the era of expertise is as it relates toe mental toughness. Eso what is mental toughness? Because, you know, But like a man, no Florida, because we we are really strong and healthy masculinity. A lot of men has a perception about what mental toughness is. Society dictates that there's a certain form of mental toughness. That should be What? What are you saying? Tell us about this mental toughness. What is that? Yes, great. Great point. Great question. Ah, lot of people have heard about resilience. Not a lot of people are familiar with mental toughness unless they may be watching sports, and they will hear the sports commentator to talk about it. But resilience is bouncing back from mental toughness is thriving through Wow. So our working definition for mental toughness, therefore, is the ability to perform consistently and productively on the pressure. Hmm. And we are always performing whenever you're doing a task you're performing. It doesn't have to be in sports if you get up to speak somewhere you're performing. If you get a job, if you're on the job, you're performing. That's why companies have performance. Evaluations were always performing. We always engage in activity of one off some sort. And as we engage in those activities, we're going to experience a certain amount of pressure, a certain amount of resistance, a certain amount of stress. But what mental toughness does is that it provides you with the ability to perform. And here's the deal consistently. Consistency is key in succeeding in life. It means that every single day you're doing the thing and you get it. You're making progress. You're moving the ball further upfield, so to speak, even on the pressure situation, even on the difficult conditions on. You know, Floyd, Right now, I I what you're saying there it sounds so, so loaded, man, because you said there's a difference between resilience and mental toughness. You know what you said is mental resilience is making it. Can you repeat that resilience is making it So resilience is bouncing back from Something happens. You fell off the wagon when you get back on that Z resilience bouncing. Now, mental toughness is thriving through We're feeling the pressure. What we're going anyway. It is not that you're gonna kill yourself. It's all about You know what? I have the capacity to move forward because Here's the deal. Uh, now what is stress? Stress is stress, of course. When demand is greater than capacity, eso people feel stressed. A mentally tough person is a person who has a greater capacity. Don't handle stress. Mm hmm. And to push through stress and they're thriving in the process is not that their existing you're thriving in the process. Wow. Wow. Wow, that's man, that that's definitely ah, powerful thing to know, you know, so thriving through, You know, you're in it and you're you're making the best office you're using that time to grow up to become the best version of yourself. That is powerful. So now how can men How can men How can meant mental toughness? Have men become their best? Because, you know, I'll Floyd really look at this past year in Canada. You know, 3000 men are committing suicide each year. I'm not sure what is going to be for 2020 because the panda may go wasn't has been a chaotic experience. You know, more relationships ended. More men lost their jobs. It's just been chaotic. And I don't know what's that starts candidate is going to come out with for for 2020. But how can mental toughness help men become their best? Especially during this pandemic? Yeah, yeah, these are These are unprecedented times. It's tough, it's tough. Mental health for a lot of people is really at an all time low. And for men, Ah, lot of men have been called upon. Most of us has been We have been called upon to leave and leading old families laid in our churches, uh, leading in certain offices. And so that's added stress and added pressure. Uh huh. And so mental toughness, maybe, maybe the way out. And so how? How can men utilize or leverage this concept or leverage mental toughness? Thio to grow and be better now. First of all, I want to say this mental toughness is not is not being macho, that that's not I. What do you mean? Because I I know that I'm a tough guy. What do you mean? It's not the macho that that's supposed to be. I'm a man that's supposed to be what I do, right? Onda. And so what do you mean? So it's not about it's not about being void of emotions, you know, some people big men don't cry. That's not what this is about. Okay, Okay. And there are there a professor Peter Cloth, professor of Applied Psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University. E. He did some research and he came up with what he called the four seas off mental toughness. Mm. And we can measure mental toughness by through an assessment called the empty Q plus so we can measure people's mental toughness on four scales. The four seas of mental toughness. And here here are the four seas number one control Mentally tough people they feel, and they believe that they control their destiny is not in the hands of the politician, is not in the hands of somebody else. It's in their hands. If you're a believer, it's you and God gonna work this out, right? So the first seize control. The second C is commitment mental. It's off, people. They're committed to task. If they say they're going to do something, they're going to do it. Here's the other thing. Mentally tough people. They see challenge as a non opportunity and not as a threat. Mm. Okay. And then the fourth c is confidence Mentally tough. They have confidence in themselves. and they believe that they can do the job when you're calling upon now we can break those down. Ah, further if you if you so desire. But these are the forces control, commitment, challenge and confidence, Mentally tough person and a male into the today's society and Canada going through what you're going through if they can work on controlling your lives, seeing themselves as being in charge, if they can be committed to stick to the task that they have decided they're going to do if they can see challenge as opportunities are not as threat, irrespective of what's happening. And if they are confident in their abilities and they have this belief that they can make it, then I guarantee you they're gonna thrive on the pressure man. You know something for I can tell you that. You know, these foresees one they they're hard for for a lot of guys, you know, a lot of men now, uh, you know, you're talking about men on if I can speak, you know, I work with a lot of men who are who are in recovery, for example, men who are struggling with substances. Uh, how does he get that control. You know, it's not that they're not committed. They are. But then, you know life happens and they lose control. Ondo, when challenges come Ah, lot of persons, uh, they don't see challenges apart.
