The month of May is one of the biggest months on the sports calendar, but preparations are currently being made in all corners of the world for THE biggest sporting event in the world that’s coming in June, the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
One of our foci on the newest episode of The A Lot of Sports Talk Podcast is the United States’ men’s national team, looking to make its biggest mark on the world stage in many tournaments. Arif Ahmed, our USMNT expert and soccer analyst, breaks down the preliminary 30-man roster unveiled by coach Jürgen Klinsmann this past Monday, and which players’ inclusions – and omissions – were a surprise. Also, Arif mentions which players have the most to prove in training camp at Stanford University before the final 23-man roster is announced in early June.
Also in this podcast, we take a look at the upcoming WNBA season that gets underway tonight, and there’s no better person to talk about the WNBA – and basketball in general – than Naismith Hall-of-Famer Ann Meyers-Drysdale. The vice president of both the Phoenix Mercury and the Phoenix Suns, Meyers-Drysdale assesses the state of the WNBA as it enters its 18th season, as well as discusses her team at length and the Mercury’s chances in a loaded Western Conference. Finally, we hit on the current happenings in the NBA Playoffs and the surprising turnaround the Phoenix Suns made this season.
