What Does the Bible Say About What Christians Pray For #4? In this episode, Arnie and Fred talk about who we should pray for. Paul mentions rulers, officials and all men. We look at why this should be the case. A number of passages mention not only our nation but others also. Those passages are noted in our discussion. Again, Paul discusses prayer, and he focuses on not only churches in general, but also disciples. Various servants of the church have important responsibilities. Consequently, they need our prayers. We look at those servants and the various passages that mention them and the prayers they need from us. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying. There is a transcript provided of this Buzzsprout episode for your convenience.
What Does the Bible Say About What Christians Pray for #3? In this episode, Arnie and Fred begin by discussing praying for protection from evil. We look at a couple of passages where Jesus discusses this subject. Associated with that is being delivered from our enemies. We look at what David and Paul had to say on this. A request for peace should always be a part of our prayers to God. John and Paul address this subject. We note what they have to say. A petition for God's mercy is mentioned by both the Hebrew writer and one of the examples Jesus gave for prayer. We looked at both of those instances. One of the things that Jesus promised was eternal life for His faithful disciples. We note the importance of this in our prayers to our Father in heaven. Another aspect of good prayers is to remember the needs of others and to include them in our petitions. Good leaders are a necessity both in the church and in our civil government and prayers for the same are always justified. We close out this episode by looking at the prayer Abraham's servant offered when looking for a wife for Isaac. God's providence was evident in that situation. A lesson to be learned by us from that. Praying for our children is always an important consideration as well. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying. There is a transcript of this Buzzsprout episode provided for your convenience.
What Does the Bible Say About What Christians Pray For #2? In this episode, Arnie and Fred talk about various other prayers Christians are to ask. Thankfulness to God for all that He has done for us ought to be expressed to God. We look at what Paul said about this. Again, we look at something that Paul said about praying for the success of the gospel. Boldness in teaching the truth comes up for discussion. Several passages from Paul are looked at. Jesus discusses the need for more workers. We look at what He said about that. Wisdom is something that James discusses, and he says asking for it in prayer is something we ought to do. We talk about that and look at a couple of Old Testament passages that mention it. We close this episode by noting what Paul said about safe travel. Take about 30 – minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying. There is a transcript provided of this Buzzsprout episode for your convenience.
What Does the Bible Say About What Christians Pray For? In this episode, Arnie and Fred begin a discussion about what Christians pray. We note what Jesus and John said about prayer. On one occasion, Jesus' disciples asked Him to teach them to pray. We look at the model prayer that He provided to them and note each part of that prayer. Jesus mentioned holding God in reverence and the fact that so many do not do that. Jesus mentions the kingdom and we discuss how that relates to today's Christians. Jesus prayed to God the night before He was crucified. We note what He said at that most difficult time in His life. The necessities of life are mentioned also. We talk about that aspect of our prayers. Forgiveness of sins is next. We look at David's prayer to God after he had sinned in the matter with Bathsheba. Temptation and deliverance from evil is mentioned by Jesus. We discuss what Paul said about this. and what we should do. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying. There is a transcript provided of this Buzzsprout episode for your convenience.
What Does the Bible Say About What Repentance Involves #2? Fred Gosnell: 0:00
This is a presentation of the Woodland church of Christ meeting at 3370 Broad Street in Sumter, South Carolina. We meet for worship on Sunday at ten thirty am and five thirty pm. We meet for bible study at nine thirty am on Sunday, and seven pm on Wednesday. If you have questions or comments on this lesson, you may email them to Fred Gosnell at [email protected] Or to Granke at [email protected].

Arnie: 0:34
Good afternoon. This is Arnie Granke and Fred Gosnell and this is what does the Bible say, brought to you by the church of Christ an Woodland in Sumter South Carolina, we hope that you'll visit with us if you happen to be in the Sumter area. If you happen to live here, why, by all means, we're glad to have you listening in and we hope that that you'll listen with us every Lord's day at the same time. Fred and I have been talking about, about the subject of repentance and thinking in in terms of part of the problem of sin. One of the things that we've noted is that all sin is an offense against God. And there's no such thing as a victimless crime. And it doesn't happen to be a human victim involved in the sin, then God is the victim anyway, still would be even if there were a human, a human victim. And that transgression of God's law is is what, what makes something a, a sin. So So Fred, where do we where do we need to pick up at this particular point?

Fred Gosnell: 1:56
Well, Paul writes to the Romans in Romans six, and he, he talks about them being dead in sin and then what they needed to do about it. And he begins in Romans six, verse 11, through 14, says in verse 11, Likewise, you also consider yourselves to be dead indeed, to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Therefore, do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in the lusts, in its lusts.

If you have questions or comments on this lesson, you may email them to Fred Gosnell at [email protected] Or to Arnie Granke at [email protected].

Arnie: 0:34
Good afternoon. This is Arnie Granke and Fred Gosnell. And this is what those the Bible say that's brought to you by the church of Christ at Woodland, in Sumter, South Carolina. Fred and I are both members of of that congregation. And we hope that if you ever happen to be in the Sumter area that you'll drop in and visit with us on the Lord's Day or on Wednesday evenings when we meet for, for Bible classes. Fred'll give you the times and and all of that and the events there. And you will have already heard those if you're listening to this to this discussion. Fred, I'm looking at Second Corinthians seven and and verse eight, where where Paul said, For even if I made you sorry, with my letter, I do not regret it, though I did regret it. For I perceive that the same epistle made you sorry, though only for a while. Now I rejoice not that you were made sorry, but that you your sorrow led to repentance, for you are made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted. But the sorrow of the world produces death. I don't recall us discussing repentance if we have it's been a long time ago.

Fred Gosnell: 2:15
I think you're right.

Arnie: 2:17
What do you say we talk about that a little bit.

Fred Gosnell: 2:19
Okay,

Arnie: 2:20
Why don't you give us a little bit of an of an idea of what Repentance involves?

Fred Gosnell: 2:24
Okay. Well, Paul, evidently saw it necessary to talk about it. Of course, this is his second letter to the brethren there at Corinth. Course the first letter, if we go back and read the first letter, we can find out a lot of the problems they had. So, so he, he talks about repentance, and then he talks about godly sorrow. That's not repentance in and of itself. Godly sorrow, he says, leads to repentance. Of course, he talks about the sorrow of the world. You know, people sometimes are sorry for the things that they do. But later on, they'll do the same thing again.

Arnie: 3:01
Maybe maybe because they don't like the outcome. And and so they're sorrowful for that reason. Yeah, things didn't come out as they hoped that they would, yeah,

Fred Gosnell: 3:10
There's al, there's always consequences. And of course, we can't always know what the consequences are or how bad they're gonna be. So anyway, according to Paul, godly sorrow, produces repentance. Of course, repentance. That's a moral decision. That's something that an individual decides to do, because of his behavior.
What Does the Bible Say About the Prophecies About Jesus? Arnie and Fred begin this episode by looking at the prophecy concerning Jesus' virgin birth which was recorded by Isaiah and the specifics there. Matthew refers to this prophecy and we look at what he says. We then move to the first prophecy about Jesus which is found in Genesis. We note the promise that God gave to both Abraham and David. The time of Jesus birth was originally prophesied by Daniel during the rule of Cyrus. We talk about how specific Daniel was by looking at what he wrote. The place of Jesus birth was revealed originally by Micah. We discuss what he said as well as Luke's notice of it. The sad occasion of Herod killing all the infants in Bethlehem was prophesied by Jeremiah. We look at what he said and Matthew's record of what happened. Isaiah foretold of Jesus' ministry of teaching and preaching throughout Israel. We look at several places where Matthew records the fulfillment of what Isaiah wrote. David wrote of Jesus' crucifixion in specific terms. We read about that. We run out of time for this episode and are only able to give you the scriptures that prophesy of Jesus crucifixion, resurrection and ascension. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying.
What Does the Bible Say About Jesus' Ascension, Reign and Deity? In this 30-minute episode, Arnie and Fred discuss Jesus' ascension, reign and deity. We note the prophecies concerning His ascension as well as those who witnessed it. His reign was also prophesied and we look at those passages. We note that Peter on the day of Pentecost declared Jesus to be on David's throne on that day. We talk about what he said. We complete this episode by discussing what is said about Jesus being God and those who made that declaration. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our conversation. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying.
What Does the Bible Say About the Witnesses of Jesus' Resurrection? In this 30-minute episode, Arnie and Fred discuss the many witnesses who saw Jesus after His resurrection. This was the most important occasion recorded in the Bible. Jesus' resurrection which He predicted before He was crucified confirmed everything that He said. Ultimately, it confirms everything recorded in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation for Jesus is discussed in Old Testament prophecies and in the books of the New Testament. Among the witnesses were the soldiers who guarded His tomb. Peter and John who went into the empty tomb on resurrection day. Cleopas and another disciple saw Jesus on the road to Emmaus. Eleven apostles including Thomas were with Jesus a week later. Two disciples chosen, one of which replaced Judas were witnesses. More than 500 at one times saw Jesus after He was resurrected. Finally, Paul saw Him on the road to Damascus, the last individual to do so. We examine all of these occasions. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying.
What Does the Bible Say About Jesus' Trials and Crucifixion? In this episode, Arnie and Fred discuss Jesus' trials and crucifixion. We begin by looking at the false trials the Jews had designed to show Jesus had profaned God, Moses Law, and the Temple. We look at the perjury and false witnesses that were involved. We talk about the two trials where Jesus appeared before Pilate. Then we look at the trial where Jesus appeared before Herod Antipas who was the Tetrarch of Galilee. Finally, we discuss Jesus' crucifixion on Golgotha which in the Hebrew means "skull place". Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying.
What Does the Bible Say About Jesus' Transfiguration and Miracles? Arnie and Fred begin this episode by discussing Jesus' transfiguration. He took Peter, James and John with Him to a high mountain. There He spoke with Moses and Elijah. We talk about the reaction of the apostles and what God said to them. We point out that all accounts note that Jesus' countenance was changed, and God's statement was the same in all of them. We move on to a discussion of some of the miracles that Jesus performed including when He raised a widow's son from the dead. There were actually more than 50 of Jesus' miracles recorded by the New Testament writers. We complete this episode by discussing the importance of these miracles. Take about 30 minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying.
What Does the Bible Say About Jesus' Birth and Baptism? In this episode, Arnie and Fred talk about Jesus' birth and baptism. We note that He was born of a virgin and that fact was prophesied by Isaiah hundreds of years previously. We talk about why Joseph and Mary were in Bethlehem where Jesus was born. We next look at what was said about His baptism and why that was necessary. All four gospels record this, and all the accounts agree. We discuss John the baptizer's important role in this and what he had to say about it. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying.
What Does the Bible Say About Responsible Christians #3? Arnie and Fred pick up this subject from our last discussion by continuing to talk about self-control. In particular, control of the tongue is a good gauge of one's progress here. One must avoid lying, gossip and profanity. We look at the use of euphemisms that many are unaware of their meanings. We talk about speaking harshly and disrespectfully to others as an indication of a lack of self-control. Self-control is as important to Christians as to an athlete in training. We move on to the need to maintain one's humility. It is also a requirement for one to be an elder. Saints are to develop this quality, so they will respect them and be willing to submit to their leadership, We look at an Old Testament example where young people lacked the necessary humility and respect for their elders that led to serious problems for Israel. We conclude by discussing the fact that there will be a judgment that all Christians will face by the Lord. We will have to give an account of our actions, both good and bad. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying.
What Does the Bible Say About Responsible Christians #2 Arnie and Fred continue their discussion of responsible Christians. We begin by looking at the Christian's stewardship of the resources that are available. We discuss how our giving can be an indicator of our stewardship. We talk about elders and their wives and the fact that every Christian should develop the teaching ability and other qualities necessary to serve in both of those capacities. We note that the good stewardship of our time that is needed for our diligent study that is necessary for our spiritual development. A lack of this effort contributes to the dearth of qualified elders, deacons and teachers in the local church. We discuss the family guidance needed to develop the next generation of leaders in the church. The home is the training ground for these individuals and each Christian in the family has a great responsibility to contribute to this effort. We end this episode by beginning to discuss the development of self-control. One's words and deeds are windows into one's soul. We will have to wait until the next episode to complete this discussion. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy to verify what we are saying.
What Does the Bible Say About Responsible Christians? In this episode, Arnie and Fred begin by discussing the Parable of the Talents as it applies to Christians. We note that the New Testament lists certain qualifications for elders and deacons in the Lord's church that are a good guide as to some of our responsibilities. We talk about how much responsibility I as a Christian have. We note a formula that may be used to determine this. We look at the capacities and resources one might have. We talk about some of the specific responsibilities we have. To finish this subject, we'll have to address it in the next episode.
What Does the Bible Say About Our Example? A 30-minute discussion of what the Bible says about our example that we display to others who can see our actions daily. Arnie and Fred discuss what Paul said to the Corinthian Christians about what they should avoid doing and why. We look at some good examples that were displayed by Christ and some faithful ones in the New Testament. On the other hand, we talk about a number of passages in both the Old and New Testaments about the bad effects that bad examples cause. We close out this episode by noting how my example can affect other people as well as my marriage partner. Take some time to listen to our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying.

What Does the Bible Say About A Fathers Role 2? Arnie and Fred begin a second 30-minute discussion of the role of fathers based on what the Bible says. We begin this second episode by talking about the father's responsibility to correct his children. We note that it is never good to wait too long before the correction is given. We note that it must not be harsh, arbitrary or unfair. Correction that is given properly and lovingly, will produce the best results. A father is to give his children encouragement. This is essential especially today to reinforce appreciation and value for the importance of the gender the child was born with. Fathers provide the example of strong leadership. They provide the leadership necessary to guide them. Fathers provide the security and sense of wellbeing for their children and the necessary authority figure in the family. Boys need a strong father image to emulate. Girls need a Daddy to learn to love, practice femininity, learn what to expect from men, learn biblical subjection and to have a pattern for selecting a husband. Fathers are to be spiritual guides for their family along with their wives. Fathers are responsible to provide the family with the physical necessities as well. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying.
What Does the Bible Say About A Father's Role? On this Father's Day, Arnie and Fred discuss what the Bible says about a father's role. We note that the scriptures often liken God to our earthly fathers. Consequently, the better we understand what God intended fathers to be, the better we can understand our relationship with God. We talk about the love a father is to have for his children and the enjoyment he is to have with them. A father is to be sympathetic to his children. He has responsibility to teach his children both practical and spiritual lessons. A father provides the authority figure in the home and corrects his children in a loving and fair way. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying.
What Does the Bible Say About Being Unspotted from the World #3? In this third episode, Arnie and Fred discuss whether we can make minor concessions in our speech by excusing some lying, some profanity, perhaps some vulgarity or blasphemy. Is it ok to use some euphemisms or tell some off-color jokes. Is it OK to tolerate a little cheating or petty theft? Do we do a little of that with office supplies at our work? Is that OK? We move on to a discussion of various forms of immorality. Is a little bit, OK? Do we give a wink or a nod toward other's lustful words or deeds. What about the books we read, the music we listen to, or the movies we watch? Is a little portrayal of sex or lust OK to watch? We discuss what the world can do to us if we aren't paying attention. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your bible handy so you can verify what we are saying.
What Does the Bible Say About Being Unspotted From the World #2? In this 2nd episode, Arnie and Fred discuss what the Bible says about the Christian being unspotted from the world. We begin by noting that Satan has been defeated by Christ who is the Victor. But Satan, the Adversary, is still able to capture victims who he is able to deceive with his lies. We note that there can be no compromise with Satan's world. We talk about what that means. We also note how gradual compromise can be and why this is a big problem for the Christian. We look at two Bible examples of people who did not compromise when they had the opportunity to do so. Take about 30-minutes to listen in n our discussion. Have your Bible handy s you can verify what we are saying.
What Does the Bible Say About Being Unspotted from the World? A 30-minute discussion of what it means to be unspotted by the world. Arnie and Fred begin by noting that the Christian is said to be "in the world", but not "of the world". We look at some of the differences between the world and faithful saints. We talk about the fact that followers of Christ are not just different from the world, they are opposite from it. We note the nature of the conflict between the world and its prince and Christ and His followers. Take some time to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying.
What Does the Bible Say About What Hinders Prayer #6? In this sixth episode on what hinders prayer, Arnie and Fred begin by asking, Am I Temperate? Peter and Paul both write about this need, and we look at those passages. We ask three questions that we can use in our self-examination of ourselves on this subject. We close this episode out with the question, Am I thankful? Both Paul and the Hebrew writer mention this need. We discuss those passages. We conclude this episode with four questions we can use in our self-examination. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying.
What Does the Bible Say About What Hinders Prayer #7? In this last 30-minute episode on what hinders prayer, Arnie and Fred begin by asking, Am I Reliable? We look at one passage in Hebrews and three in the Psalms that discuss the need for Christians to be reliable in their service to God. We present five questions that we can use in examining ourselves as to our reliability in serving God. We note that a lack of reliability will certainly affect our prayers. We next ask the question, Am I Pure? James, John, Paul, and Jude all note this requirement. We ask three questions for use in a self-examination of this subject. Finally, we ask, Am I consistent? Jesus and Paul note the need for consistency. We look at those passages. We close this episode out with three questions and the conclusion, that it is a blessed assurance that God will hear and answer the prayers of faithful disciples.
What Does The Bible Say About What Hinders Prayer #5? In this fifth episode on what hinders prayer, Arnie and Fred begin by asking if I Am Self-Centered? Paul and James both discuss this problem that can affect our prayers. We ask and discuss several questions we can use in examining ourselves on this important characteristic. We continue by asking, Am I worldly? We discuss what Jesus and several of the inspired writers said about worldliness. Again, we ask and discuss a number of questions that one can use to determine if worldliness is something that hinders one's prayers. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying.
What Does the Bible Say About What Hinders Prayer #4 Arnie and Fred continue their discussion of what can hinder our prayers. In this episode, we begin by asking the question, Am I Covetous? There are several passages that mention covetousness as a problem for the Christian. We note them. Jesus mentions riches that one may allow to affect one's behavior. Related to this, we ask, Am I greedy? We look at passages that mention this problem and note how this may very well affect our prayers to God. Take about 30 minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying.
What Does the Bible Say About What Hinders Prayer #3? In this episode, Arnie and Fred continue their discussion about what hinders prayer. We discuss several questions that one can ask in one's self-examination. First, Am I truthful? And second, Am I vulgar? Take about 30-minutes to listen in.

Informed Consent with Del Bigtree Del Bigtree is one of the preeminent voices of the vaccine risk awareness movement around the world. He is the founder of the non-profit, Informed Consent Action Network, and host of a rapidly growing internet talk show The HighWire, boasting over 33 million views to date. Del’s multi-pronged approach incorporates legal, legislative, and media actions to expose the fraud, lies, and conflicts of interest that have allowed the pharmaceutical industry to evade standardized safety testing for vaccines. This collusion between government agencies and the pharmaceutical industry, now the most powerful lobby in Washington, has led to a dramatic increase in vaccine injuries, estimated to be as high as 5.9 million cases per year in the US alone. Despite mainstream media sources such as the New York Times and Washington Post blame so-called “Anti-Vaxxers” for the growing trend of vaccine hesitancy, Del has focused the spotlight on the real issue – the shocking lack of credible vaccine science. A Cruciform Life: Resurrection Life – Apr 9, 2023 This Easter Sunday, we carry on our "A Cruciform Life" series by seeing how knowing our resurrected King impacts the outlook and direction of our resurrected lives. Let us prepare for the anticipation of Easter Sunday by reflecting on John 11:25, where Jesus said to Mary, “I am the resurrection and the life. This Week's Scripture:
// John 11:38-43 //
So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.”
When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”
A Cruciform Life: Follow Up with Q&A – Apr 16, 2023 As we work to wrap out our series, "A Cruciform Life," we will conclude by looking at some of the questions that some of you have had after going through the series with us. As we prepare our hearts to receive from the service, let us be reminded of John 1:18, which says, "No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known."

Surrender Andrew talks about what it looks like to surrender to Jesus.
The Power of Forgiveness and Letting Go of Anger On this episode of "Let's Talk Purity," Richard and Brittni tackle the power of forgiveness, exploring Jesus' transformational words on the cross, and why we must persevere and forgive others — even those who are unapologetic. After mentioning Christ's stunning act of forgiveness during his crucifixion when he told the Lord of his mockers and murderers, "Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do,"  Richard explained why grace is so essential.  "Without forgiveness, we wouldn't see a resurrection," he said. "A lot of us, we want to see a resurrection, we want to see God revive and restore things in our life, but are we willing to forgive? And I truly believe that forgiveness and resurrection go hand-in-hand."He added the ramifications of not forgiving are potentially sweeping and can hamper us. "If we are going to see God use us in a mighty way, then we have to be able to be quick to forgive," Richard said. "And I think that's so hard for people." Brittni added another important detail: sometimes, people don't realize the full scope of their negative actions. "People are always aware of their actions, but they're not aware of what it's actually doing to themselves or others," she said, pointing back to her own past as a porn star before coming to the Lord. "I didn't realize that I was living a life of sin, that I was leading people into sin."Brittni added, "We've got to be the type of people that can forgive and understand that, if they truly understood what they were doing, they woudn't be doing it."The couple explained the importance of finding peace and letting go of unforgiveness.  "When you hold onto unforgiveness you're going to … harbor pain," Richard said. Hypocrisy – Lying with our Lives “Half of the misery in the world comes from trying to look, instead of trying to be, what one is not.” – George McDonald One of the most damaging and deceitful lies we tell, is when we lie with our lives. On Sunday we were challenged from the Bible account of Ananias and Sapphira. This strict lesson should remind us to focus more on internally being right with God, more than simply externally looking right with God.

Broken | Jesus Inside Out | Rich Greene We are all broken and in need of wholeness. Jesus offers a way toward wholeness that is counter-intuitive and often against our instincts. Wholeness only comes through the door marked, "broken."

Series Description
God often works from the inside out. He has great designs for our life but must change us first before he can work through us. This change is often frustrating, slow, and painful. But when Jesus works from the inside out, the end result is better than we could have ever imagined.
