to write in reality is far more freedom. The kids of today I grew up with far more freedom than we ever did. Far more freedom, perhaps too much freedom. But what we had never crossed my mind to go out on a demonstration. The demonstrations with the A thing you see, I'm sorry where the miners were striking and people marching down streets with banners for the trade unions, etcetera, etcetera. They were the only real demonstrations I saw. And that was sort of very left wing audience. Hated, really. But as you get older, you realize now these people, we're having their their their livelihoods closed down because the mine was closed in etcetera and things like that, and they will get no compensation for nobody was trying to work out. They can bring work back to the area so I can fully understand it being an old bugger that I am now. But at the time, all like to see was TV screens full of mobs attacking policemen, policemen attacking mobs. Um, it was very different in those days. Very different. Okay, um, in Spain at the moment, people from the age of six and older have the obligation to wear masks on public streets, in outdoor spaces and in any close space that has a public use or is open to the public. This is the bulletin that was published last Tuesday. Until now or that time. The coverings were only mandatory in public and outdoor spaces when it was not possible, uh, to keep a distance of 1.5 m or more between people. These rules were part of a decree issued by the government in June 2020 when the state of alarm ended and a three month lockdown was lifted. On Tuesday afternoon of last week, the government updated its information website to reflect the fact that masks are now to be used always in the settings mentioned now, especially when there is no safe distance. But you know what is very confusing is if you switch TV and don't watch completely and become brainwashed by the Spanish system of television, although you're being told is to get outside because the the covid germs, if you like, will dissipate in the fresh air. So I mean, that's another mixed message very quickly, isn't it? Well, not really, but it doesn't really work that way, does it? In fact, if you're in enclosed room and you're breathing in the air of the people that are in that room But if there is any covid in there, then that covid is on settling on surfaces within that room. Whereas if you're with the same people but outside in the fresh air, a little bit of a breeze going around the dissipates and dilutes very quickly and doesn't become a contagious so contagious. Okay, I I think I find it rather strange to see two people in the middle of nowhere wearing masks. I find it difficult to people I agree entirely, but they got to draw a line somewhere. Well, okay, Terry, but, I mean, when are we going to get back to some common sense? It's almost like these pale faced people that come out and don't know. They don't know all the answers, because basically, I don't think anybody knows all the answers, but don't come out and pontificate that you do, because that's absolute hypocrisy. Especially when we then see pictures of you going off surfing or going off to the beach somewhere else. Um, as we thought, we've all seen of these politicians who come and tell us what to do. That's what I find difficult. Yeah, well, the bottom line is that the hospital has seemed to have found masks a very efficient why of stopping transmission of germs and bacteria. But that's indoors. You're on the wrong end of the surgeon's scalpel. You'll be surrounded by people with masks. There's a reason for that, Vince, but that's indoors. Terry Terry, that's indoors. I don't really have a problem with indoors, but if some people on some TV stations are saying, go outside, make sure you're in the fresh air, get away from the inside, go and enjoy fresh air and then, you know, if you look at what people are doing here in Spain, when they've got fresher, it doesn't really seem to give you a complete message. It seems to be some people are doing one thing. Some people are saying one thing other people are telling. Well, let's go back to the, uh the you're missing the point. All you have to do if you're out in the fresh air and you find that you have to wear a mask anyway, make sure you got a cigarette in front of you, be a video or C a drink at a local bar, and then you can. Of course, you can converse to your heart's content with that. Yeah, but that's not ridiculous. Well, exactly. That's exactly what, what, the whole reason why I feel so, so confused and annoyed by it, because these things are not very cleverly written or, uh, sort of mandated at the moment. Until now, regional governments were free to adapt these rules as they saw fit, and many did so immediately after they came off the regulations, and some regions made masks mandatory at all times. Put introduced exceptions for certain situations, such as going to the beach. But under the newly published law, which replaces the June decree, regional governments may no longer introduced changes. Instead, everyone is bound by the same regulations, which make masks mandatory at all times, including at the beach or the local swimming pool. And even when there is a safe distance between people, the move could further harm the tourism industry, which has been dragged down by a year of coronavirus pandemic. And it's not just the face Max masks, which will look at in a minute. I mean, the the the difficult thing to understand is when I've got and you will have your residents somebody that come from Germany, far worse conditions with the covid that we read in the papers, they can come down. We've been under lock and key for nearly well for a year now. We can't really have our family coming into our own houses from our own community. And yet they can come across the borders and do what they like. And they can fly in from other parts of the of the world seemingly with no problem unless they're a specified country. I mean, this is just it's all made up as they go along. That is absolutely I'm on the road every day, and I promise you, this traffic they used have been really busy. Nowhere near as busy as it normally is. Normally there's certain but next life to try and avoid. But a few days coming into outside along the coast road. Uh, there were many large queues reminiscent of summer and like Easter periods that we normally have, and an awful lot of French Belgian German vehicles, Italian vehicles here as well and going around the different establishments. You certainly here a broad exchange of languages. But it's Yeah, it really, really, seriously pays me off that that is happening. Whereas, for instance, uh, we can't move outside of the boundary lines of our province. So we couldn't have family come down from Madrid, for instance. That's completely illegal. Uh, yeah. Your neighbor can come down from Germany and drive across two or three countries together here, uh, and bring your disease with him. No problem at all. Welcome. It's outrageous. It's wrong. But I don't know who the hell thought that. Well, you need swinging from the lamppost. Yeah, but the thing is, you know, the way I feel about this, I know that we could argue about this every single week. The problem for me is when you haven't got a sensible explanation forthcoming, then you can only jump to your own conclusion from what you read from what you hear and from what you know, you see happening in front of you and it doesn't make any sense at all. We're looking at Excel to the, you know, the tourism organization, and they're extremely critical of the ubiquitous images of illegal parties in tourist departments in cities like Madrid and the new rules that require travelers coming over the French boards to have a negative PCR test. We asked that tourism be a state policy. This is one of the politicians and we want more consistency between the measures, many of which seem contradictory, which is what we're saying that Ben Adorn Hotel association, which is called Hose Beck, considers the initiative excessive. According to Maria Montes, the secretary general of Uzbek, the security measures that were taken last year of creating plots on beaches, maintaining distances and monitoring compliance with the regulations proved to be effective. If you're with people from the same household in areas of four by four m and maintain social distance, we don't understand why it would be necessary to wear a mask when sunbathing now at the local beach here, which is only what 15 minutes drive from where both of us would start off, you can go and clearly see that the beach is marked out as if you're selling plots of land, so therefore
