be revived, her explanation of this time is incredible, her daughter was there, she wanted to stay but it wasn’t her time.Kim is one of those people who was born part horse. Horse was her first word, she can hear when they speak and she has now decided a great life lived is one where she can teach people about these incredible sentient beings and how you too can have true connection with your horse. To connect with Kim you can go to her Way of the horse website or her Facebook page. This episode was brought to you by EQUITANA Australia. Tanya Bevilacqua Mindfully Mounted and Fit In this episode I speak with Tanya Bevilaqua from Mindfully Mounted and Fit. I found this talk fascinating. Tanya uses the Alexander technique which I have heard about before but never took the time to understand. It fits completely with the values I love to promote on this podcast. It works to find the root cause of the problem and then gives the body an opportunity to do things differently. It requires empathy and sensitivity. It is gentle and profound.Tanya found this technique for herself after her own serious health issues that affected her balance. She now teaches it to humans and horses giving them balance and a deeper connection with their horse. This work is a collaboration between horse and rider where the horse can tell you where you need to adjust your body to give them better movement. I know right, fascinating! To get in touch with Tanya you can find her on Facebook. you can find out more about the Alexander Technique hereYou can also go to the blog on my website to see photos of Tanya and her horses and some of the work she has done with horses. This episode is brought to you by EQUITANA Australia. Anna Blake Relaxed and Forward In this episode I speak with Anna Blake who is a dressage trainer, author and blogger. Her blog, Relaxed and Forward has a weekly entry since 2011, so if you like what you hear today, as I know you will, and you want to immerse yourself in what Anna teaches, her blog is a great place to start. She has also written 4 books and coaches people all over the world in dressage, one of the amazing things Anna brought to the horse world is the awareness of calming signals. These are signals that we may take as disrespect or disobedience from our horses, when actually, it’s our horses way of asking us to calm down please, and let’s work this out together.I imagine that if everyone in the horse world understood these signals and listened to their horse in this way, then oh my, what a beautiful world it would be for horses! If you'd like to buy Anna's books then you can go to book depository here.To read Anna's blog, organise a session with her or see where her next workshop is you can go to her blog website. She also has an author website here.To read the book Anna mentions Turid Rugaas' Calming Signals you will find it at book depository hereTo read the book Language Signs and Calming Signals of Horses : Recognition and ApplicationBy (author) Rachaël Draaisma, you can go to book depository here.To see photos of Anna you can go to the blog on my website here. This weeks show is brought to you by EQUITANA Australia. Top 5 Horse Training Tips so far In this episode I have gone back over the trainers that I have spoken to in each previous episode and found the Top 5 Horse Training Tips. What I love about these tips is that they all have a similar focus. These trainers are from varied disciplines and from all over the world, yet their foundations are similar, their naming of it may be a bit different, the way they do it may be slightly different, but the intention and end result are all very similar. They all work with calmness and taking your time to build a strong connection with their horse. Here are the links to the trainers that I speak of in the podcast.Mosie Trewhitt from Liberty HorsemanshipKirsty Hagger from Willowvale Spanish MustangsEmma Bryant from Equality Equine ServicesValence Williams from Soul Horse RevolutionMel Fleming from Connecting with Horses, Riding with SynchronicityAnna Blake from Relaxed and ForwardDonna Anderson from One Horse Life Australia and New ZealandTo let me know of your training questions you would like answered please connect with me on my website, or through Facebook, Twitter or InstagramThis episode was brought to you by EQUITANA Australia. Callie King CRK Training In this episode I speak with Callie King from CRK Training. Just like so many other trainers I’ve interviewed on this podcast, Callie wanted to find a better way to do things after the experience she had with a difficult horse. So today I wanted to first of all, pay tribute to those horses, the ones who are on the frontline of absolutely stubbornly refusing to respond in any positive way to old training methods of domination and negative reinforcement, they are forcing us to make the changes we need within the horse industry to be kinder, more gentle and truly connected to our horses. I’m sending a big thanks and lots of love to those stubborn and apparently unable to be trained horses, and also to the trainer, like Callie who have listened and not given up.Callie has a wonderful story of how she took the time to learn as much about behaviour as she could, will all different species, to find a better and kinder way to train horses. She found mentors along the way and as a young person, is yet another leader for her generation of teaching humans how we can go deeper with our horses and have the kind of relationship that we have previously only dreamed of.To connect with Callie and her incredible online learning programs you can go to her website. You can also follow her on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. From learning to listen to your horse, to understanding the principles of dancing the Tango and taking them into your time with your horse, and to the beautiful gift that I received during this podcast, calmness.Andrea was so calm and clear I her communication throughout this podcast that after a night of barely any sleep, waking at 4am to record the conversation at 5am, no breakfast and a usually highly excitable nature, I felt calm and grounded by Andrea’s presence from the other side of the world! Dr Tauri Simone Aboriginal Stockwomen; Their Legacy in the Australian Pastoral Industry This interview is with Dr Tauri Simone an Aboriginal woman who has spent years writing a thesis on Aboriginal Stockwomen; Their Legacy in the Australian Pastoral Industry. Tauri is not only an incredibly well-educated woman, she is also a stockwoman, who lives in the outback of western Australia on a property that is 1.3 million acres. She musters cattle, no longer on horseback, but she used to. She lives a privileged life compared to the women she writes about. In this interview you will hear how it is for a stockwoman now and how it was for those who came before her. It’s a fascinating story for any horse lover to hear how these women trained and rode horses to round up cattle and jump off their horses and spear tackle cattle! Taurie is a brave woman choosing to tell this story, her legacy is that she is telling the story as something for aboriginal people to be proud of. She leaves out most of the atrocities as the trauma does not need to be opened again, but the story of these unbelievably resilient and capable women, must live on.I believe, this is the type of story that we need to keep telling to begin the healing of colonialism and to move forward as one people. To read Dr Tauri Simone's full paper you can go to this link and download the pdf and have a good read. please have a read, let's all keep these stories that matter circulating so they can't be lost. This episode was brought to you by EQUITANA Australia.
The Impact we have on our Horses. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the impact that we have on horses as their owners and riders and I wanted to highlight that in this episode. So I’ve gone back over the interviews I have done since the beginning of this podcast and I’ve selected what I believe are some pearls of wisdom. The main reason I want to do this is to get you thinking more about the impact we have on horses. Like I said before, I’ve been pondering it A LOT and wanted to open the conversation with you guys. As I know you are on the same path as me.This is about how we as a humans influence horses in their body and function. This is not even in our training methods or feed or where we house them so to speak. This is about us directly, how does our body and emotions effect the body and emotions of our horse. In this episode my intention is to not make it too long, not talk too much myself or go into my own story. These incredible horsepeople say it so beautifully, my hope is that these words will stay with you and really get you considering these things they speak of.Please let me know what you think. You can reach me on my website, Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. The trainers I have referenced from previous episodes are as follows. Karine Vandenborre Horsefulness Training In this episode I speak with Karine Vandenborre from Horsefulness Training. Karine has, over the years, put mindfulness and horsemanship together. The thing I love about Karine is that she has a breadth of experience in horses, and it’s her choice to always put the horse first and see what fits for them, that makes her a great trainer in my eyes. When I ask her about why she rides bitless, she says it’s simply because all the horses she rides prefer it that way. Even though she’s trained in biomechanics and could probably give me scientific reasons as to why she prefers to ride bitless, she still puts the horse first. I love this!Karine also had the chance to be anything she wanted when she was younger and her teachers and parents all tried to talk her out of working with horses. Can you believe it! Luckily for us, Karine followed her heart and we can now have access to her wisdom and online courses. To connect with Karine you can go to her website or Facebook page. You can also find Karine's 3 podcast episodes on her website.
Tracy Malone My Story so far It has taken me 31 episodes but I've finally taken the time to record my story so far. I've told this story a few times in the past weeks to various people so I thought I'd record it as an episode to save my voice from having to say it many more times! This is how my life began with horses. It is how I did my horse journey in the reverse order to most people and why that needed to be. It's about the reason I started this podcast and where we go from here.It also has a treat at the end where I share an email I received last week that lifted me up and I wanted to share it with you. It's the relatively short version of my life so far and it is definitely not the end of my story but I am glad I am able to share it with you.
Dr Lena Clifford Animal Biomechanical Solutions In this episode I speak with Dr Lena Clifford from Animal Biomechanical Solutions. Lena studied veterinary science in her homeland of Germany, doing a doctorate there before coming to Australia to be with her now husband Darrell who is an extraordinary horse person in his own right. You will hear how Lena felt the vet world taught her scientific skills but there were holes to be filled, she found a teacher and mentor in Traditional Chinese Medicine TCM and her world changed forever.Lena will get you thinking, if you haven’t already, about why you rug your horse, at what age you might like to think of starting your horse under saddle based on science, how much support foals needs once it is born and so many other interesting topics. This is a insightful conversation and I’m so glad I can share it with you.To connect with Lena you can go to her website or Facebook. You can also go to the blog on my website to see photos of Lena with her horses.
Sandra Poppema HippoLogic In this episode I speak with Sandra Poppema from HippoLogic. And no, she does not work with Hippo’s! Her business name is rooted in her history and lineage and it beautifully reflects the work she does in helping horses, by helping their humans.Sandra, like a lot of us, knows that any issues with the horse can usually be traced back to us in some way, and that if she works on the confidence and self esteem of the humans as well as the thought processes in their training, then the horse will respond and perform differently as well.Sandra has a background in animal behaviour, she studied it at university level. It’s so interesting to hear what she learned and how she implements that into her work now.As a special treat for you, Sandra created a special coupon code "Comealongfortheride2018" this will get you get 50% off her eBook "Key Lessons, Your Key to Success in Positive Reinforcement Horse Training" which is valued $27 CAD. Here is the link https://clickertraining.ca/product/ebook-key-lessons-your-key-to-success-in-positive-reinforcement-training/If you'd like to get to know Sandra a bit better or are curious to experience what online coaching is and how it can help you, then why not sign up for a free 30 minute Discovery call with Sandra. Stacy Westfall and Pedro Torres at EQUITANA Australia 2018 This episode is a little bit different. If you follow me on social media, you will know that I have just spent 4 days at EQUITANA Australia. And I was there to be the MC of the VIP Super ticketholder events. The first event I was fortunate enough to interview Stacy Westfall and Pedro Torres. For anyone who does not know who that is, I’ll give you a bit of the intro from EQUITANA’s program. Stacy Westfall is one of the US’s top clinicians and competitors. She is a specialist in reining but rides most western disciplines. It would take me a long time to list all of her achievements, so I’ll name just a couple, in 2003 she won the National Reining Horse Association Freestyle competition where she performed without a bridle. She went on to win major reining freestyle competition riding bareback and bridle-less. I do also have to tell you how Stacy was the first woman to enter and win, the prestigious Road to the Horse colt-starting competition.Pedro Torres is a world champion Working Equitation specialist who trains using classical Dressage principles and by establishing a respectful and kind relationship with his horses. His name is synonymous in Europe with harmonious classical horse training. It’s a wonderful opportunity to be able to interview people like Stacy and Pedro who are world class in their chosen discipline. It’s so lovely to speak to two people who do different disciplines, and who have more in common that you would think, and it’s lovely how they have so much respect for each other.A massive thanks to EQUITANA Australia for allowing me to record and broadcast this interview here for you all. Here are all the links that you will need to connect with each guest and EQUITANA.Come Along for the Ride Website blog with photosStacy Westfall Website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTubePedro Torres Website, Facebook, Instagram, YouTubeEQUITANA Australia Website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter
Chris Burton, Stacy Westfall and the Dan's from Double Dan Horsemanship at EQUITANA Australia 2018 This week’s episode is another gem from the 4 days at EQUITANA Australia 2018 where I was the MC for the VIP super ticket holder event. This one is a cracker! On this day I was lucky enough to have Chris Burton who is one of Australia’s best eventers of the modern times. He represented Australia at the 2010, 14 and 18 World Equestrian Games, the London 2012 Olympic Games and the Rio 2016 Olympic games where he won a bronze medal on his young horse Santano II.Stacy Westfall the super decorated western rider is back again. Her bio is in the previous episode so go back and have a listen to the last episode if you’d like to know more about her. Then, there are the Double Dans from Double Dan Horsemanship. Dan Steers and Dan James who conduct clinics all around the world and are also great entertainers. Their show includes horsemanship, trick riding, comedy and a whole lot more. This is one of the moments I will not forget and I will tell this story for years to come. This is the day where one of the top equestrians of the modern times, learned something from a couple of Aussie Cowboys. This shows a strength in Chris Burton and a humbleness to be open to this kind of learning especially in front of a live audience. It also show that no matter who you are, you have value.Another massive thank you to EQUITANA Australia for giving me the opportunity to MC this event and also record it and broadcast it to you all.To see pictures of the day you can go to the blog on my website. How to connectChris Burton – Website, Facebook, InstagramStacy Westfall – Website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTubeDouble Dan Horsemanship – Website, Facebook, InstagramEQUITANA Australia – Website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter
