The Indian Government has released guidelines for regulating OTT streaming platforms and digital news media. Union Ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad ji and Prakash Javadekar ji, said these are for “empowering the ordinary users of social media.” Joining us in discussing the impact of this, are Neha Joshi, (Social Activist and the National Media Co-Incharge of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha) and Aashish Chandorkar (Author, Columnist, & Social Media Commentator).

They explain the proposed regulations, background to why this was necessitated, the argument of free speech and cost of compliance, the nuances of significant and non-significant platforms, challenges in grouping of digital news outlets with OTT platforms, and what this signals going forward in terms of relations between the Government and digital platforms.
