Cahli Blakers is her name!!! Not Karly Blackers, Not Carly Blacks and certainly NOT Carl Backie. GET. IT. RIGHT. PLEASE!!! Sorry for the aggression. It’s just simultaneously hilarious and frustrating how my times Cahli’s poor name has been misspelt on gig posters. ANYWAYS, bitching is not why we are here. We are here to appreciate the extraordinarily wholesome and authentic individual that is Cahli. She first came on my radar when her AMAZING band ‘Teenage Joans’ was just starting up in the Adelaide scene. Suddenly they were everywhere. A two piece girl band was UNHEARD of until them (Tangent: are they your favourite girl band or favourite band? Get away from your gender based predispositions mate). Wow do they pull it off. Such catchy hooks by the legend herself along with one of the coolest punk ever, Tahlia who makes a huge sound behind the kit despite her size. I naively was trying to friend Cahli one night at the Exeter because I was hoping to get TJs to come on tour with Paper Sunsets. This wonderful night was special for multiple reasons as I got to meet one of the most supportive parents in the world, Nat. Unfortunately we mutually decided that TJs were not quite ready for touring given their age. However, this night was especially significant for me as I went to the show hoping to get something from Cahli but left hoping to give something. Now let’s be honest here. Cahli is killing the Adelaide and even Australian music scene and doesn’t necessarily need any help from me. Instead I hope I can be a positive male role model and friend. I AM ALWAYS HERE IF YOU NEED DUDEY. I love deep chats and am happy to help you through the emotional conundrums you run into along your journey to becoming a rockstar. GET A DEEPER INSIGHT INTO THE MIND OF CAHLI NOW!!!Love you always pal! Hope you and everyone listening is staying safe through this time of isolation.
