MELISSA WU - Success as an Olympic Athlete Whilst Overcoming the Challenges of Sport and Life
4x Olympic athlete Melissa Wu, shares her incredible story. Starting her career in diving at 10years old, Melissa made her Commonwealth Games debut at 13years of age, walking away with a Silver medal in the 10m synchronised diving and finished 5th place in the individual 10m platform.
Having just recently won a Bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, we talk about this incredible achievement and why it's so special at this time in her career.
We dive (pun always intended ;) into the challenges throughout her long career and how she has overcome injury, bullying, low self confidence and the impact her sisters death has had on her and her family.
An open and honest conversation, Melissa Wu is a breath of fresh air. Not only has she got her eyes set on the 2022 Commonwealth Games, but she also coaches youth athletes through her family business Hrdkaw Strength, providing scholarships and educational programs and is passionately helping and supporting the upcoming generation of divers through her Academy; Australian Diving Academy which she co-owns with 2016 Olympic Diver Kevin Chavez. And on top of all that, she also has her own activewear label Havoc Athletic.
We also chat about her incredible time on Channel 7's SAS Australia, where she famously face plants after exiting a gas filled shed.
Melissa is an absolute powerhouse and this conversation will not only give you an insight as to what it means to be competing with the best in the world, but it will inspire you to work as hard on your mindset training as you do on your physical training.
