Episode 37 - Living with Your Inner Critic The the Fallen Elves are back, on the day after Christmas because, we're that committed to talking about ourselves. In this episode we dive into world of our inner critic and examine where it comes from, the pros and cons and how to living with the annoying bastard. And more importantly - we close the chapter on our Manscaper experience.
Episode 36 - Escape from Russia on Foot Something different for this episode!   I got the best Christmas present for my mom.   In the 80’s we spent 3 years living behind the iron curtain in communist Romania.   We were diplomats so our life was easy and blessed.   That experience was one of the most transformative of my life. It still informs my view of the world in a significant way. To see human suffering at that scale was unbelievable as people were basically locked in a prison the size of a country witnessing the cult of personality the state created around the dictator was akin to North Korea, although not quite as extreme To see how sclerotic the regime truly was was fascinating. The only thing that kept it in power was the idea that it was inevitable. Once people stopped believing that and starting rising up it all collapsed in weeks We were also there when Chernobyl exploded and saw how the state deliberately mislead its people about the dangers. Since that time my mom has helped people from that region in so many completely selfless ways. She’s a saint.   Back in 1985 there was an edition of the Readers Digest with a big special feature called Escape from Russia on Foot.   It’s an absolutely remarkable story.   We had a tattered copy around our house when I was in high school for years.   One last point - my mom is nearly blind and has been her entire life.   So..: After lots of digging I found a copy of that edition in good condition.   On Christmas Eve, we’re going to sit around a fire outside and I’m going to read the story to her.   I’m also going to record myself reading it so she can re-listen to it whenever she wants. And, I thought since I'm recording it, why not publish it as a podcast episode?   She is going to LOVE this so much! And she’ll be totally surprised.
Episode 35 - The Difference in How We Talk to Our Wives and Our Friends The three tortured, angsty hipsters return to delve deep on an interesting question posed by Scotty: What we talk to our wives about versus what we talk to our friends about. Man, what emerged was a raw, honest and real conversation. And I think I'll leave it at that for now... If you enjoy the podcast, give us a rating and review and subscribe!!
Episode 34 - A Man Transitioning The three lumps of coal are back for a typical mendacious, frivolous and sophmoric weekend salon. Jay gives a product overview of his new Oura Ring AND a book review of The Art of Gathering Jon recaps his trip with the boys The lads talk through a big change Jay will be making soon. There was probably some other stuff in there and I can't remember what it was.
Episode 33 - SOLO! - Help is On the Way Today it is just Scott, as the others lamed out (he explains why in the episode).  Yes, just his smooth baritone voice without all the normal inane interruptions.  Today instead of tackling the topic of “consistency,” as was the original plan, Scott gets into “help.”  We all get and give help.  But Scott, from his great experience receiving help over the last few years, has boiled Good Help down to a few important elements.  Hopefully you enjoy this enlightening monologue and return again next week for another episode from the full crew.
Episode 31 - Scramble Porn We try to figure out how to talk to our kids about $$!
Episode 30 - Setting Boundaries Strap in because the three spanish flies are back and setting off an explosion of "wisdom" - we talk about Andy Storch's new book and how he's gone all in on creating his dreams - we also chat about how and why writing a book is such a great way to learn about a subject you care about - we go deep on how to think and set boundaries and we try to prevent Scott from cutting people out of his life for being 3 minutes late
Episode 29 - How to Live & Let Live The three mimes are back for an interesting, albeit quiet episode. Scott talks about all the ways his body is falling apart since turning 50 a few weeks ago Uncover a mystery as old as time itself - why the hell do people walk with ski poles? We talk 'bout lurnin' and how wee git smrt. And lastly we talk about judging the fuck out of people and how to live and let live.   BTW - if you're a dad looking for a band of brothers that will support you, push you, teach you and learn from you then: Live Legendary with the Dad Edge Alliance
