So blended learning is a term that we've used before, you know, flipping the classroom again, how are we integrating technology? Really, it's the whole purpose of this podcast. How can we take the technology that's out there, whether it's meant for education or not, and how can we use technology to make teaching easier better, more effective? How can we make learning easier, better, more effective. And blended learning really brings together the best of both worlds. You know, when we think of antiquated out of date teaching models versus you know, the new fan dangled ways of doing things, how do we bring the two together? Because there are parts of education that are antiquated, that are still effective and there are parts of teaching digitally here and 2021 beyond that are ineffective. And again, if we blend the best of both worlds, there we go, using the word blended, we can come up with a better way or at least the possibility of a better way of teaching and learning. So, over the course of this episode, I am going to talk about what blended learning is, why blended learning is important, the benefits of blended learning. And I'm going to impart some Edtech recommendations for tools and resources that you could consider going forward. But I really think it starts with the mindset of not wanting to go back to the way you used to do things. For me, it's been a challenge. Now, people all throughout the pandemic, you know, would come and tell me, oh, you know, nessie, you you've been training for this, your whole life, you know, with all the technology and stuff that you you do when you use. And yes, to some degree, I've had a lot of success in engaging my students, trying to engage my students and adapting things I used to do and trying to find ways to make the project based learning work and you know, the group work and the collaboration and all the things that I have talked about in terms of you know, the foresees, how can I make those still a prevalent part of what was for part of this year, my virtual classroom and now as I'm finishing this school year, my hybrid classroom, so how do I bring these together? And how do I plan for a september? Where for all intents and purposes, I am planning to be obviously at my school and to have 100% of my students in the room. Now, could that change? Absolutely. Will it change? Your guess is as good as mine, but I need to have a plan in place. I can always adjust, I can I can get to the line of scrimmage, I can call an audible, I can, you know, decide to swing away, insert sports metaphor here, but where do we go? How do we get there? What do we blended learning now? This might be a new term for you. So let's create a foundation. What is blended learning? Blended learning is a mixture, a blend. If you will of learning methods that incorporate multiple teaching models, mostly digital and traditional face to face teaching and learning, how do we bring the two together? Blended learning is what we need to focus on as we enter the post pandemic lockdown world of 2020 and 2021. We need to reevaluate the human component in the learning experience. A blended approach ensures that students are engaged and driving their individual learning experiences. This approach also helps cater to the individual needs of the student. We know that every student has a unique learning style and a blended approach is more likely to cater to those needs than a traditional classroom teaching experience. Why is this important? Blended learning is important because it breaks down the traditional walls of teaching ones that don't work for all students. And now with access to all the different technologies we have and a lot of us got thrust into using new technologies in new ways Over the last year, we now have resources that we can even better tailor to the learning experience. For each student, blended learning also offers flexible time frames. We've heard a lot about flexibility and patience and empathy. We can't go backwards on those things. Okay, period stop, can't go backwards. We need to continue to be empathetic. If for the majority of your career you were strict on deadlines and during the pandemic, you weren't so strict on deadlines and due dates. Did the world end now? So do we need strict deadlines and due dates? Probably
