Saying No to People Pleasing: Jerry Fu – ExtraOrdinary People After not getting the grades he would have liked (and that would have been expected of him), Jerry handed the reins of his life over for other people to set the standards and decide where he should go next. Whilst that meant that there were people who had his best interests at heart at times, and often aligned with his own ambitions, it also exposed him to situation in which he lacked control and authority.
From drive through pharmacies to coaching leaders, Jerry will share with you the risks involved in not taking ownership of your own life and decisions, being too agreeable and the dangers of getting too comfortable.
If you’ve ever heard of tough love, you’ll understand that sometimes stepping back from helping someone is the best way to get them to step up. Jerry was on the receiving end of an enabling Mum who was invested in helping him carve out the future she believed he deserved.  It wasn’t until he put himself in an uncomfortable employment situation, forcing him to live alone without a support network in place that things began to change.
Unaccustomed to taking responsibility in life, Jerry found himself in a new pharmacy career, helping drug dealers benefit from drug diversion, working unpaid and even putting his medical licence in jeopardy.
Was Jerry’s desire to avoid conflict so strong or was he making excuses for an apathetic attitude – what do you think?
Has he now got the grit required to step up and be an entrepreneur?
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this one!

The Success Factor: Ruth Gotian – ExtraOrdinary People Ruth is a person who has studied success, written about success and achieved a great deal of success herself. This isn’t a lady who has some fluffy personal-development theories of her own, she is a Doctor who has studied the psychology of those who are the most successful at what they do.
She discovered that there are 4 key elements that unlock the secret of success.

Intrinsic motivation: You need to love it. You have to have a fire in your belly and be totally self motivated. You can do a passion audit (https://www.ruthgotian.com/passionaudit) to make sure your passion is where you need it to be. What would you do for free if you could?
Perseverance: Outplay everyone else. Look at challenges differently: How do I overcome it (instead of why is it there?
Reenforce a strong foundation. Do stop when you get successful.
Continuous learning. Remain open to new knowledge. Consume as much as you can from multiple medias and experiences, with many different mentors. Give yourself options in how you consume the things you want to learn or master.

Some key things to help you succeed at whatever you are aiming for:
Know when your most productive time is – are you better in the morning or in the afternoon?
Be flexible
Give it time
Whenever your ready to give up, give it a little longer
Reward each small achievement
Give yourself a time buffer
Work until its done
Work in sprints – 25 min of focus, 5 min break, then take a longer break after 3 rounds.
Can you simplify and get rid of the fluff?
Keep an open mind to learning
And once again, get a mentor!

Abandoned & Adopted with Stuart Falconer – ExtraOrdinary People Stuart Falconer is an entrepreneur, father, qualified counsellor, fundraiser, charity founder and HR expert.
As a baby Stuart was given up for adoption and grew up as an only child to a disabled parent. This formed his early attachment style and created an unidentified anxiety which he has recently begun to learn more about.
Until recently, Stuart was unaware of the impact his childhood has had on his life and relationships.
In 2015, Stuart’s youngest son, Morgan, died by suicide. This event became a catalyst to Stuart’s fundraising work and alongside other bereaved parents, be set up the OLLIE foundation (one life lost is enough).
In this podcast you will hear about Stuart’s journey of self discovery – how much he has learned about himself so far and the work he still has to do to find peace within himself.

My Childhood Abuse with Ashlee Braxton – ExtraOrdinary People
Ashlee Braxton was born into a family of fame and fortune as the niece of Toni Braxton, singer of hit 1990’s songs such as unbreak my heart.
However, the circumstances in which she grew up are far from the all-American dream.
Abandoned by her mother at a young age, Ashlee was excited to gain a step Mom to provide that female role modelling in the home. However, the family home soon became a place of childhood abuse and volatility. As soon as she could escape, she did.
What followed was a long and lonely journey of discovery. It lead to a sense of strength and purpose that she brings into her daily life and you’re going to share the benefits of that with her by listening to this podcast.

Secondary gain is often unconscious and the patient is unaware that they are capitalising on the benefits of having a problem. If it is a benefit that the patient is aware of (and deliberately fabricating or creating in order to benefit) this is known as malingering.
Secondary gain is very difficult (especially for those using NLP) to identify but if you have some strong suspicions here are some strategies to help deal with it.
