During the Covid-19 crisis, my law firm has been swamped with contract disputes regarding the ‘Force Majeure’ clause. Also known as an ‘Act of God’, ‘Impossibility’, or ‘Impracticability’ clause, this provision means that if something beyond the control of either party occurs, then neither party is liable for not fulfilling their end of the contract. No one expected to enact this clause when they signed, yet it quickly became the most important part of their contract. This is just one example of how a rock solid contract is necessary to protect your business, especially when the impossible happens. This is incredibly important for your business, so today I’m going to take you through a broad overview of contract necessities. In this episode, we’ll cover: The ins and outs of the ‘Force Majeure’ clause How an attorney can help you in contract disputes Basic contracts that you must have in place in order to protect your business Why you shouldn’t see contracts as scary! When you can use a template vs. a custom drafted contract What to consider when vetting a contract template How much you should expect to pay for a custom drafted contract from an attorney If you are interested in learning more about custom drafted contracts, please contact my team at www.andreasager.com!
