Greg Brophy is a former Colorado State Senator, former State Representative, former candidate for Governor, former Chief of Staff for U.S. Rep Ken Buck, current champion of Raise the Bar Colorado, and an all-around nice guy. He took some time to sit down with me and talk about a great number of issues on this week’s episode.
Among our topics of conversation:

How a farmer from Wray, Colorado came to run for office, and then went on to have a successful legislative career in both state chambers;
How it’s not enough to just have a good idea, but how you need to work with stakeholders of all stripes when introducing legislation;
What the function of the legislature actually is – that is to say, if the legislature only did one thing each session, what is it?
How the federal legislature differs from Colorado in important and noteworthy ways;
Why our Congress seems to be embroiled in perpetual gridlock;
Why it’s so easy to amend the Colorado Constitution and how that’s led to Colorado becoming a playground for activists of all stripes;
And what he’s doing about it.

Check out Raise the Bar’s “Learn More” page for all sorts of interesting stats about the Colorado Constitution, how Greg’s effort seeks to protect it, and a ton more. We cover it in this week’s episode, but additional reading never hurt anyone. Also, follow Greg Brophy on Twitter.
This is a fantastic inside look at the function of government with a guy who’s done it successfully for more than a decade. It’s a pleasure getting to hear his insights and observations.
