What is the lowest score you've got given to something on the podcast? Mm. We've had some intentionally, like, not good stuff. I think we reviewed the color orange, and I gave it a four. Yeah, but that's because it was associated with the football team I didn't like. Listen, there's no I can't tell you how dumb I feel when someone asks us about. I love doing the premise of, like, people are very nice. Like who I work with and stuff like, just in life. They're like, Oh, you ever wanna listen? I'm like, Oh, I want people to find this on their own. I don't wanna be like, Hey, check this out. Thought of some bad ones by, like, sandals. We did not rank high. What? Uh, Bugs E I don't think we're bugs into girl to the ecosystem. I will tell you bugs. Sounds like we're both very high, and we're stunk. So But ripping on don't like e. Don't think we gave them a higher of you because they're creepy. Yeah. Wow. Okay. But you're right. If you want to be scientific. Yes, of course. I want to be. Of course, it's part of the ecosystem. Okay, so orange sandals and bugs You're not here for no. Okay. I want to make that clear. E think if you were women, you would appreciate sandals more. That's probably true. E. I'm trying to think of one time I've seen Alexis's toes and e I've known each other for three years. I've seen as toes 12 times 12 today. Do you write them down on your way? Reviewed on one episode E Wanna come on and do your toes? Please review my toes one night e o basically retracted from the bit like No. No way. Oh, boy. Well, all toes aside, I think we gotta get put him to the side. I'm talking. Seriously, don't be nervous. Nervous? Don't be scared. You're going to do a great job. I'm impressed on anything. I'm just flip You didn't do it. You absolutely should not have told me that. Because I'm going to tear you apart. Alright, well, welcome to lizard people. The show where we tear people apart and make them feel bad about themselves. I'm your host, Caitlin Hempstead. My guest today are Joey Bergen and Justin Sherman, the host of everything reviewed. Ah, very fun new podcast. E way do on our show is add applause. Sound effects multiple times through the office. Do you do other sound effects, like way Make the fart noises ourselves. We have other sound effects. Do we have booze? No, we don't do Joey does our intro song and our song Our rating factories Clift, Joey Clift. Good Christ. I e can't see someone. I forget that they immediately way. Uh, yeah, I made some songs. Your multi hyphen it. Well, can we splice in my title at the beginning when he said the co host that Jessica and musician multi hyphenate Joey Bergrin and single skilled Justin Chairman Yeah, Yeah, great that in in post guys, would you like to tell the listeners what you're here to talk about today? Uh, me and Joey, You're here to talk about the Black Dahlia. Murder the murderer, The murderer. Okay, who do you think killed the Black Dahlia? I think Doc and Joe thinks you speak for me. I'm seriously You actually can't do the whole podcast in unison. I'll kick you right Way eyes, My nightmare Good promo for our show just steps up. It's gonna be fun. Improvs good. We think Dr George Hotel murdered that poor young gal. Good rhyme, hotel girl. That's a slant at best. But, you know, Wait, that's not what's like Brian Williams. I'm small. They have to take my English degree right now. Um, slant rhymes salus Will you tell if people don't know the story? The sad, sad tale and it genuinely is sad, and I'm gonna stay right up top. True crime makes me saddest. Fuck. I got really sad researching this, but we're doing it anyway. I don't like your crime. It's really depressing. But we're going to talk about it today because it's gonna lead us to something bigger than ourselves. More listeners. Yeah. Yeah. What happened to the Black Dahlia? And who was she? She was a 22 year old girl in 1947 in Hollywood. She's trying to be an actress. Debated, Debated. I'm already gonna fight you on that. Okay. All right. She had no credits and who knew her did said that they didn't know that she actually went to auditions, but she had said, I wanna be an actress. But now, to be fair, you're talking to two people in the same city E. That's a good point. Try E 29 year old boy in debt trying, but I don't know if he was gonna be a comedian. All right, You know what? Fair enough aspiring actresses of what she impact actress got. Her name was Elizabeth Short. God bless her, just like us on. Then she was found, uh, chopped in half on a in a vacant lot in L. A. No blood at all in her body, completely drained, chopped in half. People thought she was a mannequin. Yeah, the girl who found her thought it was a mannequin on the side of the road. In doing research for this, I saw something I absolutely wish I could unsee. Which is the picture? The Oh, yeah. And I can see why people thought that. Because what a sight to see. Yeah, well, they like post. That was, like in the papers. Okay, that's a real yeah background. O e thought your background was a mannequin e s. Oh, that's yeah. And then she It was She had a lot of horrible things that happened to her body that I don't have toe people can look it up if they want, but she was chopped in half. Basically, I am going to bring it up because there's already a little bit of shaky ground here. Some things that I read said horrible tortures were done to her. Some people said, I don't wanna use passive voice. There's some people said that her murderer, torturer. Some people said that she actually just had a couple of superficial lacerations on her body that wouldn't have led to that amount of blood loss. And she was not tortured. But she was cut in half Iwas we can all visual due to the lack of bruising on her body. She was cut in half after she was killed, according to the coroner's report. Mm, well, amount of blood I read. She was drained of all blood after being thing is the first time I'm meeting you, You're a about a woman. Just because I can only see your eyes about Yeah, a first time. I'm just staring at Joey pretty well, and I take it from Joey, but I don't know, You know, I think I said this when you were on my old podcast in defense, available on our way. Like it uh, you're from California, but you have a Minnesota nice vibe in both speech pattern and also just tone, I guess. And it is off putting to talk about something so grisly with two very nice, very naturally funny people. But I in my position, I could see both of you. And it is just big, polite eyes. That's just talking about your body was trained e can think about is that podcast he sent me where they talk about how part of her thigh was removed and then reinserted in a sexual man inside of also, if we're getting into it inside of her stomach, they found feces. And they think she was forced to eat thesis because that's the only way he gets in there. Joe. Yeah, that's gross. So if we owe you get stabbed in the stomach, you're here to prove that the only way to get pieces and you're telling me is todo Well, it's 40 minutes later. And Joe, he's been eating his own Dukie. Dukie. He didn't have to and no one asked him. Thio, No, look, I'm telling you, e get that water. No, dude, You said you wanted coffee. This is what you get. Bad things happen and I don't like it. Elizabeth Short was murdered. How does George Total come into the picture? George Hotel or hotel? Hotel is fun for me because it sounds like you takes away a little from the pain. But hotel might be right. You might be. He was a he worked at a He was a doctor, obviously. And he worked at a veneer riel disease clinic. That's what he did. That's where they think she met him. And he also frequent in the frequent, frequented great. The building, about a year in California, No frequented, frequent in the Biltmore Hotel in downtown. And that was the last place she was seen. Yeah, a few witnesses came out and said that they were dating like they knew each other. Also, people said that they didn't see that they ever knew each other. But there were people that said they did. And he, prior to this was arrested or brought in on charges of molesting his daughter. He got acquitted from that even though three witnesses say they saw it, but he got acquitted because they think he was in with, like the cops and because he was this doctor. Big sex addict guy Really messed up guy. He was a He was a psycho, like while demon. And this is the point in the podcast where I want to do something that I'm going to try to remember to make a new segment which is called, uh, one second. This guy sucks s so we're just gonna take a quick second? Because I hate it when bad people are remembered after the fact for, like, the interesting things about him. So let's just roast George Hotel for one quick second. Yeah, What a fucking loser. What a dumb, stupid idiot. He had no friends, I bet. Except for ones that he earned through sneaky behavior. Yeah, he tricked people into being his friend. Right? How? What a fucking loser you have to be. Have to trick people to be your friend and, like, pay off cops to be your friend. I bet he probably did that too, right? And he went to school for so many years. Presumably he flunked out of Caltech. Did you see that? No. He flunked his ass out of Caltech. He couldn't cut it. He wasn't smart or charming. Wow. Yeah. Dorner. He got Dash. Yeah. Got the gross doctor job. He's not like, Yeah, no one's like, Hey, come, come. You could be a dermatologist. Your nose throat. Yeah, Something fun. You Actually, most kinds of doctoring seem gross. That's true. E n t c was grows to Yeah, they're all no one goes to a doctor because, like, Hey, everything's really good. You take a look. Look. How good it it. Any other roasts for George? Yeah, just a fucking dork. That's all I gotta stand. Dumb name. Yeah, Creepy looking. So creep. Billion. Bad mustache. Bad, bad, bad. So that wraps up this guy sex. Okay, so I like that segment, by the way. Thank you. I think we should keep it. Okay. And by we I mean you. Are you hosting this podcast? Yes. Thank you for having us. All right. Well, fine. You could use a co host. Booking is tiring. Um, so that's why we did it, George. Huh? So George Hodel may have known Elizabeth Short. What's the evidence for him having been the murder? So he got the thing with his daughter. All that happened? Yes. So he's on the cops list. He was a prime suspect. So after that stuff, they bugged his house. 18 man crew bugged his house in Los Feliz. That's still there. So he was on the cops list when the murder happened. They were like, Oh, here's a creep. Yeah, because of war. And like witnesses saying that they knew each other and he they think he killed like his secretary. And like other girls to they just couldn't get him for secretary. One is creepy. So they brought him in on that right. Secretary died of a drug overdose. He called in, called in. He said she's dying of a drug overdose. He was He was in the room with her. Thanks. So that happens. Eso they bring him in, they bug his house. And did you hear? Did you find this? That they got him saying, Suppose I did kill the Black Dahlia? There's no way they can catch me now. They can't talk to my secretary anymore because she's dead. They have that on tape, him saying that in his own home. And then there was another thing he said, Um, okay, so he said that there's another I'm forgetting another broken upwards broken upwards. Oh, and then another tape. They hear a woman screaming, but no talking from a woman they didn't hear. Talk, screaming, screaming. And then the next recording is him saying talking to someone saying I didn't know what to Dio. She was already gone. The pillow, the pillow over head call attacks. He killed her like those were the snippets they got from the recording. Okay, so that happens. LAPD is going to bring him in. He leaves the country to the Philippines, I believe. Starts a family. Just lives there until 1990. He comes back to San Francisco, then dies in 99. But his So his son? Yeah, the son. Steve. My boy. Steve, No. You know what? Hollered Steve. Steve doesn't seem like he sucks. He's, you know, a member of the LAPD which decorate depending on your position on cops. Maybe he does suck, but, you know, he certainly doesn't seem to be a murderer. No good guy. He was like a decorated. He's like a well respected Well, we know him now. So get this Eso his son hears about all this. He was said he was close with his dad when he came back to America for the last 10 years of his life. So when he, uh when he's talking to his dad, he, uh they finds out that he was a suspect. He originally wanted to prove his dad innocent. Then he found these two pictures of models that he thought We're Elizabeth Short. One of them was proven not to be the other one. They still have not identified. But personally, I don't think in the family of Elizabeth, Short said. It's not her. I don't think it looks like her, but that's what started his investigation. And now, then he was like, Oh, my, I think my dad did this the more he digs up eso, he wrote. He releases a book in 2003 about the Black Dahlia Avenger just saying his dad did it and it's called like ultimate evil or something very intense like that. So I think he's a few books. So one of them, I think, Yeah, I was like, you know, they have some intense titles, but he's got, like, insane evidence like hey has received from his dad from to cement sacks that were identical that were found at the scene of the crime in which there was found watery blood, right? That was, like the only place of the crime scene. And the blood was found. Yeah, and he thinks that happened in the house and those feelings which I live right next to, Which is what? The reason I got into. So that house we walked to it. Okay, so is that the house today? Is that the house? It looks like a horrifying cliff Mouth like a cave. I've been wondering about that place. So Ram buy it today. And there were cameras outside like this. Group of people were just filming it like they were setting something up. I think people are out there all the time, like very famous in the U. S. O. When we walked up, there was a car waiting in traffic, and the person was just staring at You. Notice that? No, but that's what we're looking at it in front of the car where the driver was looking at it. I drive a lot it every time. I'm like, What? What? What? And then I have very weird because it's all angled to the street. Like how the house is normally flat facade. It's like like the It's like a diamond pointing at you. I I have no proof for this because they refused to go back and check. I think it was in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Probably. Yeah, it's in a bunch. They in stuff in a bunch. There was in, ah, Martin Scorsese movie. I think maybe it's smart. It's a spooky Scorsese s Oh, this guy's son. And some people say, No, he's lying. He's trying to build this huge empire. He's got a best selling book now he's trying to make money. Part of that is because he also thinks his dad, when he came back to San Francisco, was the Zodiac killer and the Chicago Lipstick murder and the Manila strangle because they were, like, similar in their notes and all that stuff, which I don't know about all that stuff. Um, but to which I say this Nay, because this man only has 300 followers on Twitter and less than all of us. That's less than all of us. All of us combined for sure, and I held him. Oh, and he responded in maybe 11 minutes. E mail them I'm telling you, I went down a rabbit hole, asked him to be on our pod. A review murder with the murder son. He was very polite and said, I'm not doing any more podcasts till the end of the summer, which I said, I'll be hitting you back up. Thanks for the response, boy. Steve. He also lives in L A. I guess asked to do podcasts all the time. You should ask him on this. So wild. Maybe I will. Yeah. Wow. So I'm all in. I've got your back, Steve, but don't let him talk about this when they come. No, no, no. I e told I'm gonna make him do, like, Lady Gaga guys alone or something. Oh, man. Beyond meat dress. So that's Yeah, that's like my complex. He's a Chicago cop. Hey, go. That's fine. That's fine. We got it. Uh um, in your emails to Steve. What was his tone like? It was very direct. He said Hi, Justin. E mail mind. Well, you're pulling it up. Let me point out that this happened because you asked us to come on here. Yeah, and he told me this after he had emailed with Steve. He's like, by the way, I asked the son of a serial killer to do our podcast. Hope that's cool. E open. He'd say, Yes. I'll be like I got us a guest for Saturday. If I had told you guys that you could do Andrew W. K instead, would you have emailed Andrew E for sure? Direct Message him on instagram. Great. Um, here is I said, 00 I can't read Oh, no, I got what I said. I said, I'm reaching out because I'm fascinated by the Black Dahlia Mom on actually live right next year old house on Franklin, which is what made me discover all of this to begin with. I was curious if you'd be willing to do my podcast and then I said, or even talk to me sometime about it over coffee. You're asking for a job? Yeah. If you need any help in your office, I can have filed. I go. Is this insanely inappropriate to ask? I have no idea. Maybe I've lost my mind. Anyway, I hope you're having a nice day. It's good. I didn't think you would respond. I love that you said your old house and not seen. It's not proving proving it was just a happy family in their evidence that happened in the Biltmore, but we could talk about that. So he said, Justin also it was not a happy family. A girl got raped by her dad, but very true. I take that back. I'm sorry. He said, Hi, Justin. I'm not doing any more podcasts until it least through the summer. At least through the summer. Don't know if you are aware of the currently ranked number one root of evil podcast. Lots of info and material on my investigation and on my blog's site. Steve Hotel Club. Steve, check it out. It's interesting. He blog's like new stuff. We did. Listen to that. It's horrifying. Okay, I'm good, But not as good as this one. No people Sure not wearing media. Um okay. Wow. How interesting. No, no, no. That's the best part of the podcast. Wow. Okay. Asking you receive. Um, one more thing. He went back into the LAPD records to try and find it, and all of it was wiped clean, like, not just like evidence that was thrown out like files were removed. How many other files from the 19 thirties were there? No, exactly, though that's what he was saying. But he's saying these were actual files that someone had to take out. He thinks it's because the police were, um they just went through Ah, mob like corruption things. So they're trying to clean house. They fired, like, 60 cops. Maybe that number is wrong, but it was a high number of cops. No, no, no. This is back then back then because of the mob and stuff. So they were, like, restarted, like branding, like trying to be. So they were We're rebranding. Please. A come on down today. Your buddy cops now dogs on Friday. He thinks that they were like, we can't let this come up because we're just It's our new brand. We're rebranding is a bad start. So you think they were like there was police corruption in this case. And so to Steve, not just me. Okay. Okay. Well, eso that brings me to one of my first questions is why did the cops not bring him in? Why was he not arrested? Yeah, that because of the thing and because they think he was in with everyone because he had He had a lot of dirt on people in Hollywood and there ve through their v d. He was also a messed up man. He would tell people they had he got gave him treatments. They didn't say he did. Like a legal abortion did illegal abortion. He was like a horrible man. The illegal abortion thing is interesting to me because he would have had contact with the cops before. Um, the LAPD was very interested in pursuing, like, vice charges and providing abortions was, I believe one of those. Don't you think that that would be more evidence for the LAPD wanting to bring him in? Yeah, if he if anything about him with us, they'd be, like, Great. We got an abortion, doctor. Let's arrest him. Yeah, I think that was involved in all of it. I think they were about to bring him in and before he bounced from my understanding. So now I want to talk about that. Our understanding. Your e don't think it's strong. E s o. I looked into that because I was like, Oh, holy shit. They were, like about to arrest him any, like fled to the Philippines the Onley place that I could find evidence for that Waas Steve Hotels book. Um, I do not believe that he would have been in a position at that point to know that that was why his dad was leaving. And there is no evidence of that in, like, LAPD reports. And, like, witness testimony from the time like detectives that they've interviewed since that they were going to bring him in. Or that he went to the Philippines? No, he definitely went to the Philippines, but that they were about to finally arrest him for it when he ditched. Yeah, Yeah, it was all from Steve. It's all from Steve putting more and more weight. What on earth? Her face was amazing. Got something, Thio. She's got those big Midwestern eyes. Um, so we got to take Steve's word for it. Mhm. Okay, next question e mailed me, so Hey, he's a He's a forthright dude, and I appreciate that. Very nice. No. Yeah, that was three. That's better than a lot of knows. I give. Um Why did he do it? Why did George Hodel kill Elizabeth Short? Yeah, I think he was a messed up man. okay. I think he was a psycho. Alright, I don't think there's any, like, I think he's Joe. What? I mean, we do have a Zai proof, but he has been on trial. He's been tried for other terrible crimes. We do know he was doing some illegal stuff out of his, uh, operation. His practice is the word I was seeking. Uh, So you think abortion providers, they're murderers? That I'm incredibly pro life begins at conception. Okay, well, I guess I won't touch that again. Thistle is my lizard people, huh? No, no, no. But that was all a joke. I just wanna make it very clear Joe believes in women's rights and autonomy over their own bodies. Well, just not voting everything else. I completely agree with me. Oh, just Tulio s. So you get Steve on to do it properly. But anyway, I think he was clearly doing some problematic things. I do think he killed a secretary. Yeah, hurry up. They say she was about to blow him up for the because she knew about all the illegal stuff he was doing. Okay, so he poisoned her Thio he drug overdosed her. Yeah, to shut her as a doctor. What a good way to kill someone. He was not convicted of that. No. Correct. Um, interesting. But if there's two people in a room, one of them dies. Everyone calls and says, Hey, someone died literally. That's why I read. They were like, You can't do we know what she overdosed on? No, no, I couldn't find it. Because I also wonder if she had, like, a pattern of taking drugs what kind of drugs they were that she died from An interesting question. Yeah, maybe if you're a secretary of VD Clinic, you see some shit, you get hooked. You're like, I can't see one more cauliflower looking vagina ravaged by syphilis. Did they make you look like a wrestler here? Yeah. Yeah. Cauliflower vagina. Yeah. I didn't look at that. Oh, yeah. E 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade start of every school year. Kids pick somebody to pick something. A quick question. Were you home schooled? E Okay, all right. Not convicted of any crimes but a fucked up dude. We can all agree. Okay, I'm going to start pushing back a little bit here. So the cops interviewed hundreds of suspects at the time shortly after the murder, and they focused on 25 people. E looked up some of those names and a lot of those people there on Lee hits on Google are four for this case. Sorry. Bug flew by my face, and I got scared. I'm being serious. Ah, lot of those 25 people have no reputation outside of this case, but this guy was already kind of a high society snobby bigwig fella. So he was friends with John Houston, the director. He later married John Huston's ex wife. Yeah, I know. Who changed her name to door A Ray? Um, yes, Something like that door. Yeah. Yeah. Separator from they were while they were freaky freaks. Yeah, he right. I'm pretty sure, e no idea. I'll remember why change it to derail right? To separate herself from it was because they didn't want to avoid confusion for something. Something or they all they all like surrealist Herrera, Herrera, Herrera, Guerrero, Guerrero hotel. And she daughter, who he molested had said the mom she remembers the mom saying that he killed her, killed the Black Dahlia. Okay, that's just from her, though. Okay? Okay, We've got a lot of hearsay so far out of here. Say, going on. Um, so, yeah, he He is the highest profile person that I could find that was brought in as a suspect. Do you think that it is possible that he is just the easiest person to find out stuff about? Oh, yes. But also, um, wait, a bug flew by giving a second. Yeah, I agree. Yeah. You mean Thio in terms of Yeah. So in terms of sort of him in recent years since Steve began, began his investigation sort of becoming the pop culture frontrunner for this crime. Is it just because we have mawr information about him than any of the other suspects? Yeah, I have agree with that. I'm sure there's some element of, like, snowballing of, like, this is the most likely. And then after 80 years, it's like, That's the everyone just kind of assumed that's who it is. All right, after enough time there, you know? But I don't know that he at that time was the most pressing Investigate. Sure he was. He was. They came. He found his son again. Steve, my boy Steve found records from LAPD that he was like one of the top. Did you? Did you see the records? Yeah. They mean the picture of it could be fake. I don't think it was like a Yeah, like a copy of it. Okay. Okay, that's new or two. I've been digging. E don't know, actually, listen to the podcast. And I was afraid to be alone for a minute. It's scary. And you send me the clip of a guy reading the description of the body. And there's just like this quiet, kind of, like, hum soundtrack in the background I did not enjoy. It was very upsetting. Somebody died a horribly Uh huh. Oh, yeah. We're going to take a quick break for an ad, and when we come back, things will feel better. Hey, real quick. Don't forget we've got our live London show coming up one week from today. If you're listening to this on Friday when it comes out, which, if not, why aren't you? Um, it's a the Camden Theater in London. Nine PM on March 8th. You could get your tickets from take a Tia, just Google ticket Tia and Lizard people, and it'll pop up our special guests Air Brown a tightly and Tom Nina. And I'm so excited to talk conspiracy theories with them. So come on down. It will be a great time. I'll hug you after. Great bye. Hey, everyone. I'm Holly Lauren and I have a new podcast called Mega. Each week I'm joined by my two co hosts, Ross Kimble and Greg Hess. It's a fully improvised podcast existing in a fictional megachurch called Twin Hills Community Church. Each week we have a different comedian on playing a new character who works at the church. You can find us on campfire media or wherever you get your podcasts. And I promise you church is about to get a whole lot funnier. All right, we're back. We're back in it. Okay, so I'm really ready to fight now, Are you? Are you ready for this fight with Yeah. No, I'm ready to fight with murderers. I hate them, and I hate what they dio. The police did an extremely thorough investigation. He was bugged by an 18 person LAPD task force. Um ah, Lot of that audio, as we all found out is recorded and written down. And they still couldn't get a conviction. I am not sure that I believe that him having friends who were cops, you know, paying cops a little bit of money to look the other way would cause the entire department to look the other way if he was clearly the murderer. I don't know if I buy it. Here's my thought. Yeah, if we've already established he got off this trial with his daughter despite three eye witnesses. Way already. Know there's some sort of someone's helping him out. Make it sad. But, boy, Oh, boy, do a lot of sexual predators get brought to trial and then acquitted because the testimony of when woman or girl is not enough. Also, eye witnesses, Sure, but like Harvey Weinstein did what he did for a long time and lots of people knew about it. Was he ever brought in? I heard that. He just nothing's gonna happen because that gets to like he wasn't like the last. Like like that stuff. Florida was pressing charges. Think thing. I don't e don't know. Set him on fire. Um, can we add him to that segment of this guy sucks. Yes, absolutely. We'll edit in the part where we say that he should go to jail and be on fire. Yeah. Uh, Anyhoo, so I don't know. Yeah, I do think he probably had some sort of back pocket because we've already known he's friends with celebrities. He's kind of this, like hotshot VD guy S o. I do think that he had help from. Absolutely. We already have some proof that the LAPD LAPD is at least kind of helping him through some stuff. He just had parties and parties at his house as well. They say he had a lot of dirt on a lot of people. Okay. Okay. There was also a ton of attention on this case. Yeah, and people were pretty angry that there was no conviction because it was very sensationalized. It was in the press a lot. The whole Black Dahlia thing was something. It was just made up by Hearst, um, to sell papers. That's so much attention to be on a case for the police to just be like, Yeah, we don't know. Shut up about it. Yeah, that's true. Well, a lot of people confess to to it that they found out, and also he thinks this Steve guy thinks his dad was also the Chicago lipstick murderer, and they convicted a 17 year old boy for that who is now saying they he was tortured until he confessed. He's alive. Still, he's in prison. There's an interview with him, and he was like, I absolutely did not do it. I was tortured, and they made me say I did it. Steve also said that Elizabeth had gone to Chicago to investigate those murders. Why would an aspiring actress go to Chicago to investigate a string of murders? Did he say to investigate? Yeah, I don't Yeah. I don't know about all that stuff. Okay. Yeah, Well, OK, 100% on a a. What are you doing? Okay, that to me brings some things into question about Steve's research on his father. Because it seems incredibly unlikely that Elizabeth Short was doing an amateur murder investigation in a city that she didn't live in and didn't know anybody in. And, um, he seems like he's ascribing Ah, lot of actions to people that he could not possibly know. Whether they're true or false. That is fair. Okay. Although she's an actress, she might have gone to Chicago to study, and a lot of she got arrested under a treaty. Crazy. She Oh, murder a lot of ambition. She was bad bitch, and I won't deny it. Um, okay, Uh, Steve Hodel thinks that his father may have been behind every major serial killing from, like, pretty much the last century. Um, there a few reasons why that is extremely unlikely. By the time the Zodiac killings were happening, he was quite old. Um, he was in medical school during the torso murders, which are another string of murders that have been ascribed. Thio Hotel. Um, I'm gonna be frank with you right now. A lot of my I wanna like Steve and I wanna hang out with him. But a lot of my objections. Thank you. Don't Don't let him listen. Don't let him listen to this. Ah, lot of my objections to the argument that George Hodel killed Elizabeth Short is that Steve Hodel is kind of the only person aggressively pursuing this right now on a lot of his stuff Doesn't hold up. E mean, I do see why he would be aggressively doing it for money because his dad was a murderer. Eso like What do you think? The psychology of that ISS? I have no idea, because I mean Joe. Yeah, I guess. Okay, let's imagine our parents are all murderers, all of them, Mom and you behind Steve Psychology and wanted to do that well, he says, and that it's the because he was a cop for that many years. He's just thinks it's like him just still working. It's like him. Like he just wanting Thio hated, like over 300 homicide cases in his career. I mean, how many movies are about the cop that can't solve with one case he needs to? Saul. Yeah, not that movies are real life. Some of them were like real life. Uh, yeah, that's a lot like lotteries Air. Pretty real life. So the guy ate all those McDonald's every day for a month. That's riel. Morgan Spurlock never say his name. Way. Email him. Next coup killed the black tithe. Morgan Spurlock on the review. The Black Fries E Um, what if what's going on with Steve and this is a bold surmise is that he just can't quit. He's been solving murder so long in the LAPD in the gritty city that he's starting to see murderers where there are no murderers. And he found a murderer in his very own home because that was the closest that he could look. Do you know what I mean? Maybe Steve Hotel is a good cop who retired and got bored and has invented stuff and put it in a book that's possible. Okay, Yeah. I don't think either of you want to believe that. I really don't. But I will say yes, he does. I also take the other side of like his dad molested his sister s o. He has reason to despise this man who in his eyes is walking free for a super famous crime from years and years ago. And he his job was to solve very similar situations. So not only is it what he did and presumably what he thinks he was put on this earth to dio. But it's a case super close to him and people he know We're personally pert from it. So I could see why that would eat at him. And you wanna I bet he does it for the hopeful feeling of satisfaction of like I did. I solved it like. Eventually everyone will realize it was him and yeah, we'll have closure. Yeah, I bet it's closure. I don't think he does it for fame. I bet he wants closure. I do not know him. And I did not email him. Let it be. Neither Joe nor I have emailed him. Maybe your ideas. Curious you? Maybe I e I'm doing late summer. You wanna be on podcast? Not the one from before. It's a new one. You have to defend something that people don't like. Okay, Okay. That's kind of the end of my arguments for you. Do you have any other details about the case? You don't get to talk about evidence that George a search dog behind the alley of the house, and it's sniffed up like evidence of human remains In what year? 2012. A lot of shit happens in L. A. You know what I mean? That's what I'm No, that's just the most. Got a dog, but the dog had three legs. Is that true? They and they did it on L. A. There was some radio news station that covered it. Anchor was like, Yes, that's right. Your eyes did not deceive you. The dog hand three legs. Our friend Buster here has been trucking along after a disease that lost. It was like more on the story. And the guy was like, outside of the house I got I'm here in front of the famed house where all the blood was drained from that girl's body. Oh, my God. Sports tonight, 10. Like Morgan, get the fluff piece to while you're there, Get the murder thing and the talk without less than three stories. Listen, can I say something? I am just a boy who was fascinated by this case, and I said a lot of things that some people will be like That is horseshit. That guy is an idiot. But I just enjoyed being here, and I like hanging out with people on all That's it. You want him back? The fans love, you know, allow you got to do is be vulnerable on this podcast and they eat it up. All right. The time has come for me to decide how convinced I am that this is true, guys. Um, but before we do this, you're holding hands as if you are about to win an Oscar before we do this, I imagine if they showed all five nominees on one of those, like, holding his like way. Rami Malek way. Little statue. Yeah. Great. I need you guys to kill a little bit of time so that I can look back through my notes and kind of think about what you said. So you are. Yeah. Genuinely. Just fill up, like, three minutes. So very e. My contribution of research for this project was that you can sing along to kiss his black diamond, but say Black Dahlia instead, do it for him. It's like, uh ooh, black Dahlia. Gonna pop, pop Donna, uh, do black Dahlia Bodo Do, do, do, do, do, do, do do do do do do That was good. Yeah. Thank you. Yeah. You're the vessel e. Let me know, and I'll get you a meeting. Have you been in that hotel? The Biltmore? Yeah. We've done shoots down there. And so how is it? It's all right. Just by Pershing Square pushing. Pushing? I don't think I've been Is that where? What's this? Is that the square with that rooftop bar? There's, like, art in it. Just big sculpt pieces. Um, isn't it weird to think people would hang out in hotels? Yeah, And I guess people hang out like the chateau you w the standard standard. Best Westerns I download Doubletree. How do you think you did on this show? I'm not great. I'm ready. Okay. Perfect time. Okay, um, guys on this podcast, I break things down into two scales. Want to believe and do believe? Want two Believe being does it make the world a more satisfying, interesting place? If this is true, do you believe just the cold, hard facts? Okay. Want to believe out of 10 venereal diseases? I'm going to give the argument that Dr George Hodel killed the Black Dahlia. Seven. I want to believe e Definitely. I definitely want to believe it will take hold just the way I want to believe it. Because then this is resolved. Elizabeth short. She maybe not justice so much because he's already dead of natural causes. Your, um But at least our long national nightmare is over. Do believe out of 10 3 legged dogs. I'm going to give this one 5.5. You have just tipped me over into just just barely over the edge at 16.5 legs. By the way, uh, if it's 5.5 legged docks, right, What? You're good at math, and I believe you. How much did you want to believe that, dog? 11. 11. Both our scale. Yeah, I did that. Everything reviewed scale, E. I am just barely sort of convinced I'm still a little bit like, But what about all the other people? We don't know anything about them, but I think you guys have presented adequate evidence that he was a psychopath who did fucked up shit. Uh, and I hate his guts and the sounds right. Uh, this feels like in speech class when I was like, that was a good one. And then I got the paper like their little sheet that said I was like, Oh, my God, I get so bad. I'll tell you the truth. I'm harder to convince With history ones Andi easier to commit to a stupid celebrity bullshit. So come back and do Andrew W K. It's multiple people. Yes, all right. 100%.
