Season 5 Stall Tactics This is NOT a recap episode.  The truth is, we are just stalling so we can sit with the beautiful parts of 5x10 and 5x11 a little longer.  In this episode, we both get VERY distracted, a little defensive about our faves, and a tad shady about a certain character.  Whoops!  Anyway, enjoy these stall tactics.  No need to rush to the finale!

July 29th 2022 Queer Voices LGBT film "Albatross" -- Reproductive Justice in TexasWe speak with Myles Yaksich, writer/director of the film "Albatross". A dark, dramatic thriller, "Albatross" examines the concept of self (identity, ethnicity and sexual-orientation) in the context of society, while illustrating the compromises individuals are willing to make to feel as though they belong. Two seemingly separate narratives, spanning some 30 years converge at a dinner party between two newly introduced couples in 1959 New England, revealing that the attendees know much more about one another than they first thought.GUEST: Myles Yaksich https://www.albatrossthefilm.com/Then we speak with Sam Romero about the state of reproductive justice in Texas. We talk her healthcare experience and what can be done going forward. We discuss her work with the West Fund and Abortion Funds. The National Network of Abortion Funds builds power with members to remove financial and logistical barriers to abortion access by centering people who have abortions and organizing at the intersections of racial, economic, and reproductive justice.GUESTS: Sam Romero https://abortionfunds.org/
Interview with Michelle Douglas, Executive Director, LGBT Purge Fund We start at the very beginning: why she decided to join the Canadian Military. Douglas shares her story of what that was like, falling in love with another woman in her unit for the first time, being honourably discharged, and what happened after. Ironically, Douglas worked for the Canadian Department of Justice for many years, while working in advocacy to keep the government accountable. Douglas explains how in 2016, survivors of the LGBT Purge launched a nationwide class action lawsuit against the Canadian government. She was approached to manage the resulting settlement fund reached in 2018, and the rest is history. Read the complete show notes ☞ https://darrenstehle.com/michelle-douglas-lgbt-purge-fund/==========Darren Stehle is a Mind-Mastery Coach who works with LGBTQ+ creators, change-makers, and thought leaders to efficiently accomplish their goals, create a life they love, and make a difference in the process. If you're a creator or change-maker who wants to enjoy life and create a thriving business that makes a difference, you'll want to subscribe to my Substack where I publish weekly in-depth self-mastery practices and efficient productivity frameworks.
He runs while others walk Running probably saved my life. It’s saved Bond’s more than a few times as well. Here, I look back at his running career - which was not exactly impressive until Daniel Craig brought more metrosexual physicality to the character - and compare it with my own, which started soon after my first viewing of Casino Royale.
The Breakup I have some story time for you this week.  We are headed back in time as we look at how this thing called relationship works, or doesn’t!The title is a giveaway so let’s cut to the chase, we broke up, of course.  Let’s chat about why and what I learned, all hanging out, with a bit of shade.  Mistakes were made, all over the place, on all sides.  That’s pretty normal, we all have our ‘stuff.’  The best part is we get to work on it, together.Much love to you.  I’ll see you there.Get full show notes and more info here:https://coachalexray.com/podcast/78

The Big Move (Part 5) Here we go! It’s time for the conclusion to The Big Move.  Let’s wrap this up with a glittery bow and some reflection on shaking up my life, and yours.I know it feels far away to just jump off the board into the deep end and turn your life upside down.  Hell, I don’t think I knew what I was getting into and I went from one end of the country to the other.  That is ok.  The truth is, it’s all just one step at a time.  That’s all we can ever do.  Tune in this week for some ideas, (blow your mind!) questions and encouragement.Cheers to blowing things up!You’re more capable than you think.Get full show notes and more info here:https://coachalexray.com/podcast/77
Letters to Lucinda Today I’m tackling a controversial question. However, it’s not so much an answer that we’re going to arrive at, but a journey we’re going to go on. Was EGW an LGBTQ? Now for those of you listening who are not familiar with Adventist history, I apologize. She was a historical figure in the founding of the Adventist church. I’m not unaware of how negatively and even unfavorably just asking this question might be received. But I really believe it’s important to ask questions, even the questions you think you shouldn’t ask. I recently gave this presentation at the Kinship Kampmeeting, and it all started when I Googled a single question, as I often do, “Was Ellen White an LGBTQ?” For those who may be wary that I’m even asking the question, let me assure you, the results are inconclusive. Culture and language, and expressions of self-identity have drastically changed since the 1840s. So we have to do a bit of time traveling to explore 19th-century same-gendered relationships. While there are no hard claims made at anything, I do investigate a series of private letters that reveal a not-so-public truth. So if you’re interested in going on a journey, buckle up because it’s a wild ride.

Ever Feel Challenged to Live an Inspired Queer Life? For once, I'm the one being asked the questions! Enjoy this re-cast of the podcast, 40 Plus: Gay Men. Gay Talk, hosted by Rick Clemons."Ever feel challenged to live an inspired queer life? Feeling aimless and not sure what is next? Fellow Queer coach Darren Stehle challenges us to take a deeper step into self-mastery, ideation, and the journey of inspired action to live our most powerful lives as gay men over 40. You’ll learn useful techniques for bringing your ideal life to life."Rick Clemons is a well-known culture disruptor (in a good way), “closet buster (coming out coach),” and bold move strategist – inspiring people to live life with no excuses, no fears, no apologies. Tapping into his 25+ years of experience in personal development, and leveraging being a late bloomer, coming out of the closet at 36, he’s created a no B.S. approach for thriving as a gay man and father – personally and professionally. Rick loves writing (Frankly My Dear I’m Gay), podcasting (Life (UN)Closeted and 40 Plus: Gay Men. Gay Talk), facilitating out-of-the-ordinary personal development experiences and speaking to audiences across the globe on living life without apologies. He loves wine, his two grown daughters, and his husband, in that order (but don’t tell the hubby where he fits in the pecking order). Visit his website at RickClemons.com.

5×09 Very Meaningful Conversation If you can get past the technical issues with this one (SORRY!!!!), you will hear us talking about the start of Ted's hubby hunt, Jennifer's new boo, and Drew's big announcement.  Proposition 14 looms large over the Avenue and it's supporters have started to show up in the gayborhood.  Justin is a hit at the art show and his work is "exquisite"! A tuna macaroni counseling session sends Brian on a mission to make amends with Michael.  Lindsay and Melanie have a discussion about their in-house separation.  It's very heated!

5×10 I Was So F’ing Scared We don't even know where to start.  This episode was heartbreaking and heartfelt and sobering and beautiful.  There are really not enough words to cover it all.  Everyone is dealing with the decisions they've made over the last few episodes, but convictions and priorities are shifted in an instant.  Don't worry, this episode isn't JUST tears and heavy sighing - it wouldn't be LDD without some laughter and nonsense!  Expect the emotions and commentary to be all over the place.  Also, we feel compelled to say be good to yourselves and to each other.  We are probably still crying.

CONTENT WARNING: This episode deals with the tragedy left in the wake of a hate-crime committed at an LGBTQ+ event.  Please skip this one if you need to.

Roe v. Wade v. Same-sex Relationships This month we are continuing the celebrations of Pride Month, as we uplift LGBTQ stories. Today, I, Kendra Arsenault, engage with Spiritual Care Provider Roxan Del Valle to discuss the impact of the overturn of Roe v. Wade on us women along with the impacts this decision has on trans and non-binary lives. We also discuss how this decision is relevant to queer history. This weekend, I am sharing a presentation on same-gender lesbian relationships in the 1800s and discovering how much society has changed as well as how much it hasn’t.

Look what the cat dragged in: is the world ready for a more feline James Bond? More than shifting his gender or sexual orientation, surely the boldest way to reinvent Bond would be to make him care for something other than himself. A cat, perhaps? After looking back over 70 years of books and films, I’m convinced the idea has legs (four of them).

2022-07-06 Boys and Oil Jonny interviews author Taylor Brorby about his memoir, "Boys and Oil," which explores his life growing up gay on the plains of North Dakota and becoming, among other things, an environmental advocate for those fragile ecosystems. In the back half of the show, Jonny reviews some of the ways the SCOTUS Dobbs decision is already being mobilized in anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and calls for language and gestures of unity rather than division in how we push back. On notice: the biological-determinism rhetoric of celebrities like Macy Gray and Bette Midler this week. Jonny also shares information about upcoming events of interest to the LGBTQ Community in Southern Illinois.Note: Apologies to Taylor Brorby for mispronouncing his name in the intro and not catching it until the show was uploaded for broadcast. I do better in the interview. (It's Brorby, not Brobry!)
2022-07-13 Disregarded Data Jonny reviews some data and scientific understanding about abortions that was disregarded or misrepresented in the SCOTUS Dobbs decision, with an assist from the podcast "Science Vs" (and a recommendation to check that podcast out!). In the back half of the show that shows many USAmericans are "cross-pressured" (holding seemingly contradictory beliefs) about LGBTQ nondiscrimination and trans rights.

Without Core Values, You Won’t Know What You Stand For or How to Live with Integrity Without values, it’s challenging to create a long-term life plan. If you don’t know what’s most important to you, you can’t make choices based on integrity. Values are the compass that keeps you on the path to accomplishing your most meaningful goals and dreams. When you know what’s essential and meaningful, you can skillfully respond with choices and actions that are in alignment with whom you want to be.What you can control are your choices. If you make decisions in accordance with your values, you’re creating a form of prediction that increases certainty and manages your stress response to difficult situations or environments. This acts as a reminder of whom you want to be at the moment.==========If you’re an LGBTQ+ creator, change-maker, or thought leader who is struggling with direction, priorities, and productivity, let’s meet for a conversation to discuss how you can accomplish your goals, create a life you love — and make a difference in the process.

What’s Wrong With Me? Here’s a Better Question to Ask Yourself. Self-talk that creates self-judgement, comparison, and shame is not self-empowering.It’s downright unhealthy and damaging to your self-esteem!If you’ve truly done something wrong you feel guilt about, own up to it. However, if you’re struggling with something not going to plan — for example, how to make more money, get a better job, or why your business isn’t growing — consider if you’re missing skills or knowledge.Ask yourself, “Am I ignorant or incompetent?”Ignorant = you don’t know somethingIncompetent = you’re lacking a skillThe difference between staying stuck where you are or overcoming adversity is whether you’re willfully ignorant and incompetent or consciously aware of what you don’t know and the skills you’re lacking.Admitting what you don’t know is the first step toward transformation and creating a better future. If you’re struggling, doubting yourself, or wondering “What’s wrong with me?”, let’s have a conversation.
Survivor (with Michael Roberts) [CONTENT WARNING: Sexual and emotional abuse; thoughts of suicide.]Michael tells how his local priest insinuated his way into the lives of his devout family, before manipulating and abusing him over many years, how he managed to break free, and the difficulties he found when trying to hold those responsible accountable. A heavy listen, a story of abused power, suffering at the hands of people who consider themselves above the law, and the institution that enabled them. You can find copies of Michael's book at a variety of booksellers worldwide (where possible, use one of the smaller, independent ones), or by going to https://www.behindsacredwalls.com/ If you've been the victim of similar abuse by a priest or other religious figure, you can contact SNAP at https://www.snapnetwork.org/, or if you're a survivor of sexual violence of any kind, there is help available from https://rapecrisis.org.uk/ in the UK, https://www.rainn.org/ in the USA, https://fullstop.org.au/ in Australia, or by searching for similar in your country. --Stories of queer life and even queer-er sex. In addition to pregnancy services including abortion, the clinic also provides gender-affirming hormone replacement therapy. In the back half of the show, Jonny interviews Jeff Keasler-Bird and Tara Bell about the upcoming production of "The Laramie Project, Ten Years Later" by The Stage Co. at The Varsity Theater in Carbondale, IL.
