Fiercely Independent at Woodstock Film Fest Episode I start the New Year catching up with Meira Blaustein Co-Founder/Executive & Artistic Director of the Woodstock Film Festival. Fiercely independent is her motto. A maverick, and beautiful free spirit, she follows her intuition and boldly leads her team to continue as one of the top, most respected, and influential regional film festivals worldwide.

Launched in 2000, we cover the gamut of over twenty years of transformation from analog to digital, regional expansion from renovated movie theaters to Covid lockdown and its virtual screen land audiences; annual film festival submissions and curated programming to year-round events and intensive filmmaking incubators for the next up and coming filmmakers.

You could hear the excitement in her voice. And when all is said and done, another successful film festival under her belt (2021 was a hybrid of in-person and virtual film, panels, events programming), Meira starts the New Year weekend watching films submitted for the next Woodstock Film Festival in fall 2022.

“It’s all about the film,” she says with a chuckle, “make sure it’s a good film first and foremost. Where it will take us next is the journey, but the film must be a good one.” I also say it’s about passion. Passion for good independent film and good filmmaking. I look forward to hearing more about what is coming up. I’m never disappointed.

Why is everyone struggling so much with inclusion, equality and diversity? In our second episode, Philip has an increasingly urgent issue in his sights. It’s a question that many have been asking for years: Why is everyone in advertising struggling so much with diversity, inclusion and equality? He examines the issue in conversation with Adrianne Smith, the Founder and President of the Cannes Can Diversity collective, Monique Nelson, the Chair and CEO of UWG, and Madonna Badger, Chief Creative Officer of Badger & Winters.
Why is it so hard to prove the value of creativity? In our first episode Philip gets to the heart of the belief that creativity is a driver for change, for business and for good and asks: Why is it so hard to prove the value of creativity? His expert witnesses are Alexander Schill, the Global Chief Creative Officer and Partner of the serviceplan group, Jonathan Mildenhall, Founder and Chief Executive of 21st Century Brand, a strategic consultancy based in San Francisco, Andrew Robertson, CEO of BBDO and consultant Cinzia Morelli-Vergooh.
How can brands earn the right to be authentically part of culture? Our third question is one that everyone who produces creative work has to address: How can brands earn the right to be authentically part of culture? Philip tries to come up with some answers with a little help from Burger King CMO Fernando Machado; the Chairman and Founder of Translation and United Masters, Steve Stoute, and Nils Leonard, the Creative Founder of Uncommon Creative Studio.
Should brands leave making the world a better place to politicians, NGOs and the UN? Philip takes a moment to explore whether brands should "do good" with SY Lau, Senior Executive Vice President, Chairman of Group Marketing and Global Branding at Tencent, P&G's Chief Brand Officer Marc Pritchard, Patagonia Marketing Director, Europe, Alex Weller, Michelle Melendez, Senior Director of Global Philanthropy at Global Citizen, and Gustavo Lauria, the CCO of We Believers.
What exactly is great customer experience? Philip takes a moment to explore what makes a great customer experience with Nick Law, Chief Creative Officer of Publicis Group, R/GA's US Chief Creative Officer Tiffany Rolfe and Daniel Bonner, Global Chief Creative Officer of Wunderman.
