I'm going to move now to a little bit of music to lighten things. So what will I pick for you? We'll have swing by the Rolling Stones. Wouldn't it be nice to play? It's all over now and mean it? Well, let's keep hoping. Run around every man. Yeah. Wait, coming to you from the Costa blanca in Sicily spain, you're calling, finding the news. You might have been regular listeners to the podcast will know that normally I will have a guest with me uh when it's so hot the technology can be difficult and also people on holiday and lots of things happen. So the next couple of weeks is me just looking at the papers and the spanish labour market is what I'm looking now. And the news I had was it's continuing to bounce back from the devastating impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Which is great news. If this is the way it's reading now, the number of people in employment rose By 464,900 in the second quarter of the year. More than making up for the fall, registered between January and March, When 137,500 jobs were lost. A total of 1.06 million jobs have been recovered since the same period last year, Spain was in the worst of the pandemic at that time. Of course, it is the greatest year on year rise in 16 years since mid 2000 and five, the number of employed in Spain now stands at 19 million, 671,700 While 3.5 million are registered as jobless. Um That was up by the way, 176,000 since mid 2020. Since the first quarter, the jobless number has fallen by 110,100, bringing the unemployment rate down to 15.26 Since the beginning of the year, 327,000 jobs have been created. But spain is still a long way off from where it was before the pandemic. In the second quarter of 2019, million people were employed. A 133,000 more than at this moment. This means however, that approximately nine out of every 10 jobs that were lost during the worst months of the crisis have been recovered. In June 2019, unemployment was at 14.02% by the crisis have been recovered, of course, um in June 2019, that figure, and then it went to the end of the year 13.7, and 3.32 million people were registered as jobless, meaning that today there are 310,000 more people who are without work. Right? Let's have a bit of music and then we'll pick it up again. And I got john he claimed he has the music. But he had a lot of fun. All baby Yes baby. Whoa, baby. Have me some fun tonight. Yeah. Well, no dogs, Energy bill speech Guys. Everything that I need all baby Yes. Baby. Who? Baby having me something for tonight. Yeah. Well, he saw mary coming in. Yes, baby, baby. Having me some fun tonight. Yeah. Uh huh. Yeah. Yeah. Mhm. Man. Yeah. Told santa. She this week. You got everything that I'm going to need. All baby Yes. Baby Who baby and meet some funny night. Yeah, baby, baby. Oh, baby having me some fun tonight. He is going I have on the night morning. Yeah. Everything. All right. Hands up. And it's one Mhm. An article that appeared in our papers over here in spain told us about humans seeking the answer to a colossal challenge for half a century, which is identifying the basic building blocks of life a century knowledge in the battle against terminal illnesses, water is easy to imagine. It's simply hydrogen. I just do atoms connected to another oxygen. Hate to. Well, we remember that, But the protein that enriches blood hemoglobin and carries the less memorable formula, which I'm not going to read to you because he even get lost reading it. Um in 1969, us biologist Cyrus Lovin Foul calculated that it would require More time that has passed since the formation of the universe around 14 billion years to untangle all the potential configurations of a single protein from its amino acid sequence, which are the links of these macro molecules. However, an article, artificial intelligence system created by the google conglomerate has achieved this feat in just a few minutes. Its predictions for practically every single human protein were published last week in a giant step for biology. Now, this is banging line, isn't it, with what's going on, You know, if they're going to get something like this organized, God knows what's gonna come next at the vanguard of this revolution is british neuroscientist Dennis Hassabis And the 44 year old researcher was a chess child prodigy who in 1997 was left in all of a match between Russian grandmaster, Garry Kasparov and the supercomputer deep blue. The machine beat the man, but Hassabis was left with the impression that it was a cumbersome piece of junk and useless in a game of tic tac toe. When the final game was over, the University of Cambridge undergraduate came up with the idea of designing machine that could learn any game. In 2010, he founded a company called Deepmind to lead the investigative drive towards artificial intelligence. In 2013. His first creation taught itself to play and win at various games on the legendary Atari Console. In 2014, Google bought Deepmind for 650 million, that's around 500 million um pounds. That was dollars for 650 at the exchange rate. Of course, of the time it all happened after limbering up on video games, the scientists that Deepmind then set themselves the task of solving one of the greatest challenges in biology. Proteins like hormones, enzymes and antibodies are tiny machines that carry out the basic functions of life, the made up of chains of smaller molecules amino acids, much like a pearl necklace. These necklaces are folded in a convoluted configuration that determines their function. We've seen the pictures anyway, um antibodies, the humans body's defense mechanism against invaders like the coronavirus have a Y shape. The recipes of all the proteins required to function, reads this information a sequence of amino acids and predicts the structure of each protein. It's precision is similar to that archived in laboratory experiments, which require considerably more time and money. It is like guessing the structure of a key sh after seeing pi eggs, pepper, salt, milk and cream for the first time, remember I'm reading this? So you know, it does make it sound as if it's on the way and deepmind the computer and the european Molecular Biology Laboratory published More than 350,000 structures on July the 22nd, including some 20,000 human proteins And those of 20 other organisms such as lab mouse and the tuberculosis bacteria, Venky Ramesh Krishnan of the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge and winner of the 2009 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, says that it is an astonishing advancement with unpredictable consequences. It's taken place long before many experts had predicted. It is going to be exciting to see the money ways in which is going to radically change biological investigation. Some organizations are already working with the new databases. The drugs for neglected diseases initiative, which is a global nonprofit set up with the aid of Doctors without Borders, uses the structures of proteins to seek new treatments. Practically all diseases from cancer to Alzheimer's and including COVID-19 are related to the structure of one protein or another. Other institutions, such as the University of Portsmouth in the UK are using the program to try and design proteins capable of recycling plastic. Now, if that doesn't remind you of boffins and what they can do and what they're planning to do, nothing will let me just get myself ready for my next bit of news. In fact, the last bit of news coming from spain. Yeah, mm, Okay. Now we used to have a scheme here, it's been running right up to this very moment actually immerse o or in sir. So trips for pensioners have been temporarily suspended following an appeal by House Beck. And who's Beck is the Costa blanca's Hoteliers Association and it's against the specifications including in the deals. Uh it's a really popular thing this and trips for the pensioners which last year had to be cancelled due to the pandemic Have been hit once again this year having been due to start in October with 816 and 29 places already applied for the trips have been temporarily suspended by the central administrative court of contractual appeals here in Spain pending the resolution of the appeal presented by whose bank. This is the Ben Adorn hotel managements and there's an appeal of course. But the content of the answer. So trip specifications claiming that there had been a lack of cost study, de facto exclusion of three star hotels and extensions without price review in a scenario of inflation and skyrocketing rocketing costs and requested the proceedings to be put on hold in order to remedy serious defects in these um confederation, allegedly also filing an appeal against the the same specifications. The General secretary of hose beck explained to Europa press that the decision to present allegations was due to the fact that the specifications didn't take into account the appropriate economic scenario since the scenario it posed forced the hotels to work well below the cost price. And this doesn't really surprise me, in actual fact, because, um, these type of things, you do hear older people talking about them and telling us how wonderful they are and how much they look forward to going on them. Um, so my guess is that unfortunately they won't be back anytime to quickly. And I think we have an idea where a lot of the hotels might be busy at the moment. Does anything like illegal immigration sprinter mind?
