In this episode The Crypt Keepers Stef & Devin discuss famous witches IRL & in folklore. Alice Kyteler was the first recorded person condemned for witchcraft in Ireland. Alice had friends in high places leading her to be able to escape death, change her name & head to England. Isobel Gowdie was known as Scotland’s queen of witches. She also had one of the most publicized & in depth confessions to performing the dark arts, including giving that good good to Satan himself. Some believe that she is The Green Lady who haunts Crathes Castle to this day. The witches of Islandmagee were some badass bitches for their time. Smoking, drinking & not attending Church. This made them prime suspects in witchcraft or at least the finger was pointed at them for being a Coven because they didn’t conform to society. Mother Shipton was a famous Prophetess. Many say that she predicted many large events in history & might have even predicted the interwebs. She was also known as Hag Face & Devil’s Bastard because of her appearance. Morgan Lefay was a popular witch in folklore dating back to Arthurian legend & The Witch of Endor dates back to The Hebrew Bible where she preformed necromancy to bring back the spirit of a prophet. Gerald Gardner was known for publicizing & naming the religion of Wicca. Many identify as Wiccans today & use nature in their practice.Support the show (http://www.patreon.com/thepodcastfromthecrypt)
