Series:  ScatteredSuffering and Submission 1 Peter 2:14-25 Suffering and submission are valuable in God’s kingdom.  He uses them to accomplish His plan and develop His people.     Submission is difficult for us because rebellion is a part of our makeup. What about bad rulers?  Peter was writing to people who were living under a tyrannical governmental system.  Is civil disobedience?  The Bible illustrates resisting authority when a person is protecting the innocent or proclaiming the gospel.                As a general rule, God views disobedience toward authorities as disobedience toward Him.   Freedom in Christ does not give us a license to sin, an excuse to be selfish, or a right to be rebellious.  Freedom in Christ gives us the ability to submit.  Our submission to authority is not weakness but a tool for the Lord.  why do we submit to authority?  1.  Institutions of authority are ordained by God. (14)  2.  Submission and civic “goodness” silence foolish people. (15)  3.  Christ is displayed through suffering.  (16-21) 4.  Submission acknowledges a trust in God’s justice. (22-23) 5.  The Gospel is advanced through a submissive people. (24-25)  God is only known through absolute surrender and submission.
