And what exactly does that mean to make a long story short? The biggest reason to speak like an american is so that more people can easily understand you. As I stated in the free SSL podcast # one. The midwestern american accent is the most widely accepted accent and it is for this reason that it is the accent that you will almost always here when you listen to american news, this is why a midwestern american accent is often referred to as a broadcaster english or standard american english. Additionally, if you are able to speak like an american, it will greatly improve your confidence because you will not have to repeat yourself as a result. This will have a positive impact on your social interactions and you will certainly have more fun socializing with friends and co workers. So how do you speak like an american? Well, there are a number of ways to work on this and I will go over the ones that I think will be most useful for you. First of all, it is generally a good idea to speak slower than usual. This tip may sound a bit strange, but if you try it, you will see the difference. There are many common languages that are spoken in a faster rate than the english language, such as Russian, spanish, chinese, japanese and hindi. To name a few. My second tip is to try and understand the importance of using contractions. Native american speakers almost always use contractions. Most contractions are not slang, but grammatically correct combinations of separate words that are shortened in writing americans use an apostrophe to replace the.
