On February 27, 2004, doomsday cult leader Shoko Asahara was sentenced to death for the order of multiple Sarin --- a nerve agent, attacks on subway lines in Japan, and the Sakamoto family murder. The Aun Shinrikyo cult believes in a fusion of religions that draws upon Asahara's peculiar interpretations of elements of early Indian Buddhism and Tibetan Buddhism, as well as Hinduism.
