eso today I want to talk about what the fuck is going on at Fort Hood? Yes, please. So there is a lot to cover here. Um, Fort Hood is located in Killeen, Texas, about halfway between Austin and Waco. So we must have driven, like right past it when we were way did that Driving around Texas. Um, it is one of 10 U. S. Army base is named after a Confederate General in this case, which makes perfect sense in this case, John Bell Hood, a violent racist who died of yellow fever in 18 79 leaving behind 10 orphaned and penniless Children. Beyond that is probably the nicest information that I have about this guy. There's a wrote them on the block. If you're interested. I think it's labeled John Bell Hood comma Violent. Racist? Yeah, s for some reason, 63 years later. Somebody thought it was a great idea to name an army base after him. And why do we do this? Why? Over and over? No sense. It would be like naming army bases after Kim Jong or after, Like we fought these people. Their trade lost. They like, get over it. You are on the wrong side of history and you're losing you are the weakest link. Goodbye, Goodbye. So in 1942 construction began out of a need for a for wide open spaces test and train with World War Two tank destroyers to make a big mistake. Yeah, as of 2014, Fort Hood listed over 45,000 assigned soldiers around 65,000, including their family members and 8900 civilian employees at the base, which covers 214,000 acres. Whoa, damn, It's so fucking big. And yet it is the 12th largest military base in the U. S. So it's not even close to the biggest one. God, not by like, not even not even top 10. I think my is Fort Bragg the biggest one e don't know, because I think in my case we talked about Fort Bragg, and I think if it's not the biggest ITT's up there, it's bigger than Fort Hood. I believe so. Given the size of the base and the surrounding city, it isn't surprising that there is criminal activity, but 2020 in particular has seen ah lot more than statistically normal. So let's back up here a little bit or at least uncovered Mawr Well, we'll get to It. Got more media attention than both. Yeah, in 2007 June 12th, the body of Lawrence George Spreader Jr was found at about 8:30 p.m. In the brushy area located within the Central Texas Army posts Training ground. He had gone missing for days while conducting an exercise for basic, uh, for testing, basic map reading and navigation skills. A massive search had been conducted with over 3000 parties scouring the countryside, according to autopsy records. He had died from hypothermia and dehydration, according to an Army investigatory report. There were quote, a multitude of procedural violations, judgment errors and alleged acts of misconduct by Army trainers. That not on Lee contributed to spreaders death, but put some 300 other soldiers in danger that day, including about two dozen who required medical attention. So that two dozen, yeah, this'll maybe the first indication in recent years that responsible oversight is lacking at Fort Hood. Also, maybe you don't send out a bunch of trainees on map reading who haven't passed map, yeah, without any way of being able to find them. I don't know the specifics of this particular, uh, if it even was a training exercise, it just as an exercise. Um, either way, clearly something went very wrong because he fucking
