later this week, Leader McCarthy said he will not support the plan because of quote, political misdirection that has marred the process and its narrow focus on the capital riot. He issued a lengthy statement days after the top democrat and republican on the House Homeland Security Committee announced legislation modeled on the commission created after the september 11 2000 and one attacks. The bipartisan commission would have subpoena power, but leader McCarthy and other republicans have said they want the commission's focus broadened to include other violent incidents. The plan is expected to pass in the House later this week, but its fate in the Senate is unclear. Cloudy drizzly NPR news Washington. A new CDC report out today shows a greater number and a greater share of U. S. Adults are getting vaccinated in cities compared with rural America. NPR's Kirk Siegler reports. Health experts say that's concerning because world americans have been considered more at risk for covid 19 to the Health Disparities CDC data compiled up to last month show that vaccination rates were about 8 to 10% lower in rural counties compared with urban areas. The study noted that some of that gap may be due to logistics. Sometimes rural americans have to drive outside of their home county to get a shot while city dwellers may have appointments available closer. Still, the C. D. C. Says it's overall findings about continued rural vaccine. Hesitancy are troubling throughout the pandemic. Rural americans have tended to be at a much higher per capita risk of death or serious symptoms if they contract the virus. The CDC study comes as the biden administration is pumping tens of millions of dollars into vaccination, outreach efforts at rural clinics and hospitals, Kirk Siegler NPR News Boise Washington governor jay inslee assigned a package of police reform bills into law. They include a ban on chokeholds and no knock warrants. Northwest News Network's Austin Jenkins has more. The suite of new laws runs the gamut from limiting the tactics officers use in the field to changing how deadly force incidents are investigated. Other measures require police officers to prioritize de escalation and make it easier to decertify an officer for misconduct taken together. Governor inslee says the new laws will have a major impact on police conduct. These bills are all going to work in coordination with one another to create a system of accountability and integrity stronger than anywhere else in the nation. Washington is one of several states that have passed police reform measures since the 2020 killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis for NPR News. The bank raised wages last year to $20 an hour and something that motivated the company to raise pay again is competition for Talent Bank of America is the fourth largest bank in the United States. It has almost 100 and 75,000 employees. The bank's new policy also affects thousands of companies with which Bank of America has contracts from now on. It's US vendors will have to pay employees who work with the bank at least $15 per hour. The federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. That's what it's been for almost 12 years. President biden has called on Congress to increase it to 15. David Gura, NPR News U. S. Homebuilding declined by surprising 9.5% in april with many analysts attributing the fall in part, the facts, surging lumber prices and other supply constraints admit it difficult for builders.
