Mrs. Kasaija is a business woman. She operates a stall in Ntinda New Market. Last Saturday, she returned home after her normal routine days and in the morning, she felt general body weakness, but thought it was due to a tiresome day she had on Friday.
She never wanted to miss the weekend shoppers, so she bought Panadol and took it and decided to go to work. She spent the day and came back home but during Sunday night, she developed fever, dry couch, and a sore throat.
She prepared a concoction and took it that night and she was able to sleep.
On Monday, she still felts the cough, and dry throat but she thought it was just flu. She went back to work but later in the day, she developed chest pain and high body temperature.
She called her daughter to take care of the stall and went back home. On her way home she passed a nearby drug shop and asked for Malaria treatment and took some of it after reaching home. A day after she could not get off her bed and had breathing difficulties.
She was rushed to the regional referral hospital while she was very weak.
At the hospital, they took a sample from her for further investigation as well as assessed her oxygen levels since she already had difficulty in breathing.
They realized that her oxygen level was already too low and required to be directly cared for in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Unfortunately, the only four ICU beds available at the referral hospital were already serving four patients who arrived earlier and had progressed from oxygen support to ICU.
The medical workers put her on oxygen to try to save her life because they were informed that all other ICUs in all other hospitals were full, unfortunately, she breathed her last within an hour.
