Episode 59 – Trout Spey and Other DIY Stuff Coming off the big Trout Spey Rendezvous, there are some things I wanted to share for DIY anglers and why Trout Spey fishing, or at least swinging flies, is an important tool to have. We discuss fly fishing in the U.K., tactics and techniques for salmon fishing, and some of the non-profits that Marina participates in to serve others through fly fishing and help protect her local waters. You can find out more about Marina, her fishing school, and the organizations she is a part of by visiting her website:Marina Gibson Fishing.comFor more fly fishing stories, lessons learned, and artwork check out my blog and online gallery at WadeOutThere.com

Oklahoma Outdoors – Uncut: My 2023 Nebraska Turkey Trip John had a heck of a trip to Nebraska to visit his sister and chase Merriam turkeys. On this week's uncut episode of the Oklahoma Outdoors podcast, John talks about the many times he got caught by gobblers with his pants down, multiple close calls, and how distracting all the deer sign was. It is almost hard to believe he didn't fill his tag after situations like walking up on birds midday, turkeys gobbling when he didn't have his bow, and even calling a long beard to 10 steps! He really has nothing to blame but himself.Even after all the mishaps, it was still an incredible trip. He got to do a lot of scouting for both turkeys and deer, and got permission on yet another property for this fall. John also got to see the effects of EHD for himself, finding multiple deadheads while walking around scouting. It is truly incredible how diverse whitetails and turkeys are and all the places they can thrive, even when it seems the cards are stacked against them.Check out the Sportsmen's Empire Podcast Network for more relevant, outdoor content! [UNCENSORED] – All About AI and SquatchBot In this week’s [UNCENSORED] podcast by GoWild, we’re talking all things AI. We discuss several of the concerning questions such as what are the societal impacts, will we lose our jobs to AI, and will AI learn to code itself and take over humanity. The trouble is that we can no longer undo this thing and it’s here to stay. Which AI platform is the scariest one? Part of the problem with this now is that people already believe everything they see, how far will AI twist the truth? There is one silver lining amidst all this AI, tune in to find out what that is.Now that we’ve terrorized you about the threat of AI, find out how we’re using it. If you’ve never utilized the “ask the community” feature in the GoWild App, this allows you to get answers to a specific question you have about a particular outdoor pursuit. We saw this as an opportunity to integrate our own version of AI, and have begun using and continually refining our own AI-inspired SquatchBot to help you get quick answers to your questions. SquatchBot is learning from the community and from previous posts along with scouring the internet for answers. Find out our goals for it, how it works, and what you can learn from it. We talk about one way specifically how he’s starting to really help members. There are some benefits from SquatchBot that GoWild members just can’t replicate, along with times when humans have the proper answer … and now you can have the best of both worlds!Want to test him and try it for yourself, jump in the app and ask the community or send SquatchBot a DM!If you like what you’re hearing, please leave us a rate and review!![UNCENSORED] by GoWild kicks off your week with shameful nonsense, inappropriate convictions, and unfiltered tales from the woods, waters and whatevers. [UNCENSORED] is a behind the scenes look at our adventures, failures, wins, embarrassing moments at trade shows, hilarious tales from the warehouse, and a good rant or three about the most recent tyranny from the Dark Lord of the Sith himself. The show launches every Monday morning. Episode 135 Kyle Zempel & The Crash The problem with this podcast, like working at Baskin Robbins, is that we're constantly being introduced to new flavors of fly fishing that we yearn to sample. When we first heard of "The Crash", our smallmouth senses began to tingle and we went straight to the source for insight into a remarkable feeding frenzy that occurs on Wisconsin's namesake river. Kyle Zempel of Black Earth Angling Co. abides and explains "The Crash" and other fishing opportunities that we now have to go add to our North Woods itinerary. Learn more about your ad choices. Montana winters can grind a guide down, but Jason Brininstool has managed to keep a smile on his face. Jason flees for the tropics to work as a PADI Scuba Instructor or hosts trip to far flung destinations like Cuba and Columbia. Jason's positive attitude has attracted a cadre of loyal clients who trust him with adventures far beyond the rivers of Western Montana. This has made his off-season all the more interesting and one particular foray to Xcalak, Mexico formed a forever-memory and serves as a reminder to never judge a guide by their boat. Episode 15: Atlantic Salmon Federation In Episode 15, I sit down with John Burrows and Jeff Reardon of the Atlantic Salmon Federation.  I learn more about the work that they do, but on the docket is talking about our current situation with the potential removal of four dams on the Kennebec River to help restore Atlantic Salmon and other vital oceanic baitfish to help enrich the Gulf of Maine.
EP. 331: A Safe Place To Become Dangerous | Tim Carpenter Today I'm joined by my buddy Tim Carpenter. Tim is the owner and coach at Hellfisfish MMA. He’s been immersed in martial arts for nearly all of his life and is incredibly accomplished in every thing from Judo to BJJ and as a professional MMA fighter. If you’ve listened to this podcast for any length of time you likely know two things about me. My rekindled love of grappling/Jiu jitsu. And finding connection points among things that on the surface seem to not have much in common but share fundamental principals. I was surprised by how many folks who listen to the podcast are jiu jitsu practitioners. And BJJ and bow hunting whitetails is…well…not as different as some might think. There’s a lot of similarity between a killer in the whitetail woods and a killer on the jiu jitsu mats. The obvious is the dedication and passion to the craft. What is often overlooked is the elite performers in both are….experts in the fundamentals preferring substance over style. I hope you all dig this episode as much as I enjoyed the conversation – thanks for listening! To listen to the podcast click the purple play button at the top of the page. You can also download the podcast via iTunes, Stitcher Radio and Go ogle Play—don’t forget to share with your friends! 68: 4 Life Lessons from Improv Comedy For all of us who work on self-improvement, it’s easy to fall back into old habits. As we grow, we adopt new and better systems and strategies, but there is still a sneaky saboteur in all of us waiting for the other shoe to drop and bring us back down to earth. This is a particular problem for recovering perfectionists and overthinkers. Tune in this week to discover how we negate the joy, victory, and gratitude of our lives, and how we can instead take from the cardinal rules of improv comedy, saying, “Yes, and…” accepting what your fellow performers are offering as a potential gift, and keeping the laughs coming.   Get full show notes and more information here: https://jackiedecrinis.com/68

Limbhanger – Gobblers & Banditos – Outfitter Stories From Borderland This week on Limbhanger, we're talking about when and where might be your best bet when it comes to booking an outfitted turkey hunt. This is important especially when it comes to chasing the 49 state Super Slam. While the majority of our conversations are focused on public land hunting, there are absolutely some scenarios and states where you may want to consider an outfitter, and some that it would be necessary. Adam gets the opportunity to do some of these hunts through his job and recently came back from a trip to South Texas hunting Rio gobblers. Joey booked an outfitted hunt with Jay Scott for his Goulds hunt in Mexico. As the guys talk through their experiences, they break down some of the good and bad when it comes to this style of hunting. Check out the Sportsmen's Empire Podcast Network for more relevant outdoor content! Pennsylvania Woodsman – Shooting Straight On Target and In Life Good Friday and Easter weekend is a time to slow down and celebrate. It's easy to be caught up in the chaos of everyday life and be consumed by personal goals. This is especially true for us as bowhunters and outdoorsmen and women who desire to take our pursuits to the next level. On this week's episode of the Pennsylvania Woodsman, we have a conversation with Merle Fredericks from Christian Bowhunters of America and discuss things in a bigger picture. Merle digs into the details revolving around the question, "what does Good Friday mean to you?"Merle's life has been comparable to most – a husband and a father working as a police officer in New York, and a love for bowhunting. His passion for chasing whitetails with a stick and string is no different than anyone else. But Merle sheds light on truth greater than this pursuit, and shares witness to us beyond the world of hunting. Be open minded as you listen to Merle's message as a leader of Christian Bowhunters of America. Happy Easter!Check out the Sportsmen's Empire Podcast Network for more relevant outdoor content!www.radixhunting.com@radixhunting #radixhunting Learn more about your ad choices. [UNCENSORED] – Bassmaster Banter and a Conversation about the Commercialization of Conservation In this week’s [UNCENSORED] podcast by GoWild, Jacob is moving slow, but catching up with a cup of Wildland Coffee. The boys went to the Bassmaster Classic in Tennessee, got to hang out with some vendors, met a few pros, and took a selfie with the Godfather of flop, Mr. Bill Dance. Dan Johnson shares a legendary Bill Dance story with the one time he got beat! We talk about the thrill of the big event and what the pros are doing to stay on fish. If you’ve ever wondered how one of these tournaments works, we’ve got your answers.Dan Johnson from Sportsmen’s Empire is our featured guest once again, this time to talk about many of the new proposed rules and regulations around hunting. Dan talks through some of the issues and lets us know what’s happening and why hunters should be concerned. He talks about companies hiring lobbyists to push new hunting laws for the companies to make money. He also poses some difficult questions, like should we have a firearm season on whitetails during the rut, what role do wildlife managers serve, and who is really making these laws. He mentions you should contact your local representatives to share your opinions whether you support or disapprove of any new bills. Another great resource for hunters to stay “in the know” is by joining and supporting Sportsman’s Alliance. Hunters, anglers, trappers, and outdoorspeople should equally get involved with their state wildlife management agency to voice their concerns and express their wishes. If you like what you’re hearing, please leave us a rate and review!![UNCENSORED] by GoWild kicks off your week with shameful nonsense, inappropriate convictions, and unfiltered tales from the woods, waters and whatevers. Houndsman XP – Leading the Charge to Reduce Wolf Numbers – f4wm There has never been a bigger impact for Houndsmen than the WOLF. Houndsmen have had their futures and breeding programs altered, changed the way they hunt, changed areas they hunt, even moved their families to new areas of the country hundreds of miles away all because of the wolf. The Foundation For Wildlife Management (f4wm) is a group that is taking on the weaponized, politicized and mischaracterized issue of the invasion and impact of the Canadian Grey Wolf in the Northern Rocky Mountain Region. Justin Webb is the CEO for the f4wm. Justin saw the impact the wolf was making on native wildlife populations, how it was affecting recreation opportunities and destroying hunting opportunities in areas that were once teeming with wildlife. He was not willing accept that. He recognized that the wolf is a project that is weaponized by the anti hunting community, a political hot potato and was being forced down the throat of every hunter. His efforts have created an organization that has taken the issue straight on. The f4wm has worked with many sporting organizations and wildlife managers to put aggressive management plans in place that has reduced wolf numbers by over 1600 wolves and paid out over $1 million in reimbursement to hunters and trappers taking wolves. This is a must listen podcast for every Houndsman that is serious about preserving our lifestyle. Huntavore – Emperor’s Table Series: John Hudspeth On this episode of Huntavore, Nick’s sights turn southward as he is joined by John Hudspeth, Host of the Oklahoma Outdoors Podcast. John may be the pickiest eater on the show, yet resides in a true sportsmen’s cornucopia of species to chase. One in particular is the feral hog, an animal that brought a lot of attention to itself in the past several years. John paints a picture of what Nick is to expect when he travels down and faces off against these formidable beasts. To top it all off, John lays out a couple dishes for the Emperor’s Table that even picky eaters will enjoy. Lots of great conversation on this episode of Huntavore.John Hudspeth, AKA “The Voice of Oklahoma” , coined by one of his listeners, invited Nick and the Sportsmen’s Empire crew to a hog hunt. Biting at the chance, Nick wanted to have John on the show to lay out what was to be expected when chasing hogs. John gives some details on how to approach hog hunting, like feel free to take off in the morning, since the pigs in his area tend to be active evening and night. Also, pigs are heavily motivated by food this time of year. Put out the best grub, you’ll find the pigs. Speaking of grub, John lays out some great dishes to be presented at the Emperor’s table. John and the Oklahoma Outdoors Podcast can be found on Mondays on Sportsmen’s Empire Network.Check out the Sportsmen's Empire Podcast Network for more relevant outdoor content! Beau’s passion for all things outdoors comes full circle with his spring scouting for deer, that helps in his pursuit of mountain birds. We talk some tactics, but more about the history of turkey hunting in his family. His grandfather’s turkey calls, and what it’s like hunting birds in the big mountains of PA.Paul is on the pursuit of another turkey, this time down in Alabama. Looking forward to a recap of that hunt when he returns! Andrew’s been hanging out with his neighbor Dolly (deer) that comes over to play with Champ (dog) on these beautiful sunny days. One quick reminder, if you are outside, please be Tick smart! Those jerks are out and about and with the mild winter, you will probably see more this year than in the past.Have a great week and enjoy the O2 if you get out into Ohio’s great Outdoors!Check out the Sportsmen's Empire Podcast Network for more relevant, outdoor content!www.theo2podcast.comGoWild ProfileFirst LiteMidWest Gun WorksHalfRackXVisionInstagram: @the.o2.podcastTwitter: @OhiohuntPatreon Learn more about your ad choices. Houndsman XP – The Toughest Quarry in the Toughest Place – Part 2 Let’s just cut to the chase. Do you want to catch more stuff with your hounds? Do you want increased success rates? We cannot achieve that if we do not understand what is causing barriers to that success. The old man down the road that has been hunting for fifty years may be a able to help, providing he hasn’t been doing it wrong for fifty years. It’s no slight to him if he didn’t understand what the real problem was. After their last conversation, Heath follows up with Clinton Cillers from South Africa. They had barely scratched the surface on dog behavior and training a trailing dog. After the dry season a rain shower makes trailing seem easy. Heath and Clinton talk about how the different weather elements and the climate changes everything from the style and speed at which the dogs move to how they react when they make lose. The discussion gets very technical on behavior during a proximity alert and how air blown scent is stronger than ground scent. They give examples of what this means to all types of training. Clinton and Heath believe that self discovery is the ultimate teacher of any training. The two finish up the hour with scent pools and what it means, how the dogs struggle to work through them and what you may be witnessing without knowing what is actually taking place. This episode is packed full of knowledge and valuable information if you want to train better dogs and enjoy more success. Glad to have you along on the Journey.https://tacticalk9africa.co.zawww.houndsmanxp.comCheck out the Sportsmen's Empire Podcast Network for more relevant, outdoor content!SPONSORS:Cajun LightsGo WildOld South Dog BoxesJoy Dog FoodBriar Creek KenneldogsRtreedFreedom HuntersRough Cut Company Learn more about your ad choices. Pennsylvania Woodsman – Biology Based Careers and Management Discussion Hunting has a variety of emotions relating to its mixture of being both a science and an art. Many relate their hunting passion to their career choices. But is passion the true metric for career decision? This week on the Pennsylvania Woodsman we chat with Eric Lance from the HuntScience Podcast. Eric is a biologist that consults with landowners privately and also is an associate biology professor. Eric talks about how his passion for wildlife first drove his interest towards becoming a hunter – not the other way around. Eric's career experience is a great testimony to learning the influence of our strengths and weaknesses before applying them in our own careers. This allows us to transition into discussing the current projects Eric is working on. Eric is well rounded in land, big game, small game, and waterfowl management. He discusses the nesting success project he is doing with migratory birds and cites numerous examples of sound wildlife management through his own experiences. Understanding carrying capacity, population dynamics, and the habitat requirements of a species is necessary to interpret data and make decisions. It also is essential to understand what the most limiting factors are for a species – such as habitat loss. Tune in to better understand how certain management practices Eric uses have a positive impact on the game species you love!Check out the Sportsmen's Empire Podcast Network for more relevant, outdoor content!@radixhunting #radixhuntingwww.radixhunting.com @huntworth #huntworthwww.huntworthgear.com Learn more about your ad choices. We discuss our thoughts on why drawing tags is so tricky now and what that means for hunting. Over crowding in the west may or may not be such a bad thing. Enjoy this episode with Ryan.
