Today’s story is by a relatively unknown writer who created one of the most influential science-fiction characters of all time. But it wasn’t until Anthony Rogers made the leap to being a comic strip that he became known as “Buck” in the comic strip “Buck Rogers 2429 A.D., which premiered on January 7, 1929 and continued until 1968. The title changed annually to keep it exactly 500 years in the future. It was the first science-fiction comic strip, which the author created with artist Dick Calkins. It heavily influenced Alex Raymond, who was developing his Flash Gordon strip at the time. I recognized that he was voiced by Mel Blanc, who did all of my favorite Loony Tunes characters that I watched every day after school. I always wondered by Wilma called Buck “Tony”, and it wasn’t until I read today’s story that I made the connection. Cause I’m really sharp like that.
