These living vessels are called Hollows after their emptiness, and their creation is often a punishment where one's flesh will be enslaved. But in Iruvia there is the practice of Hollowing willing individuals into Guardians, leaving some amount of the individual within so they may think and speak. These Gua'lim demonstrate supernatural abilities beyond a typical Hollow; a demonic nature remains unconfirmed by the Imperium but it stands to reason that what is empty can be filled.
