SotD!Cast『 20 』Last Of The YouTube Good Guys New episodes broadcast live on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/sotdcast

On this week's episode, the guys take YouTube to task, discussing Let’s Plays, YouTubers, Patreon and algorithms. If this was a podcast about that stuff, it would be really interesting and on-topic! Now that the Podcast is old enough to drink, we finally have a normal discussion that makes us sound reasonably adult – totally unexpected. We also talk about Stephen King’s IT (2017) which was bloody good – all hail to the King, the renaissance is here! Matt and Chris also spend a lot of time talking about Awesome (Arnold) Schwarzenegger and Conan The Barbarian.

This week’s homework was of course Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice – the new game from Ninja Theory based around mental illness and collecting a whole lotta runes. Just be prepared for a whole lot of darkness. Darkness? Darkness. DARKNESS. The guys like the treatment of the mental illnesses, but feel perhaps the gameplay is not amazing. We also have a great discussion about the beautiful art style. Remember, if you liked this episode, don’t forget to facepalm that like and stare lovingly and intently at that subscribe button!

SotD!Cast『 19 』Died Clutching A Fleshlight New episodes broadcast live on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/sotdcast

Oh boy, this episode is a glorious train-wreck. Things begin quite normal with discussion of Dragoncon – the Con of Cons, Xenosaga and other great JRPGs that we will never play, a plethora of TV shows including The Mist, things that Stephen King has definitely thought and said, as well as Chris’ apology for his previous thoughts on Ghost In The Shell. Matt also covers the film ‘Life’ and how its not too shabby.

This week’s homework was of course Thirteen Ghosts – an early 2000s music video that has no idea what it is doing. But at least we have Shaggy and TV’s Monk to guide us through some great production design as we struggle to fathom why the barely existent plot does what it does. This also leads on to, what is probably a new low for the cast as we discuss ‘the rules’ when it comes to dying holding a signature weapon or item. Clues in the episode title folks. Tom also muses, in a feeble attempt of not causing offence, about people hired for their physical attributes. Regardless, the most important thing is that Monk NEEDS TO FIND HIS FAMILY. HE CARES ABOUT HIS FAMILY.

SotD!Cast『 18 』Chris's Marvellous Mezzaline New episodes broadcast live on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/sotdcast

On this week's episode, Chris has a bone to pick with a few things about his job and if you believe in spelling things properly well… we have a horror story for you. Other off-topic nonsense includes a discussion on Blu-rays and their poor victim the HDVDVVDVDD, subreddits that r/mildlyirritating, and the suckier side of Stephen King adaptations, such as The Langoliers and SpikeTV’s recent The Mist. There’s also time to discuss bizarre and perverted animes, like what the cool kids crank it to!

This week’s homework was of course Frank Darabont’s The Mist, an example of how to adapt Stephen King successfully. The guys can’t help but gush about the movie and it’s expert grasp on the disintegration of society and heightening tension. Also an insightful and very intelligent discussion on the poignancy of the ending soon runs askew as Tom wonders about the logistics of shooting five people with four bullets. Then it all goes a bit more downhill from there, if you can imagine it. But then, you’d kill yourself if you MIST this one!

SotD!Cast『 17 』I Feel Atrociously Sick Now (Little Nightmares) New episodes broadcast live on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/sotdcast
Click 'Show More' for timecodes.

On this week's episode, the guys discuss all manner of topics – Friday The 13th: The Videogame, good ol’ Steve King’s The Dark Tower, Resident Evil Vendetta, as well as a lengthy rant on the logistics in Season 7 of Game of Thrones. It’s your regular mixed bag of off-topic natter. Oh and we would be remiss if we didn’t also mention speedrunning, so that’s in there too.

This week’s homework was of course Little Nightmares, the superbly designed if somewhat lacking plot-wise Indie game wot we played. The guys go into what they liked (a lot), what they didn’t like (a little bit), and their frustration with the casual ambiguity the game plays with – it wants to be open, yet also wants to be understood? We’re too sick for this. Well, one of us is. There ain’t enough Lemsip in the world that can save Tom’s disintegrating mood.

SotD!Cast『 16 』Apologies To Our Tibetan Listeners New episodes broadcast live on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/sotdcast

On this week's episode, the guys have an awesome talk about Matt’s recent LARPing, including the rules of engagement and how exactly magic works. There’s also the now expected mentioning of the weather (we try not to play into Brit stereotypes but it seems this one is unavoidable), brief mention of Attack On Titan, brief descriptions of SpikeTV’s The Mist and FX’s The Strain and a brief section on LasagnaCat, AGAIN. These brief sections of course totalling 54 glorious off-topic minutes.

This week’s homework was of course Jacob’s Ladder, an arguable modern classic that helped shape a wealth of games and films after it including a series that rhymes with Violent Mill. The guys, who have all seen it before but enjoyed this recent rewatch, all chime in with their experiences both old and new. They also talk about the iconography and themes borrowed from the movie since it was released, it’s origin and screenwriter’s two years in a monastery, and of course, the beautiful country of Tibet; which we NOW know speaks Tibetan. Just pretend our ignorance is the last futile dream of a dying STOP OH YES WAIT A MINUTE MISTER POSTMAN…

SotD!Cast『 15 』And Then Cabren Was Master New episodes broadcast live on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/sotdcast

On this week's episode, the guys take off-topic rambling to whole new levels. Gardening! Air-conditioning! The Monarchy! Speedrunning! Everything-but-horror-based-chat? You betcha. But it’s all fun, inane nonsense the likes of which, our loving audience, have come to love. Right guys? Guys…?

This week’s homework was of course Galaxy Of Terror, and this 2+ hour behemoth of an episode wouldn’t be complete without an in-depth analysis of weird horror movies no one has seen. Galaxy has a very interesting premise, and we all agree a lot of the elements in here could have made a good movie. Unfortunately, we have… this. One thing’s for sure, Cabren is now the Master. Whatever that means.

SotD!Cast『 14 』Goddamned College Kids! New episodes broadcast live on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/sotdcast

On this week's episode, the guys don’t mention the weather once. We can only apologise for this drastic oversight, and hope that regardless, you’ll persevere onward with the cast. Chat revolves around The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker and FMV games of yesteryear, as well as the new Call Of Cthulhu title shown at E3 this year, Bloodborne, Alan Wake and Poets Of The Fall, who did those great songs for Remedy games.

This week’s homework was of course Tucker & Dale Versus Evil, a hillbillyin’ good time. We talk about how wonderfully fresh the movie is, despite having been around for a while now – how it superbly turns your expectations on their head for comedic effect, and we all do som’ guud suthurrrrn accents for good measure. A feel-good fun time on the SotD!Cast? Filthy lies from goddamned college kids!

SotD!Cast『 13 』Tomb Of Meat New episodes broadcast live on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/sotdcast

On this week's episode, the guys have not had an awful lot of horror in their lives recently, so talk instead turns first to Chris’ continued quest into all things strategy. A dark prophecy is unveiled regarding a bleak future where throwing rocks at the wall will be the only single-player campaign. We also discuss the weather (as is tradition) as well as fuck-off big fridges (henceforth known as Tombs of Meat) and Calippos (if you can hear this Unilever, we are prepared to talk sponsorship).

Tom then briefly explains the plot for Fear The Walking Dead up to the new Season 3 and why killing his favourite character was simultaneously a very clever and very stupid move. This leads on to discussion of the character development trope and how, when you get an episode fleshing out a side character, it’s kind of like fattening up the pig for slaughter. Remember kids, stay away from development, stay alive.

We also come up with a pitch for the Twister movie (board game, not natural phenomena) and a dozen tag lines – Hollywood needs to call us. We will turn your dollar into an hundred pounds.

This week’s homework was of course, James Wan’s Insidious – a film of two halves that certainly becomes a lot more interesting in the second. Scary Darth Maul tiptoeing through the tulips makes for an interesting yet ultimately underused villain, which is confusing. But the either of ‘The Further’ and the souls destined to forever replay their tragic demises gets a big thumbs up. The real question we’re left asking though is, if Patrick Wilson is now possessed by the Woman in Black, how can he possibly go on to become Chris Pratt’s father? All this and more on Big Empty Haunted Houses With Good Cinematography!

SotD!Cast『 12 』The One Where Tom Done Goofed New episodes broadcast live on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/sotdcast

Heads up – Tom messed up this week by recording on his in-built laptop mic rather than his swanky USB podcaster mic. As such, he was in two minds whether to release the first half of the podcast - but there was so much gold in there! So he made use of an hundred effects in Audacity and managed to get it mostly audible. If however you can’t stand it, skipping to about 30 minutes in will get you to the part where Tom rectified his mistake.

On this week's episode, the guys chat a whole host of off-topic crap – shootin’ guns, freedom and PIZZA; Blizzard, Assassin’s Creed and missing faces; Willem Dafoe, Pierce Brosnan and singing ABBA… everything that isn’t horror basically.

This week’s homework was of course, Ridley Scott’s almighty Alien. Chris’s popped cherry versus Tom’s familiarity and Matt’s directorial cut style advanced knowledge come together to give three different viewpoints on the film itself. We talk about the believability of the characters and their realistic dialogue and reactions to the horrific events of the original movie. We talk about the xenomorph and how it’s mystery adds immense tension to proceedings – something Covenant could stand to remember. Most importantly, we discuss the main character Jones, and the amount of his faeces that should be e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e on the Nostromo. Even before the self destruct was activated.
