but I had. So it was right when I first started knitting in earnest. You know, two years ago and I had made a hat for myself and I had bought this really nice, beautiful yarn that was, I think it was all alpaca, and it was a really fine lace weight yard. Let's wait like, yeah, so there's all different kinds of weights of yarn in Esso, like Sack Way is really small. And then that's kind of like the thinner yarn that you're going to meet with a sock way laced Wait and then it goes upto Wait, What's thinner laced waiter Sock weight? Well, they're kind of the same because, like, sack, what you're going to knit with really small needles, and you're going to get that tighter fabric like your socks are. But when you knit lace, you need them on bigger needles, and you got a bunch of holes and it, you know, makes a lace pattern depending on where you put the holes and increases and decreases. And like you as an early knitter is like lace weight sounded good and it was expensive and nice. Yeah, I didn't know. I didn't understand what it was. So I used bigger needles and it just it, um And it up and like, had a really drapey slouchy hat, which is what I was going for. And I think I totally just happened. Stance made the hat that I wanted on accident. And it was a little bit of beginner's luck. And it is too big, like it falls off my head. Sometimes I'm like, Oh, it's slouchy, It's cool. Whatever. So then I'm like, Yeah, I'm gonna make this other hat for my friend And I got a regular like worsted weight and worse. Yeah, worsted weight is probably what you think of when you think of generic craft yard like the yarn that you know 1st and 2nd graders have when in their craft box in school like that's gonna be worsted weight. Um, and so and a lot of like your Beanie just kind of classic thicker Beanie hats are made from a worsted weight. So I got just like a simple gray worsted weight yarn, and I'm like, Oh, I'm gonna now make this hat for my buddy And you know, he's a guy. It could be bigger, whatever. And I didn't dio any kind of gauge Swatch because I didn't even know what that waas. I don't know what that is, either. What's a gauge? Swatch eso A gauge swatch is when you you'll just, uh, knit up a square using the needles you want to use and they aren't you want to use in preferably part of the pattern. So, you know, I wanted to make a hat with a rib and then just plain stocking that niche knit stitch and stock and net stocking it all one word stocking it. Okay, that's like the classic, All these on one side, all bars on the other side, classic names like, um, so I should have done a gauge swatch where I kind of tested just a small square to see like, Oh, then I can measure for inch by inch. You know, there's so many rows and columns like, yeah, rows and stitches per inch. And then I can guess how many stitches you need around the hat. So I didn't even do that. I just cast on a bunch of stitches, probably about the same as I did the really find it and, you know, it looked just on the needles just to cast on They they're kind of tight. And the way I was doing it because I was new there, clump together. And so I thought, This looks about right. And so I started to do a two by two rib for the brim of the hat, and that's just a rib is, you know? Net. Net. Pearl Pearl Net Net. Pearl Pearl Net Net purple And that's where you get ribbing. So I started that, and as unit on it, it was expanding in, like just getting huge. I'm like, Oh, my gosh, this is probably three or four times the size that had should be. So I had it, um, on a circular needles and it's all kind of bunched up so you can't just try it on. All the stitches would have fallen off the needle, so I just kept knitting. I think I did like 12 inches of this ribbing and just decided it was a Calvin, and I've worn it a couple times. But that was my first attempt Thio and a half for at
