Cheo and Raja, hosts of The Great Gay Dadcast, list their favorite books for pregnancy preparation before discussing surrogacy "giggles" and "poops" with their guest, Jonathan Raviv.
to give people just some other options out there. We have found a beautiful list of books that you all can look at that are not what to expect when you're expecting or the movie, which I guess we started off by saying was awful and now we're like actually just watch it anyway. Thanks j lo but here, um, here is a list of books, uh, for you all to take a look at. One is called and Baby Makes more known donors, queer parents and our unexpected families. And this was edited by Susan Goldberg and Chloe brushwood rose. And another one that we found that could be helpful is called Baby Love Choosing Motherhood After a lifetime of ambivalence. And that's by Rebecca walker. Another book is called Dad's A Gay Couple Surrogacy Journey in India. And that's by hans Horry. She. And we have a book called a gay couples Journey through surrogacy intended fathers. That's by jerry bigger and Michael Minichiello and our last book for this round. And please visit our website where you can get the full list and links to all those books where you can buy them and support Jeff Bezos on amazon prime or do a better option and find your local bookstore is called How we do family from adoption to trans pregnancy. What we learned about love and L G B T Q. Parenthood and that's by Tristen Reese. Can I add one more? Please do. I was really excited about this one because it's a graphic novel and it's called pregnant. Butch nine long months spent in drag. It's by A. K summers. So everyone go to our website at great gay dad cast dot com and check out our links for all of these books and check it out. Yeah, sneak. Yeah. Yeah we have Jonathan received. Hey Jonathan, can you hear me? It's all good. I'm sorry I came in a little. No, it's good. It was very excited, so happy to be here. I'm so happy to be talking to another gay dad. Dad. Soon to be. Soon to be. I what are you, what week are you at now? This is where halfway mark. 20 weeks. Who we are. We're actually, we're because I think, oh, I think because that was from january, right? We're at week 36 baby. Okay. It's so wild because I feel like I keep thinking that things take forever obviously because I'm on the other side of this. But Jonathan when we chatted which felt like a week ago, what was actually over 20 weeks ago because not that you feel like it was a week ago because for me it was like that was a lifetime ago. I don't know why, but you were just, you were like, you hadn't even kind of like I I think bun in the oven as they say. Yeah, we had our transfer september 21st so they transfer the embryo. Uh and now we're halfway mark. And you know, there's so much before that people don't even tell you just like all of the, all of the questions you ask. Like I it's funny because people ask us, you know, how long is was the whole process? And my partner is like, I was like two years and I'm like, no, it was like three years because the second we started asking those questions of like what agencies do we use an agency? Do we just do it like piecemeal? You know, what are the steps? Well, how do you do this thing? It seems so overwhelming. Uh So we've we've now we've now compromised and said 2.5 years. So john marriage, two things Jonathan, two things I'd love to do is just to have you say who you are and what you do a little bit. And then normally at the top of our episodes today and I will do this thing where, and we're working on the title of this, but I'm fully committed. It's called giggling poop. And so it's kind of like a rose thorn where you talk about something that's, you know, fun and exciting that's going on in your life and then poop, something that's messy, somebody that needs to be cleaned up something that you want to throw away and get the whiff out of the room. So who are you, what do you do? And what's your giggle and poop? Okay, so my name is Jonathan raviv. I'm an actor in new york and that's been challenging recently, but I'm actually not going to have been one of the lucky ones that have been able to to get some work here and there. Um and I am almost 40. I will be 40 in june and we're going to have a baby right before that look great, thank you, You're in my closet, welcome to my closet recording booth here, my giggle and poop. I love, it sounds so good coming from someone else. It's catching on. So something really good besides expecting this baby and our surrogate is amazing and we can talk about all that. Um because of that, we just, my partner and I just bought a house, we're doing it all just, you know, it's like full tilt, yeah, yeah, so it's just all at once, it's all at once, which is a little bit of the poop, right? And and and with that comes the stress and stress about money, stress about all the planning. Um so it all just kind of goes hand in hand. It's like this, this catch 20
