Brains On! Science podcast for kids Brains On!® is a science podcast for curious kids and adults from American Public Media. Each week, a different kid co-host joins Molly Bloom to find answers to fascinating questions about the world sent in by listeners. Like, do dogs know they’re dogs? Or, why do feet stink? Plus, we have mystery sounds for you to guess, songs for you to dance to, and lots of facts -- all checked by experts.
Foster Care: An Unparalleled Journey Foster care is truly an unparalleled experience. This is our journey as a foster and adoptive family that has seen and experienced a lot!

We want to share our joy and heartbreak with the world to inspire others to join in our mission of providing strength to the weakest among us. We are sharing our personal experiences as a foster and adoptive family and the stories that other brave souls are willing to generously share with us.

Our goal is to help potential foster families take that next step in the process and to encourage bio families to work with us towards the best possible resolution for every kid in care.
There is no better place for any kid to be than in their home with a mom and dad that cares enough about them to stop any behavior that puts their kids at risk. If you are willing to work towards that goal, we would love to encourage you to do so in any way we can!

Come listen to our story and find your hope!

Raising Good Humans As a parent, do you ever wish someone could just whisper some realistic and trustworthy support in your ear? And not make you feel awful for not having all the answers? Well, that’s what I’m here for.

I'm Dr. Aliza Pressman, developmental psychologist, parent educator, asst. clinical professor, and co-founder of both Mount Sinai Parenting Center and SeedlingsGroup. And I'm a mom... trying to raise two good humans myself, so I'm in this with you!

In each episode, we'll go deep (but brief) with both experts and parents to share the most effective approaches and tools and talk about the important bigger picture of raising good humans. My goal is to make your parenting journey less overwhelming and a lot more joyful!

Please join me every Friday for new episodes of Raising Good Humans.
Nurture vs Nurture with Dr. Wendy Mogel Nurture vs Nurture is a new podcast brought to you by the producers of Armchair Expert. Dr. Wendy Mogel, social-clinical psychologist and author, specializes in the protection and promotion of self-reliance, resilience, accountability and exuberance in children and she is our fearless leader in this new endeavor. Each week, Dr. Wendy sits down with a different set of parents for a therapy session. She brings her forty years of experience working with families to these intimate and wonderfully voyeuristic conversations. This podcast allows the listener to go on another family's journey and to receive practical advice along the way. Wendy proves that, perhaps counterintuitively, there is nothing more universal than our specificity. In each episode, Wendy also introduces us to a foreign word that is untranslatable into English in order to enhance our minds and vocabularies on parenthood, family and communication with those we love the most.
Bilingual Parenting Podcast Cultivate and celebrate bilingualism with the Bilingual Parenting Podcast, presented by Bilingüitos and hosted by Kaila Diaz. We exist to encourage and equip families who desire to give the gift of bilingualism to their children.

84. Free and Simple Ways To Make Summer Memories Welcome back to another episode of the Family Brand Podcast! Chris and Melissa here, and for the most part, we love the Summer. For us, it's more carefree, there's less schedule, you don't usually have to be places at certain times in the morning, the list goes on. We thought we would record a check-in episode to let you know how our Summer is going, and what our weeks with the kids look like!  One of the reasons we take Summers seriously is because, for us, we don’t have a ton of memories of growing up on family vacations or big trips. The things we remember from our childhood are the small moments. We think sometimes we put this unnecessary pressure on ourselves as parents. Some preach the season as if it has to be fun, over-the-top amazing, and every second of the day should be focused on entertaining our kids. However, we have found the same feelings we had as kids are still true today. Little fun things around your town and creating experiences and memories is what they'll remember the most about their Summers growing up.  You may be thinking, but what if I don’t have a lot of extra time or money? Don’t worry we got you covered! Hit play to hear how we design every day during the Summer around a quick, simple, and FREE activity for our kids that is fun for every age. The best part? These ideas are also overwhelmingly free. We know how fast things can start to stack up and all of a sudden your day is run by your kid's schedule and activities. That’s why we also want to let you in on why let our kids get “bored” and why we think it’s one of the best Summer gifts you can give them.  It’s the sad truth we only have 18 Summers with our kids. As our oldest gets ready to start high school this fall, this reality is hitting us harder than ever. We hope you take the ideas in the episode and make them your own! Even if none of them work for this season for your family, we hope that you take the time to dream up intentional ways to make your Summer a lasting memory for you and your kids. For more free resources and tips, check out the list below!  More Of What’s Inside: Why you should create a go-to activity list The power of letting your kids entertain themselves The 5 activities we do together as a family Why Summers feel so special  What we want our kids to get out of Summer How to make all 18 Summers great  And much more! Restful Work Series - Episode #2: Understanding Your Capacity In episode 1 of this series, I talked about understanding your time and that the fact that it is finite and limited. Each day has 24 hours to work with, and one day our days will literally be complete.Capacity - although limited as well - has another characteristic to consider, which is that it changes.Day by day.Season by season.Year by year.We don't have the same productive energy all the time, because our productivity is impacted by both foreseen and unexpected variables - all the time.So how do we know whether we should push through depleting capacity in order to get work done or to recognize we are running on (physical, mental, emotional or spiritual ) fumes and need to pause to honor our human limits (and rest) instead?Oh it can be a tangled web of capacity considerations as we lead in multiple roles each day, but I believe we can become self-aware enough to both get good work done and rest well. And I'm sharing my thoughts about it in this episode.************************************************FREE Mini-Course - Making a Rest Plan You can turn business burnout around, and it begins with knowing how to rest. This mini-course includes very short video lessons on the 7 ways to rest, my Rest Needs Quiz, and the Graceful Transitions Meditation for Moms.Enroll HERE.The Refreshed Moms Podcast Sabbath Rest CommunityThe #1 community for mom leaders who desire consistent rhythms of sabbath rest in order to sustain the work God has called them to do.If you feel like God has called you to do important work while you’re in a season of motherhood, but the rigor of leadership needed to accomplish it all is feeling like too much, then this community is for you.Learn more or join HERE.Instagram: @refreshedmomsSupport the show

Lorene was raised in Indiana. Her husband served in the Air Force and after being stationed at Hill for 4 years, they decided to make Kaysville their forever home.   in 2013 Lorene decided to run for Public Office. My guest today was sexually assaulted by her partner as a teenager, and carried this unintended pregnancy to term, at which point she put the baby up for adoption.  More than two decades have passed since these events transpired, but we talk about how every element of this challenging situation has impacted my guest's life, and continues to affect her deeply, and likely always will. Now that Roe v Wade is under such direct threat, and there are calls for women to "just carry out the pregnancy and put the baby up for adoption", what all this does to the woman forced to undergo this experience is more often buried than shared. I am grateful to my guest today for sharing her story.

EP 017 - Dirty (& Friendly) Nanay: Maintaining Friendships Ah the magic of friendship! In this episode, Zee and Rissa explore the natural changes in friendships while we parent toddlers--- the celebrations and also grief of trying to maintain these meaningful connections. We start the episode off with imagining our parallel universe selves coming up with a new TV show that involves matchmaking parents with other parents (because, finding parent friends is so much harder than finding a friend just for you--- especially after our 30's!), followed by a dialogue that has us talking about the waning and waxing of relationships as we navigate parenthood.

Moving Forward Despite Feeling Terrible We all have situations going on in our lives that are humming in the background.  In those times our minds will create some "background" music. You know the kind that we hear in stores, restaurants, and offices. Sometimes it is really loud, sometimes it is softer.  Some days the noise in our heads is louder than others. So then what?! What can we do, but move forward despite feeling terrible?  The beautiful thing that happens is we then become "wounded healers" as Steve Young says.  In becoming a wounded healer, we too are healed. Listen in for more! The Law of Love by Steve Young

RECAST: Overcoming Mom Guilt There are seasons in life where I look around and notice that those I love are struggling more than usual with feelings of shame and guilt over their identity as parents. There are seasons when I feel that way as well. This is one of those messages that I keep going back to so I can be reminded that the first step toward being an example of Christ's grace to others is to learn to show grace to ourselves. There is no guest on this episode. I am excited to share my heart with you and my own journey of messy brokenness.
104 - Spiritual Warfare, Be Prepared - Ruth Wagnell *Warning- the topic of spiritual warfare will be plainly spoken of. This can be scary for some children.
Any time we can hear the stories and gain wisdom from the generations before us, I think we need to pull up a chair. Ruth grew up in Africa on the mission field and later raised her own family there. Today she speaks truth to the women of our generation about the spiritual warfare that takes place and how to be on our guard. You will be challenged with the need to be on alert in our homes and as we equip our children for life with a sound mind.
Today we mentioned the ministry of Child Evangelism Fellowship

3 Ways to help your Teens learn how to Self- Regulate Behind most of those anger reactions we see in teenagers also lies their inabilities to self regulate their emotions. Many of them haven't learnt how, they haven't been modeled to in greater details and they haven't been supported in times of their anger outbursts.
When teenagers learn how to self regulate, they can be better friends to their friends, they can get along with others in social settings and they can avoid getting into trouble in schools or on the streets.
In this episode, I share some practical ways parents/carers can help their children/ teens learn and practice self regulation.
I trust these points will help you get started in teaching them self regulation.

Switching to Different Sleep Methods Many different sleep methods exist to help children (and their parents) get a good night's sleep. However, it is vital to remember that what works for one child may not work for another. For example, some children respond well to being rocked to sleep, while others find this method ineffective. As a result, experimenting with different sleep methods is often necessary until you find one that works for your child. In addition, it is essential to be flexible and willing to change methods if your child's sleep patterns change. For example, a toddler who has always been a good sleeper may have trouble sleeping through the night as he or she approaches school age. In this case, switching from rocking to another method, such as reading a bedtime story, may be necessary. Ultimately, the best sleep method is the one that helps your child (and you) get the rest you need.

How Positive Affirmations Can Help The Grieving Process Losing a loved one is one of the most significant and stressful life events that all humans must experience. Navigating grief will be different for each person but it can be really helpful to validate the sadness before trying to move through it.

Affirmations are a helpful tool for dealing with intense feelings of grief and loss. An affirmation is a declaration that brings clarity to the present moment. During difficult times, affirmations can help steady your emotions and create a more positive mindset. As you go through the grieving process, take some quiet moments to connect with yourself and use affirmations that resonate in a positive way.

In this episode of Vilomah, Jeanne van den Bergh provides information on how positive affirmations can help the grieving process and some powerful affirmations that can help shift your mind.
The importance of talking about death We all have different relationships with death, shaped by our personal experiences, religious or spiritual beliefs, culture, family history and current life circumstances. The one thing we all have in common is that dying and death will be a significant part of our lives. The simple fact is that we’re all going to die, and most of us will experience losing people we love and care for during our lifetime.

While talking about death and dying might be uncomfortable or upsetting, having conversations about these subjects with family members can help us emotionally.

In this episode of Vilomah, Jeanne van den Bergh shares her thoughts and experience on how to talk about death and why it's so important.

Babymoon A babymoon is a vacation expecting parents take before their baby is born. This is a relatively newer tradition with no strict rules. The point is to set aside time to enjoy yourself with your partner before your baby arrives. That could mean an all-inclusive resort on a tropical island, or it could be a day-long adventure in your city. This episode has tips for planning your babymoon to help you with the best time during your pregnancy to vacation, how to stay safe, work with your budget, and how to customize your babymoon to fit you and your partner. Plus, tips for making the most out of your babymoon to maximize quality time with your partner, relax, and maybe even get some free perks.   Thank you to our sponsors Save 40% off the Zahler Prenatal +DHA on Amazon with the code PREPOD40 until June 30, 2022. Hi! I'm Jim Jacob, a South Carolina based creator. I started as a podcaster by accident. Our first real episodes on the internet were me trying to find a solution to help tell my sons stories as I was traveling for work. I recorded some stories and hoped that by uploading them to a podcast app, my wife and kids could have easy access to listen. What started as a fix for our family’s bedtime routine interruption has grown into a worldwide audience with hundreds of thousands of listeners. My wife Jocelyn and I have 3 kids and love inspiring others towards greater imagination and curiosity.
